Devi's Pov:

I come home from school after walking my girlfriend home and by the atmosphere I can tell my father is in a bad mood. Which is bad news for me, because I'm the target of his anger, I greet both of my parents closing myself into my room.

My fathers a preacher and my mother is a daycare worker for the church. She teaches the younger kids everything about God and all that bullshit I'd never believe in, but I pretend to.

What everyone doesn't know is that my father isn't as nice and kind as he is taken in as. He's an abusive bastard and my mom is an oblivious bitch, even though she watches it happen to me.

As I unpack my school bag to get my homework, my father is banging on the door, cursing my name. The meaning behind my name is Devil, it's just short, that and they didn't want to make it too obvious to outsiders. I was conceived as a bastard child or conceived before marriage, and they blame me for their mistake.

My father slams the door open and I know what to expect next, he punches me in the face and I fall onto my bed, passed out. I can still hear what's going on though I'm partly unconscious, he's screaming bastard at me and the fact that I shouldn't have been born. I feel more hits laid onto my face and head. I think he might kill me, honestly, it'd be doing me a fucking favor, I wish he would.

When I wake up, my mom is running a warm cloth over my face and holding an ice pack to the goose egg on my head. Father must be gone... The only time she does this is if he went out with some of his guys' friends, and it's obvious he's cheating on her.

"W-why was he so pissed off today?", I asked looking up at her. Shocked by my choice of words she ignores it simply responding with, "He wasn't making any sense as to why he was angry... I think he's doing drugs again..."

Behind Will:

Third Person POV:

Will had a family and parents in the beginning, but as he became older around the age of 6 or 7 he was put out of the house. Or put up for adoption, but he ran away and he hid from anyone looking for him. He eventually went by Will instead of Lee, that was also his father's name. As time went on he found a job, at the young age of 14 by lying about his age and getting an ID saying he was also. He had no idea where he was going with his life but he wanted to be happy. Will was always a quiet kid, especially since he left, he wasn't used to talking to anyone so most of the time he wouldn't say much or anything.

One day, on his way to work he took the back way coming across some random people that looked very suspicious, as he approached they walked behind him as he passed. He instantly knew he was in for some shit, he looked back because he heard their footsteps, they're definitely following. As he tries running away, they jump him, beating him until he passes out. Why? He doesn't deserve this. He hasn't hurt anyone.

So, he lost his job because he didn't come in that day and his boss wouldn't listen to what he had to say, at this time he was 16. His boss was definitely an asshole, would never listen to him an wasn't empathetic at all. He could get a fuck less why people didn't come in, he wanted them on time to work.

Sometime later he found another job at a factory and it was so much better than working at a buffet. This is where he met Devi, they were friends almost instantly and they worked great together. He continued working for two years and sleeping on the street every night to afford an apartment. Slowly over time, he could afford to buy actual groceries and clothes for himself. He's never had this much and he was very thankful for it.

He never forgets where he came from, and who he is. One night he felt like going out to see Devi and meet up at McDonald's. Will tells Devi everything, and Devi is saddened but just says that he knows how it feels to be abandoned and left to die. Because deep down he did but he wasn't ready to explain that to Will, he will soon though, it's not like he doesn't trust him, he just doesn't wanna talk about he's abusive dad in public.
