CHAPTER 08

Next day, Alexander opened his eyes before the sunrise. He looked at Erica who was sleeping peacefully, just like a baby. He smiled when he remembered the Oath she took for him. "I, Erica A. Roberts, swear to God and on my life. That I will never leave you, Alexander Walker alone and will always keep you happy forever." He remembered each and every word.

"Erica A. Roberts. That's not possible." He thought to himself. He took his phone from the bedside table and dialled Mr Wilson. Mr Wilson picked up after three bells.

"Hello." Mr Wilson replied in a low gruffy voice.

"Mr Wilson, can I ask you a question?" Alexander quickly asked.

"It's 6 in the morning Mr Walker. Can't you ask me this question of yours a few hours later?" Mr Wilson replied in a sleepy voice.

"No, it's important." Alexander replied.

"Okay fine. I know you will not let me sleep if I ain't answer your question. Ask please." Mr Wilson replied in an annoyed tone.

"Do you remember Mr Andrew Roberts?" Alexander asked.

"Yes, he and his father were the most loyal and faithful workers of your father's company. Mr Andrew Roberts stayed loyal to your father even after his death. Too bad that your mother fired him and made him suffer for his loyalty to the company and his job." Mr Wilson replied.

"Do you know where he is or what he would be doing?" Alexander asked.

"I am afraid I know nothing about him. After your mother fired him, he went away. He left this city because your mother had defamed him and no one was hiring him. At last, he gave up and left with his family." Mr Wilson replied.

"Do you know how many kids he had?" Alexander asked.

"As far as I know, he has two kids. A girl and a boy. I'm not sure who was older. Now answer my question, will you? What did remind you of Mr Roberts?" Mr Wilson asked.

"Nothing big, do you know what was the name of her daughter?" Alexander asked.

"I don't remember. Let me ask one of the people who knew Mr Roberts personally. I'll text you after that." Mr Wilson replied.

"Okay, thank you." Alexander replied and hung up. He crawled out of the bed and went to the bathroom. He took a quick shower then changed into his gym suit and stepped out of the bathroom. He looked at Erica one last time and stepped out of the bedroom. He hopped into his car and drove to the nearest park. He parked the car and started jogging. He jogged for 30 minutes when his mobile pinged with a text message.

He fished it out of his pocket. "His daughter's name is Erica." It was Mr Wilson's text. Alexander's anger rose as he read the name again and again. He hopped into her car and drove back home.

Alexander stepped into the room and found Erica drying her hair. She was freshly showered and fully dressed. "Why are you up so early?" Alexander asked.

"I wake up this early, everyday. I am habitual of getting up early." She replied and shrugged her shoulders.

"I know but you had fever last night, you better rest." Alexander said.

"I'm fine now and it's not like I woke up at 6." Erica reasoned. Alexander touched her forehead to check her fever. She was right, her temperature was normal. He sighed in relief and smiled.

"You sit here, I'll take a quick shower. Then we both will have our breakfast together." He informed her and she nodded her head. He went to the bathroom and she sat on one of the couches. She turned on the TV and started watching a show. In twenty minutes, Alexander stepped out of the bathroom with a wrapped towel around his waist. He went into the closet and wore his casual jeans and t-shirt. He stepped out of the closet and wore his shoes.

"Let's go and eat. You must be hungry." Alexander said and offered Erica his hand. She took it and stood up. Hand in hand, they both made their way to the kitchen. Alexander dismissed all the maids and turned to face Erica.

"So what would you like to eat today Miss Erica? And you have to tell me something or I will be angry at you." Alexander asked her.

"Wait, are you cooking today?" Erica asked with wide eyes and a shocked expression.

"Yes, I am multi talented. Now tell me what would you like to eat?" He asked again.

"I will have egg rolls with cheese and strawberry milkshake." Erica replied in an exciting tone.

"Alright, one egg roll for you with a glass of milkshake. And you have to finish it." Alexander replied and she nodded her head. Erica sat on the kitchen counter and Alexander busied himself in preparing breakfast for both her and himself.

"Who taught you cooking?" Erica asked.

"I used to cook with my grandparents when they were alive." Alexander replied in a sad tone.

"I'm so sorry, Alex. I didn't mean to ruin your mood." Erica replied with her hand on his shoulder.

"It's okay baby girl. I can handle this. Besides, we can't change it. They are gone." Alexander replied.

"Do you miss them?" Erica asked softly.

"Yes, I miss them so much." Alexander replied.

"And your father. Do you miss him?" Erica asked again.

"No, I don't miss my father. He was a wise man for the whole world but for me, he was a toy my mother had used to torture me." Alexander replied and chuckled darkly. Erica shivered hearing his dark chuckle and he noticed that.

"My parents are not really a nice topic to discuss, baby girl. Don't be afraid, I have learned to keep that darkness locked." Alexander replied and dished out the breakfast into two plates.

"Come on, let's eat." Alexander said as he stepped out of the kitchen. He went to the dining hall and Erica followed him behind. He sat the tray of food on the table then made her sit on her chair. He served her breakfast and she took a bite. She moaned as the flavors of spices and cheese burst in her mouth. She looked at him with a wide smile on her face.

" How is it?" Alexander asked.

"It's perfect. I have never tasted anything this good in my life." Erica chirped in excitement. Alexander chuckled softly seeing her shining eyes and wide smile.

"Thank you so much, baby girl." He replied and started eating his breakfast. They both ate in peace.

After breakfast, Alexander took the dishes to the kitchen. He told Erica that he had an assignment to complete. He went back to the bathroom and she went to the garden. She watered all the plants and also cleaned up the garden. Once done, she also went back to the bedroom. Alexander looked at her and started laughing hysterically. She was covered in dirt and mud. She pouted cutely and went to the bathroom. He kept laughing for a few minutes. She sighed and peeled off her clothes. She took a hot shower then wrapped a towel around her small figure. She was about to step out when she remembered, Alexander was sitting on the couch which was right in front of the closet door. She chewed her nails in nervousness. She knew if he saw her in that towel he would do something. She took a deep breath and stepped out of the bathroom.
