Chapter Six

I sigh once again upon looking at my current location. Ever since I was young, I hated hospitals. People think that ghosts stay in the cemetery but no. If you want to get a special encounter with ghosts, all you need to do is go to the nearest hospital.

It has been said that hospitals are where the souls first leave their body. Some stay there forever, while there are those who can leave. Basing my current location, I can say that I am dealing with a ghost who failed to leave the hospital.

“Are you Miss Quinn?” a woman in her late 20s appear in front of me. I nod, “You’re Lily?” she looks younger than me but we both know she is older. “We need your help” she says and shows me a photo. “She is Daisy, my sister. Someone told me that she has been lingering here and trying to escape but she can’t.” I raise an eyebrow. This is my first time hearing a ghost who wants to leave but cannot.

According to Lily, Daisy died three years ago because of cancer. It was a tough journey but it looked like Daisy failed to rest in peace. I enter the room where she died.

Surprisingly, the room does not feel anything or it does not even have signs of any ghost. I continue looking at the things inside the room until I hear a sound like a door is being locked. I run to the door and tried opening it but I failed. “Hello? Anybody there?” I call and bang the door.

I cannot understand what is happening. It could be a ghost but I am sure I did not meet anyone on my way up here. “Daisy? Is this you? I mean no harm. Your sister is the one who called me” I say in a calm tone as I am trying to hide my irritation. I waited for a couple of minutes but there is no response.

I get my phone from my pocket to see if I can call anyone. Unfortunately, there is no signal in the room. I look around the room again, hoping that there is something I can use to help me get out of here. “Hey”

I turn to follow the voice. “Hey! In here” I try to follow the voice again but I cannot find it. “It might be better if you just show yourself to me” I reply and sit by the couch near the bed. Then, I heard sounds coming from below the bed. Curious, I bent down to check if there is anything there.

My eyes widen when I saw someone tied. “Help me” I move away, “who are you? Why are you tied? Are you a vengeful ghost?” The ghost under the bed laughs, “I’m pretty sure that if I’m a vengeful ghost I won’t be hidden here. Vengeful ghosts are quite powerful, you know?

I pause, he has a point. I sigh, even if I do not want to help him, I have no choice. I move the bed until I can see his whole body. “Thank you” he says and sits. He is trying his best to remove the rope but he is too weak. I sigh again and unties his hands. “You need to help me get out of here.” I say without waiting for him to speak.

He nods, “yeah, we both do. Unfortunately, no one can leave this room.” I tilt my head in confusion, “what do you mean?

Then, other ghosts appear before us. Some came from the closet, while others from the drawers. In no time, there are already 20 ghosts in the room. I am speechless, I was tasked to send one ghost to heaven. Only one. Having 20 means I need to ask for extra pay. I need to consult Lily about this later.

“We are stuck here for years now.” The man who I saved from the bed answers. “Who did this to you?” I ask, half curious and half pretending like I care. “Lily” they all answered the same time.

I pause, I did not expect to get into another situation like I had before Lucas died. “She did this… to all of you?” I ask and they nod. “It was only me at first” I turn to the one who spoke, and everyone moved to let her walk to me. “I’m Lily’s sister, Daisy.

“Lily said that you died because of cancer.” I answer. “It is true that I had cancer. But I can be treated. Lily decided that it is better if I just stay in this room so that no bacteria can enter my body.” I raise an eyebrow. “What happened next?

Daisy looks down. “She literally left me here without food and water. I called her every day through that door but she never answered. Just like my body, my soul was stuck here too. After a few months, another person was hidden here. She had the same sickness as mine and was also left alone to die.” I am now confused and scared for my life. I’m guessing that no one was able to leave the room since there are already 20 of them here.

“You need to help us” Daisy says. The last time someone asked for my help, I almost died. Now, Lucas is not around, there is no signal, and my chance of survival is less than 10%. “How? We are all stuck here. I’m sure all of you tried different sorts of things to get out.” I answer. I wanted to stay positive, but seeing this situation, I guess I just have to accept the fact that I will join Lucas in the afterlife soon.

The ghosts look at each other as if there is something that never did before. I look around the room for the third time. The only exit is the locked door. There is nothing I can push to open the door, other than the chair. I immediately head to the bed. As if the ghosts can hear my thoughts, all of them moved away from my path.

I push the chair to the door with force. I pulled the chair again and pushed it back, hoping that the door will move or something. I need to think of something that these ghosts were not able to do. What I know right now is that Lily takes those who are already sick. But why me? Is she worried that there are already a lot of ghosts here? But why did she lock the door? So that after I sent them to the afterlife, I will die next?
