Chapter Four

Officer Jon Dorf, 33, wore a badge on his right breast of his grey colored shirt that read: Deputy Sheriff, Crystal Lake. His sunglasses gleamed; his face was lined from fifteen years on patrol; for two years he was arresting Crazy Ralph, who was annoying everyone with his religious rantings. Officer Dorf looked at the campers. His motorcycle was six years' old. 'Okay, who are you all? Are you campers working for Steve Christy?', he asked them.

'I'm Alice Hardy, the Assistant Camp Counsellor. Bill's my Second Assistant. Brenda, Jack, Marcie, and Ned, are volunteers. But they are paid for the summer season, like we are. What's the matter?'.

'Can we help, Officer?', Brenda asked him.

'I'm looking for Crazy Ralph, the town loony', Officer Dorf answered her.

Ned, who wore a Native American headdress, was acting silly...again.

'There's no one that's crazy here, Officer', Ned said.

'Can it, Tonto!'.

'I'm dumb as they come', Ned sighed.

'Is he dangerous, Officer?', Brenda asked him.

'Everytime Crazy Ralph drinks beer he gets the religious calling. And I have to haul his ass into a jail cell', Officer Dorf answered her.

'Hey, nice motorcycle!', Jack smiled.

'What drugs are you on, boy? Marijuana, hash, weed...', Officer Dorf said.

'Drugs are bad, Officer', Jack lied.

The radio squawked: 'Officer Dorf. Sheriff Tierney wants you back at the Police Station'.

'This is Officer Dorf. I'm at Camp Crystal Lake. Over'.

He added: 'Don't want to keep the Sheriff waiting. Keep your noses clean, If you don't, I'll come back. I won't tolerate any weirdness around Camp Crystal Lake...and here at the cabins...as well as the cold lake'. Officer Dorf rode away...as the campers laughed.

After lunch, the campers went about their own business.

Brenda hauled the archery set with her right hand to the target.

Suddenly an arrow swept past her...and hit it.

'Ta-Da! Do you love my trick shot?', Ned asked Brenda.

'I don't believe it! You could've killed me!', Brenda gasped, by way of an answer.

'You're pretty when you're scared, sweetheart', Ned said in his best Humphrey Bogart voice.

'I'm going to kill you', Brenda said.

Ned skipped away...and she sighed.

Alice was sweeping dust from cabin 4.

The snake was slithering under a bunk.

'Bill!', she yelled.

'Yes, what?', Bill asked his girlfriend.

'There's a snake', Alice answered him.

He grabbed a machete...and killed it.

And dragged it into the deep woods.

***

Alice shivered.

In the parlor, the grey door opened.

Crazy Ralph appeared.

'Who are you?', Alice asked him.

'I'm the Messenger of God. You're doomed if you stay here...Doomed! Camp Crystal Lake has a death curse! You're doomed!'. Ned, and Marcie, arrived with Jack.

'Get outta here, man', Ned said.

Crazy Ralph opened the door, and got ono his bicycle.

He turned around.

'You're all doomed!', he said.

And he rode away.

'I think we just met Crazy Ralph', Ned said.

'God, that's all we need to see', Alice sighed.

And she closed the cabin door.
