CHAPTER 05

Erica came out of the bathroom and walked into the closet. A towel was wrapped around her small figure. Huffing and puffing, she came to the couch and hopped on it. Alexander looked at her and mentally awed. She looked cuter in anger. "Now what?" He asked.

She turned to look at him, a cute pout on her face. "I'm not wearing those. They are so uncomfortable, I can't even walk easily." She complained.

He chuckled and she huffed again. "Fine, I'll take you shopping but you can't go shopping in this towel. Go and change." He said and she looked at him.

Her dimpled smile was back as she stood up and quickly went back to the closet. She chose a long skirt with a crop top. She came out of the closet and sat beside Alexander. He was checking all the papers and was surprised that she did it without any mistakes. He arranged the papers in a file and stood up. He offered her his hand, she took it and he pulled her out of the room.

They went to the kitchen together and he called a maid to make them breakfast. "Mary, make us some pancakes, will you?" Alexander said.

"Of course young master." Maid replied.

Alexander then pulled her out of the kitchen and took her to the dining hall. She sat with him. "I hope you were done with the work you were given before you went out last night?" Mrs Smith said while entering the dining hall.

Alexander didn't say anything but handed her the file. Mrs Smith went through every single page but she couldn't find any mistake to create an issue, like she always does.

"Ha! Take that as your advance Christmas gift Mrs Smith." He thought.

"Hmm, I better get going then. I'll see you later." Mrs Smith said and left them both.

He went back to his seat and leaned close to her. "Looks like she actually believed you last night." He whispered in her ear.

She smiled and nodded her head. Mary came with breakfast, she served them and went back to the kitchen. She looked at him and then back to her plate.

"What are you waiting for? Eat baby girl." He said and she took the first bite.

"How is it?" He asked.

"They are so good." She replied. They both ate in peace.

After breakfast, Alexander took her shopping. He bought so many casual clothes, dresses, shoes, bags, accessories and many more things for her. She tried to refuse but he didn't let her. They went to the food court for lunch and he ordered for them both. "So how was your day? Did you enjoy shopping?" He asked.

"Yes." She replied.

"Can I ask you a question if you don't mind?" She added after a few minutes.

"Go ahead baby girl." He allowed her.

"Why are you Alexander Walker and your mother is Mrs Smith?" She asked.

His smile faded away and he sighed. "That's because she got married after my father's death." He told her.

"Oh, that's horrible. Didn't your father love her?" She asked.

"She was his life." He replied in a sad tone.

"I'm so sorry Alex, I shouldn't have asked you about her. She is so horrible." She said.

"Why do you think she's horrible?" He asked her.

"She was loved but still she left you alone. She is horrible." She replied.

He smiled at her statement. "She isn't a good woman. I want you to stay away from her. If she asks any favors, do not listen to her and tell me what she wants you to do. I'm telling you all that because you are innocent and she can use you for her benefits. She is the most greedy, selfish and evil person I have ever seen in my life and I don't want you to be near her. Also, all the servants and maids work for her. I want you to be careful. I saved you that night for a reason. Do you understand baby girl?" He explained everything to her and waited for her to reply.

"Yes." She didn't ask him anything, just answered him with a smile.

"Good." He replied. Their lunch arrived and they ate it together.

They sat in the car and Erica frowned her brows. "Why haven't you bought anything for yourself and so many things for me?" She asked.

"Because you need all these things baby girl. Don't worry much about me, okay? He replied.

"But that's not fair." She reasoned.

"Baby girl, I can buy this whole mall for you and no one will ask me. But to buy a candy bar for myself, I need my mother's permission." He said.

"Why?" she asked again.

"You'll know everything soon. Just keep your distance from her and don't do anything she'll ask you to do. You are safe with me. You don't have to worry or get scared from her lame threats. She can't do anything to you. Okay." He said and she nodded her head.

"Now let's go back home. I have my University tomorrow and I still need to complete some homework." He said. He started the engine and they drove off.

They came back home in the evening. He took her to an ice cream parlor, then they went to a park. They walked in the park for a while then they headed back home. Hand in hand, they stepped into the house. "Enjoying your time together I see." He heard his mother's voice and froze in his tracks.

"Take this all to our room Erica." He ordered her in a serious tone.

She took all the bags and ran towards their room. Alexander turned back to his mother. "That should not concern you mother as I have accepted her as my partner." Alexander said.

"Really son, you have already forgotten about your mother. In 2 days, you're standing in front of me, defending her." Mrs Smith said dramatically.

"I'm sorry mother but last I checked, you're not Mrs Walker anymore, you are Mrs Smith now. And about me defending her or having a good time with her. She's my fiance and it's in my blood to keep my partner happy, if you can remember." Alexander said sarcastically.

"You're right son, I don't care whether you live or die. But I thought it's better to remind you not to get attached with her so much. As I can remember, they all end up dead or running far away from you." Mrs Smith said.

"Don't worry so much about me. Your husband must be missing you. Why don't you go back to him and enjoy your life and let us live ours peacefully?" Alexander asked.

"Your mouth is getting bigger day by day. Keep it under control." Mrs Smith warned her son.

"You better stay away from her or I will make sure that you won't be able to live your so-called happily ever after with Mr Smith." Alexander said and went to his room leaving Mrs Smith in shock.

"Bravo son. Sometimes I wish you would be a fool just like your father. Whatever I said, he believed. He didn't even think once for his son. But I don't know why God had given you such a smart brain. I will make sure your little soon to be Mrs Walker will run away soon." Mrs Smith thought.
