Valentine's Day

While the rest of the city was celebrating 'Valentine's Day' I was still lying on my bed. Suddenly, my cell phone started ringing. "Heh-loh", I answered, in a real sleepy tone. On the other side of the phone was Arish and she said, 'Hey Arohi'! Be at my place by sharp 12:30 and I beg you don't be late like always. Just get up or you'll be late and she hung up. I looked up at the wall clock to check the time. It was 9:00 am, too early. I crawled back again into my bed to sleep a little more.

Later, my elder sister Samaira poured a glass of cold water on me. I was immediately awakened. "Are you freaking crazy?", I screamed. "I am not," she said angrily," but your pals are. I don't know why they keep forgiving you for not being punctual. Who'll believe that you are a teacher? Do you teach your students in not being punctual? Do you teach them to never be on time? God knows when you'll realize the value of being punctual in life". Once my sister starts ranting, it needs a physical remote control to stop her.

"Are you done with your lectures?," I replied aggressively. It's me who has to give it to my students where as you better stick to dealing with your 'patients' patiently. Now will you let me know what the matter is?!"

"The matter, Arohi, is," she said in a very serious tone, "that you are DAMN late". Arish has been calling but you are lost in your dream world and it's already 11:00 am and you have to go all the way to Andheri". I already warned you about her ranting abilities. I was already late so I didn't have the time or patience to fight with her. I just ended the little fight, saying, "See you later". I need to rush now." She bantered, "Ya sure"! I'll be waiting for you right here. Your breakfast is ready on the table. Wasting no more precious minutes, I went to take a quick shower. Hurriedly, I got ready and left home.

Finally, I reached the station to catch the train. I desperately kept praying for the train to be on time but of course it was 10 minutes late. I realized, when you're late the whole world conspires you to be DAMN late. At last, I got the CST train which meant I had to change at Wadala to get Andheri's train. I got in and check my WhatsApp for messages and there were plenty of messages in our group 'Zindagi jhandwa fir bhi ghamandwa'. I didn't answer any of the messages. Meanwhile, I got a call from Cheryl but I rejected it because I can't lie in front of so many people. So I WhatsApped her, "I've reached Chembur". Actually I was still at Nerul. ( I'm sorry God for lying, please forgive me for it cause. If I won't lie they'll be furious at me).

I got down at Wadala, changed track to get Andheri train. After waiting 5 more minutes, I got on train. I was like, "Oh God, how much more time?" After I got down at Andheri I took an auto but I realized it's a sharing auto. I then called Arish to get the exact address of her house. As she gave me the exact location of her house, my phone battery died. I tried to switch it back on, but it was useless. I was L-O-S-T! I didn't know what to do. I searched for P.C.O's, asked people but to no avail. Then someone asked me, "Do you remember your friend's number?" I replied, "Yes!" He said, "There's a P.C.O over there." I dialled her number and told her where I was. She told me to wait there and she would come and get me. As I waited for her I noticed an auto driver following me. He turned his back the moment I noticed him. I started praying hard, "God please save me!" Just then someone tapped my back. I was like, "OMG!", How could he touch me?". I turned to face him and found Arish with Shanaya. They started scolding me, "Where were you?". It's 2:00 pm do you realize? Late all the time and just throw your 'dabba' cellphone, useless!" I remained silent. I knew its my mistake obviously.

At last, we reached her home. She sensed that I was tired and hungry, so she served lunch straight away. She had cooked pulav, fried chicken, cheese kabab and chutney to go with that. I unfortunately couldn't eat too much properly because of a toothache.

Once we were done with lunch, the four of us, Cheryl, Arish, Shanaya and I went to relax in Arish's bedroom. We were relaxing with the usual fun pastimes- selfies, pulling each other's leg.. Then I said, "Guys, I have an announcement for you all." They, weird expressions on their face asked, "What?" I slowly said, "A guy is going to come to see me on probably Sunday." They were like, "WOW! Longob Who is he? What is he? How is he? What does he do?" And the most funny question asked by Shanaya, "Is he HOT?" My face turns pale yellow with their response. I said, I only said, "Dad's friend's son. A cardiologist in Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi. And, I didn't see him yet. You know I'm not at all interested in getting married. It really makes me scared thinking, 'What if he'll not be decent of nature? Will he demand dowry? Is he just doing this as a formality? Does love someone else?' I mean, I can't trust anyone!"

"Hello! Will you stop thinking shit? Why can't you think positive?", they said.

"I can't, he's a CARDIOLOGIST! Much, much better than me in every way.", was all I could think of saying.

Shanaya uttered, "First of all, stop watching CRIME shows. It's ruining your thinking sense. Secondly, what if he's a CARDIOLOGIST? You too are a teacher, successful in your own way. And, lastly, you don't even know him yet. How can you say he's better than you in every way?"

I defended, "But still, I don't know anyone else who's getting married then why me?"

This time Cheryl said, "It doesn't matter who is getting married or who is not. What matters is you are. Your family just wants you to meet him and who knows, what if he's the ONE for you? Your 'Mr. Right'? Believe us and your family & GOD that everything will be good & in your favor too. It's just only about meeting him. We are here for you. I nodded my head in approval.

We left Arish's home and Shanaya and Cheryl and I were together till Wadala in the Panvel train. After that they got down to catch the CST train bidding me good bye.

I was just about to reach home and my cellphone, (I charged it at Arish's home) blinked up with a new message on WhatsApp. It was Anas khan my old friend, telling me, "I told you, your 'Arvind Kejriwal' will not stay even for a month." I didn't believe him until I reached home, and found that Dad and my brothers were already watching the news and it was written in bold letters, clearly visible to us on the big 42 inches LED television screen, 'ARVIND KEJRIWAL RESIGNS FROM HIS POST AS C.M'.
