Chapter 3

I couldn't stop thinking about my mother for the entire day, I wanted to go see how my father was doing, but I couldn't stand to look at him. How could he leave his mate, his wife like that?

Henry went with me when I took bruiser for a walk while Sebastian had a quick guard meeting, trying to get things back to normal.

"Henry when will you find your mate?"

"Soon I hope, I used to think it was stupid, but after seeing you and Sebastian... I don't know, I want to experience it for myself." He continues to kick a rock down the forest path. "I hope she's half as kind as you are."

"Henry, why are you so adorable?" I laugh and playfully shove him.

"Some of us were just made to woo the ladies of this world, and I wear my badge proudly." He jokingly smirks and runs his hand through his hair. "But I have to respect Sebby and not steal your heart."

I roll my eyes. "Your mate is going to get a handful."

"Woah, when did you become so blunt?"

"I don't know, maybe when I thought everyone I love was going to die, and then one did." I sigh and sit down on a rock to the side of the path.

Henry gives me a sad smile and crouches beside me. "It will get better, you have so much ahead of you." He places his hand on my shoulder and kisses my forehead softly. "You're practically my sister and I'm not going to watch to suffer."

I look up at him. "I need to distract myself."

"Why don't you just pop out a baby or two, then you'll have a lot to do!" Henry smiles and I roll my eyes again.

"What? Maybe I want a baby in the house." He shrugs. "They're so cute and they make funny noises."

"Why don't you find your mate and then have one with them?"

"It would be much faster if you do all the work."

"Let's stop talking about this." I groan and get up. "It's too early to think about babies."

"I'm going to pray for it, I'm going to pray that you'll have a baby."

"Please don't." I continue to walk and leave him behind, but he catches up.

"I don't know if I'll ever find my mate."

"Don't say that." I pull bruiser along as he constantly stops to sniff everything. "She's out there somewhere, you just have to keep an eye out."

"Promise me that if I never find my mate you'll give me one of your babies so I'm not forever alone." He looks at me with big doe like eyes.

"I'm not promising that."

"Ya I didn't think you would." He shrugs and we continue along down the path.

Every few minutes I let out a sneeze and Henry tells me how cute they sound, but I always thought they sounded annoying. At first I thought it was my allergies but when the coughing came on I knew it was something more.

"I'm fine I swear." I say while Bruiser begins to pull me back home.

"Maybe you should take a nap, that might clear everything up."

"You're right, I haven't been getting much sleep since I left Sebastian, last night was my first full night of sleep for two weeks."

Henry takes Bruiser when we get back home and I head straight upstairs for my nap. I change out of my clothes and decide to put on pajamas to be extra comfortable. I curl up in the blankets and rest my head gently on the pillow, slowly I start to feel myself slip away until the door swings open and Sebastian comes hurrying in.

He sits down on the edge of the bed beside me. "I asked Henry where you were and he told me you were sick."

"I'm not sick, just tired." I internally curse at Henry for worrying Sebastian while he's trying to get the pack back on track.

He gently places his hand on my forehead. "You're a little warm."

"No I'm not."

He lightly chuckles at my childishness. "You're going to tell me you're not warm after I just felt it?"

"Uh, yes." I smile and curl back up in the blankets. "I'm fine I swear, when I wake up I'll be back to normal."

"Alright if you say so, but if you need me I'll be in my office."

I nod and try to cover the blush that fills my cheeks when he softly kisses them. When he leaves the room it doesn't take me long to fall asleep.

Slowly but surely I began to wake up, and I was wrong, I was so wrong. My nose is all stuffy, my throat hurts, and my head pounds painfully. I feel as if I was just hit by a truck, a truck full of sickness. At first I can't stand up without wobbling all over the place so I sit back down on the bed.

"Why? Why do this to me universe?" I mutter to no one and rest my head in my hands.

"Evangeline, dinner is ready!" Marinas voice calls to me from downstairs and I groan.

"Okay, baby steps." I slowly stand back up and shuffle to the door then slowly make my way down each step.

"I'm coming." I croak and cringe at the sound of my voice, I could use some hot tea.

Marina peeks around the corner from the kitchen and her face scrunches when she sees me. "Honey are you feelin' okay?"

"I thought the nap was going to help but it made things worse." I say and follow her into the dinning room. Henry looks up and drops his fork.

"I'm guessing the nap didn't work." He pulls out the chair beside him and I lazily sit down.

Sebastian walks in and crosses his arms at my appearance. "I told you."

I drop my head to the table and sigh. "Do I really look that bad, because I doubt it's worse than I feel."

Sebastian pulls out the chair beside me and sits down. "You look beautiful." He brushes my hair behind my ear and I bring my head back up.

"That cute how you lie to her like that." Henry smiles at us and continues eating.

I glare at him and Marina sets a hot cup of tea down in front of me, as if she read my mind.

"Henry, stop." Sebastian shakes his head at him and rubs my back.

"Drink up and I'll bring you some nighttime medication so you'll sleep through." He says and I slip on the tea.

After I drink all the tea I take a hot shower and get ready for bed. Sebastian comes in with two pills and a glass of water. I take the medicine and climb back into bed hoping that when I wake up in the morning I'll be a bit better. "I'll be up in an hour." He brushes my hair from my face and kisses my forehead.

"I don't want to get you sick." I mumble and sniffle for the thousandth time.

"I don't get sick." He strokes my cheek and turns of the lights before leaving the door slightly cracked open.

He just doesn't get sick? What?
