Chapter Three - Mystery.

The next few days of driving Caleb Stonehouse plays out identically to the first day we met. I pick him up and we exchange a brief hello before driving all the way downtown and dropping him off in front of the coffee shop. I don't question why Caleb doesn't want me to take him directly to work because a) he could really need a coffee every day or b) he doesn't want me to know where he works. Both options are totally fine with me but the mystery behind him only grows by each car ride journey.

On Friday, things go slightly differently.

As usual, Caleb steps into my car smelling absolutely delicious, dressed in an all black suit that appears to be moulded for his exact body shape. Instead of sitting in silence the entire ride downtown, Caleb speaks to me —

"I have your money here."

I turn to glance at him, noticing he's clutching an envelope in his hand.

"Thanks, I appreciate it." I tell him, slightly surprised that he chose to speak to me from his own will. I kind of got the vibe that Caleb Stonehouse doesn't enjoy my presence much hence why he chooses to remain silent.

"Denny's. You work at Denny's?" He points at my work uniform and I nod, feeling slightly embarrassed to admit to it.

"Yeah, I'm a waitress there." I reply, shifting uncomfortably in my seat. Caleb nods before reaching up and running his fingers through his hair. His arm tenses, biceps flexing under the material of his suit jacket. I tear my eyes away and focus on the road ahead.

"I like the food at Denny's. It's good."

"You've been to Denny's?" I ask him, one eyebrow raised in surprise. Someone like Caleb Stonehouse doesn't seem like the type of customer you'd find at Denny's. He nods his head again —

"I went there all the time as a kid. I love the chicken sandwiches."

"The ones that are drenched with mayo? Those sandwiches are a heart failure waiting to happen." I smile. Surprisingly, Caleb laughs and I pause and turn to look at him. The blue in his eyes shine and the smile on his face makes him insanely more handsome than I originally thought. For a moment, I'm transfixed before I laugh with him.

"Yeah you're probably right. Man, I was hooked on those sandwiches." Caleb smiles, showcasing a dimple in his right cheek. It makes him appear more youthful and not so scary. I decide that I like to see Caleb Stonehouse smile. . . It's not a bad sight.

"So you grew up in Virginia?" I ask him. He nods his head, shoulders automatically becoming guarded. For a second, he doesn't respond and instead turns to look out the window.

"Yeah, I left when I was sixteen."

"Any particular reason why?"

"Sort of but that's a topic for another day." He says gently, almost sounding apologetic. I nod my head slowly and don't push the topic any further. If Caleb doesn't want to talk about it, who am I to persist through the conversation?

"Radio?" I ask him, signalling at the button. He nods, blue eyes softening and I smile back at him in response before switching it on. Music fills the silence in the car and for the first time this week, it doesn't feel like an awkward silence but rather a comfortable one.

"See you on Monday morning." I tell him, waving goodbye as I drop him off outside the usual coffee shop. Just like every other day, he takes his briefcase and steps outside with a simple bye. I watch him go, wondering what the story is behind Mr Caleb Stonehouse. His mysterious and closed off aura has me interested in him more than ever. When I realise what I'm doing, I shake my head and drive off.

"Stop it Mia. It's a business arrangement, that's it." I mutter under my breath.
