Chapter Five

I love watching mystery documentaries but I never tried solving one, ever. I know I am inexperienced when it comes to solving crimes and all that but maybe I can ask for help. I do have a friend who is a policeman who I am sure will be more than willing to help me. As for Lucas, I need to uplift his mood so he will be energized to help me. After all, he is still not a ghost but I am sure he can help me with some things.

After I comfort his mom, I decide to look for Lucas. He needs to hear my plan though I am sure he will not agree to it.

“Are you sure this is a good idea?” he asks as we both look at his apartment that is now filled with policemen. I nod and turn to him, “I can ask Eric for help.” His face brightened up a bit, “Oh, right! Eric is a policeman” I start walking inside when some policemen stopped me. “Miss, sorry, you are not allowed to enter.

I raise my eyebrow, “But I am Lucas’ best friend, basically his family” One tries to put his hand on my shoulder when Lucas pushed something, causing a loud noise in the area. The men almost jumped from shock while I smile and walk inside.

“Quinn?” I turn to see the one who called me and saw Eric. “How are you? I haven’t seen you in a long time!” He is about to kiss my cheek when Lucas pulls me away, almost making Eric trip. I glare at Lucas who innocently looks at me. “What?” he says and tries to look around.

“Whoa there” Eric says and laughs. “I’m sorry. I was so busy with work lately” I reply to his earlier question. “I noticed. I’m sorry for what happened to Lucas. I know that you lov---“ I immediately cup his mouth, earning a turn from Lucas who is pretending to be doing something else.

My heart is beating so fast. I cannot let Lucas know the truth about my feelings. He might come back to life soon, and I do not want to be awkward around him. I would rather just die and keep this secret with me. No jokes.

Eric laughs, “As if he can hear you! You know what, you should have grabbed the opportunity when he was already asking you out” I facepalm. This is why you do not ever tell your friends your deepest darkest secrets. I did not bother to look at Lucas. He probably knows the truth by now.

“First of all, he did not ask me out. He just needed someone during that time. Second, I am here to know what happened. I want to find out who did this to Lu.” I answer and look at my friend with a pleading expression. He sighs, “The thing is, we think someone entered his house and attacked him.

My eyes widen, I immediately look around to find Lucas but he looks like he was not surprised. “I already went inside, Quinn.” He answers as if he knows what I am going to ask. I slowly walk inside his apartment, afraid of what I can see. Each step feels heavier than the first one and my heart was torn after I saw the mess in his place.

His clothes and things are everywhere. There is blood in the middle of the room, which I assume is where his body was found. Lucas is not a clean freak but he knows how to organize his things. Looking at his room right now, it looked like someone was searching for something in his room. I do not know what to imagine but the person who did this hated Lucas or was after something.

I walk to the middle of the apartment just in front of the blood. “His mom was the one who saw him. She said that his body was covered with blood. Good thing she immediately called 911 or he could be dead by now.” Eric explains the data that they have.

“Who could possibly hurt him?” I ask. Lucas is one of the kindest people I know. He likes to help people and is friends with almost everyone in the neighborhood. I cannot think of anyone who can do this to me. “Well, his mom told me he was about to meet you. This is why she decided to visit him early” he adds.

I nod as I continue to scan the surroundings. “I was waiting for him in the shop but he didn’t come.” Eric sighs. “Are you here because you want to help?” I turn to him and nod. “I want to find who did this. You know I will not just let this go”

Eric smiles. Eric and I became friends when we were in college. Though we were not in the same course, we matched since we were in the same club. He found out that I like Lucas after he confessed that he thinks Lucas is cute. Yes, that is right. Eric is gay and he is very proud of it. In fact, he already has a boyfriend and they have been together for years now.

Eric holds my hand as a way to comfort me. “Let me help you. Do not do anything reckless, Quinn. I do not want you to get hurt.” I nod but we both know that I will not just sit around and wait for nothing. “Go home. You need to rest.” He says. I take one last look at the place and tries to find Lucas but he is gone.

“Lu?” I call his name with a low tone, hoping he can hear me. I continue looking around the apartment. But there is no sign of Lucas. I run outside the apartment trying to look for him but he is not around. Since he is a soul, there is no way I can contact him.

I am about to look again in the apartment when my phone rings. I quickly get it in my pocket, hoping that for some miracle it will be Lucas. “Hi, Miss Quinn? I’m Lily. You said you were going to remove the ghost in our place?” I sigh. “Yeah, be right there.

I take one last look at Lucas’ apartment. Maybe he needs time to think or something. There is nothing I can do after all so I called a cab.

Throughout the ride, all I can think about is where Lucas can be. I never looked for a ghost or soul before so I do not know where they would go. I sigh, maybe the scene was too much for him so he decided to leave. But he will come back, right?
