The Nineteenth Day: 10 April 2020

The Nineteenth Day: 10 April 2020 (73,758 confirmed infected, 8,958 died, in total)

"I think it is really critical this weekend that we keep obeying those instructions." – Stephen Powis

Today is Good Friday, the first day of the Easter holidays. The government has been persuading people not to go out since many days. What we see is that most people in London are generally obedient, unlike those being reported in other areas of the UK. Maybe that is because London has the most severe situation of the virus across the country?

Another reason might be: police enforcement had been increasing in these couples of days. We saw police dispersing people who were strolling around the fountain or sitting on the benches just outside our gated community. Those people then left and did not come back. Well, I wouldn’t say they were flouting the lock-down rules then.

We did not go out today. Luckily, we had bought Easter Eggs for Dan before the lock-down started, and we still had a quite abundant storage of food.

Physical provisions are in place, then the mental enjoyment. Sonne and I have been playing an MMORPG online game since 2005 – indeed a quite vintage game – called “Uncharted Waters Online”. It is set in the Age of Discovery, where players sail their ships to travel among the seven seas to adventure, trade and battle. We formally introduced it to our son Dan during this time of lock-down. Not just because it can help the boy to kill his extra time (Children are first to become unbearable towards the stay-at-home instruction. A movie clip on YouTube shows a boy crying to his parents “let me go out”, “let me play with the virus!”), but that it is a real good simulator and teaching aid in history and geography, as well as the English language itself. We spent hours roaming in the game world, where the Medieval Black Death has ended so no pandemic is ever existing.
