CHAPTER FIVE

When they arrived at the port where the ship is, Andrea, was awed by the beauty in front of her. There she is standing tall and proud "The Hawk's eye!" Andrea's eyes went wide while her mouth was gaping open admiring the big animal in front of her. She knew that she'll work as one if the seaman from now on, but she didn't expect that it'll be a pirate ship. "If Andrew was here, for sure he'll be excited too!" Andrea can't help but to remember her twin brother.

"You still have a chance to back out!" Andrea's mind is a bit in disarray, knowing the stories about pirates. "They are brutal and doesn't have principles!" She remembered Mr. Arevalo says.

She looked at the Guy in front of her, who she doesn't really know. What if, what if, he'll realize her gender and kill her in the middle of the sea? "No,no, I have to go, this is the only option I can choose if I really want to escape and hide from those leeches!" Andrea thought. To make her decision solid she stopped overthinking, instead she continuously admire the big animal, in front of her, pretending that she's not afraid.

While Andrea is thinking Xander didn't say anything, he just observe the little boy who's openly admiring the beauty of his ship with mixed emotions. He knows that the little boy is having inner discussions with his own mind. He can't help but smile at him, it's given that after seeing and knowing that he's a pirate and not just a simple privateer he'll having a doubt of joining. But to his surprise, the boy's expressions suddenly become calm, whatever he was thinking before is now resolved and he knows that, the little cub will stay.

He can't understand his feelings for this little boy, since last night he seems to feel attached to him and as if an instinct tells him that he needs to protect this little lamb.

When Xander knows that, the little boy already made up his mind he urged him to follow him and climbed up. Maybe he just reminded him when he was younger and also his first stepping on a pirate ship. It’s not time to tell his story yet it takes time before he will tell his part.

Upon their arrival at the ship, his right hand man Paul, greeted them with a warm smile, while his eyes wandered to the little boy who's like a lost puppy standing next to Xander.

“Lad, introduce your name to this grumpy man,” Xander nudge the little boy who suddenly feel embarrassed in front of two gentlemen.

Paul shake his head before ask the little boy,

"D-Drew!" Andrea says in a low voice while stammering.

"Paul, why you want to work as a seaman?" Paul asked her suddenly, but she's afraid to answer.

"Let him settle first, just ask him once he's okay." Xander intervenes, and she's thankful for that

Paul just nod and ask her to follow where he's going to sleep and stay.

When he knows that he's settled already, he just dumped her on the deck again and leave. He even forget her existence for a little while. Andrea spent several weeks in misery and fear. She slaved such a long hard hours that at night she stumble on her hammock, slung between the decks along with the other crew members, exhausted.

Being the lowliest member of the crew, as well as the youngest and the newest, she was at the beck and call of every member of the ship.

Every filthy job came her way, from emptying the slop jars in the officers quarters to scrape the hull of the ship and it seemed that those slavering weeks that she spent between running errands between decks is too much for her small and feminine body but she astonishingly managed to endure it all.

The thoughts of having escaped from the Dela Peña lifted her spirits and tye salt-sweet breezes blew over the ocean soothed her inner thoughts.

As the day goes by she's used to being in the sea. One of the things she liked the most and it likes a compensation to her when they ordered her into the riggings, and just like when she was young and being called a monkey, she climbed up into the sail, unafraid of the danger and the dizzying heights. For her all she could feel was the excitement and it's as if she was possessed by the thunder and the crash of the storm.

Whenever she thought that she would see a real sea battle…At first she was afraid when she heard the first warning shot when they stumbled into another pirate ship that they sighted. Just like the ship's name Hawk, he swooped down on it's prey like a hawk.

She had felt the youthful terror, but then the excitflowedand spirits from the other sea fighters flowed into her veins and eagerly, her eyes sparkle with adventure and for a second she remembered her brother Andrew, coz there's a time that they'll play pirate.

But this is not a plaything, what's in front of her is a real deal. When she decided that she should join the fray, waiting and almost impatient to do her share, her small figure had noticed by the Captain dashing into the smoke filled decks, he harshly ordered her to hide in the cabins out of danger.

Moved by the youthful excitement, she sneaked and returned back to the deck only to be caught by the Captain again, he harshly dragged her into his cabin and lock it before he goes back and give orders to his other sea fighter crew to secure their victory.

Perhaps, moved by the youth of the boy, Xander command Andrea to be his personal servant.

Once she becomes the Captain's servant, there were sneers and sly remarks from the other crew about being Captains "boy," for Andrea who's aware of the danger, wisely hold her tongue and pretended that she doesn't understand or hear them.

Since she becomes the Captain's servant, Andrea feels more secured. Although she didn't complain before, she's still afraid that one day the other sailor might discover her secret since she sleeps with them in the same cabin.

She indignantly strung her hammock in the corner of Xander's cabin faraway from the captains bunk. Xander give her the task of keeping his cabin and gear clean.

Although she's more secured now, she feels disappointed in her new status, a d because if that she will look at him with the dark look that brings amusement to the captain.

Sometimes, he will taunt him for lacking of gratitude; "You know, Drew, half dozen boys below deck would be happy to be in your shoes- and do a better job to boot!"

The young boy held her tongue and tried not to add fuel to the amusement of the Captain. Coz she already learned that the more she talked the more he'll make fun of her.

The only thing that she really liked about the Captains cabin was his collection of books. Sometimes she'll read once she's already finished with whatever task she needs to do.

Until one day, Xander caught her red handed while lazily reading some book at his table.

But when Xander discovered that his ungrateful cabin servant knows how to read and write, he promptly give him a new task by compiling legible lists of the plunder they captured.

At first, she thought he'll get angry with her, because she touched his things without permission. But to her surprise he just give her a new task. And that not only did she become his personal cabin boy but his secretary as well.

If she'll be honest with herself, she's happy with the new arrangement because staying in the Captain's cabin is safer than sleeping at the other's members place. She can hide her real gender really well, since the Captain's cabin has its own washroom.

She realized that had she been stayed in with the crew, she doubts whether her gender would remain a secret, but since she's the "Captains boy" no one dared to touch her, though she can still hear them making a bad remarks on her.

Sometimes, she wondered whether the Captain knows her secret, because for the last month that she's with them, he never asked who she really is or who's her family.

She also doesn't want to ask or mentioned it to him since he also doesn't ask her. If she's honest to herself, she admired the Captain and think of him as her hero.

If it's not for his generosity she wouldn't be able to escape from her demented distant relatives or her secret would have been revealed by now if he didn't ask her to be her personal servant.

But because of her nature and pride, she wouldn't dare tell him that. Not yet anyway.
