Chapter 3

Xavier's POV

Hi. My name's Xavier Slade. Me and my twin brother Xander are werewolves. Yup, you got it right, werewolves. We're 20 years old and we are looking for our mate. Have been from the time when we turned 18 actually and we still haven't found her after two agonizing years.

We both stand at 6'8 feet and we have big muscles - I'm not trying to brag, they just are big - from hard training. We both have messy brown hair that just cannot be tamed whatever we do and sky blue eyes, Xander however has green specks in them, too. We have a kind of an olive skin tone thanks to the werewolf genes.

So a little about werewolves:

We live in packs that have:

- the leaders (the Alpha(s) and the Luna)

- the second in commands (the Beta and Beta Female/Male)

- the third in commands (TICs)

- and last but not least, the pack members

Some wolves, who have been banished or have left their pack on their own, are called Rogues. They usually stick to the 'unclaimed lands' (non-pack lands) and if they don't cause any trouble, we don't have a problem with them.

And then, there's the most important thing with werewolves - mates aka soulmates. Every werewolf has one, no matter if you're a Rogue or not, and finding them is one of the most important things in our lives. They are our key to happiness and staying calm and in control over our wolves. Mates can be recognized from the age of 18 and we can recognize them by their scent, the pull towards them or the tingles that come when touching them. Mates are sacred for us and losing one's mate will usually lead to depression or in worse cases even suicide.

It's really hard being without your mate and watching how all your friends and pack members act all lovey-dovey with theirs.

Being twins we share the title of the Alpha of the Black Shadow pack - the biggest pack in the world. We took the Alpha position when we turned 18 so it made looking for our mate a little harder because we didn't have very much time to look for her.

We need to find her soon or our inner wolves will try and take control because we don't have a mate to calm them. Also we need to find her so that our pack will have their Luna who is probably the most important person in the pack.

Right now, me and my twin are walking around the city, trying to find a nice place to eat.

"Hey bro, what about that little cafe?" my twin asked me and I looked in the direction he was pointing at.

It was a nice little coffee shop with a big window in the front. We've been there a few times but I've never felt this weird pull that I now had towards the cafe.

"Hey Xan do you feel that weird pull too or is it just me?"

"Oh yeah, I feel it too, weird. Let's go and check it out?"

"Sure." With that we started walking towards the coffee shop.

"Xav when do you think we'll find our mate?" Xan asked me as we opened the door.

"I don't know man, I-," and then a wonderful smell hit us and we froze.

"Hey do you smell it?" Xander asked through our mind link.

"Of course."

We started to sniff the air, the smell was intoxicating. It smelled like strawberries and forest, perhaps a weird combination but we couldn't get enough of it. We looked around the shop, trying to locate the source of the smell.

And that's when we met a pair of emerald green eyes, staring at us.

"MATE. IT'S MATE. GO TO HER," our wolves Ryder and Tyler basically screamed at us in our heads while they pranced around happily, wagging their tails like some overly happy dogs.

"We aren't dogs, now go to mate," they growled.

"Okay, okay, calm down. Both of you."

We hopped over the counter and engulfed our little mate in a hug between us. Pleasurable sparks were everywhere we touched her.

"Damn, she's tiny," Xan mindlinked me, chuckling lowly in his head.

"She sure is, bro."

And she really was tiny - compared to our 6'8 height and muscly frames, probably compared to anyone. I'd say she is about 5'1 or 5'2 feet and that is VERY small compared to us. But we both liked it because it would be easier to protect and hide her if the need ever arose.

We sniffed her neck and god, that intoxicating mix of smells that came from her; I could smell it all day long.

We both mumbled 'mate' while sniffing her neck because it was just so good. Both of us fell in love with that smell and the person who it came from.

All three of us stayed like that for a few minutes when suddenly our little mate tried to wriggle out of our grasp but me and my brother didn't let her go - we only held on tighter and pressed our noses more into her neck.

She stopped moving and turned to someone who wasn't in the room before. She said something to the new person but I didn't focus on it. I focused on our baby girl's angelic voice - it was sweet and soft, like a lullaby that mothers sing to their children in the evenings.

The person - a woman, I came to realize - came to us and asked us something about letting our mate go? Like that would be an option. When she saw that we weren't moving, she tried to come and pry our hands off our little one. Me and Xander growled at that and held onto our little mate even tighter. We nuzzled her neck and mumbled 'ours' because that is who she was now - ours.

Our angel started talking again and this time it was us who she was talking to.

"Ummm... could you please release me now?" she asked us.

At which we replied with a "NO. NEVER. YOU'RE OURS NOW."

There was no way we were going to let her go, so we tightened our hold on her even more.

"Yours? What do you mean, yours?" I could tell she was really confused by the tone of her voice.

"You're our mate which means that you are now ours, little one," Xan explained.

"Mate? What do you mean, mate? I'm pretty sure it means 'friend' in Australia but we just met which means that we can't exactly be friends yet sooo... why do you call me mate?"

Wait what?

She didn't know?

How can she NOT know, she's an elf, isn't she?

What the...

We looked at her, shocked.

"You don't know who a mate is?" we asked her, bewildered.

"No... am I supposed to?" she asked in her sweeter-than-honey voice, looking at us curiously. We just stared at her with big eyes.

Xan and me looked at each other.

"How can she not know who a mate is? She is one of supernatural creatures, why doesn't she know?"

"I don't know brother, I don't know..."

"Um... hello? Could someone explain me what's going on because I honestly don't think I understand anything right now."

That snapped us out of our mind link and we looked at her again. I must say, her confused face is really cute because her small nose is scrunched up like a little bunny's and it is simply adorable.

"And could you at least loosen your grip a little because it kind of hurts?"

At that our eyes widened again and we loosened our hands around her immediately.

We were really worried now and attempted to lift the hem of her shirt to see if we left any visible marks on her delicate skin but she shrieked adorably and held her blouse down.

But me and my twin weren't having any of that and finally lifted it. What we saw made our wolves almost come through which means that our eye colour changed from sky blue to midnight blue. Her waist was covered in bruises from our tight grips on her.

She ran her hands over the bruises and hissed in pain.

We couldn't contain the growls that bubbled up.

The other woman in the room ran to a back room for... okay, I don't really know what for.

Me and Xan looked at each other, our little mate's face and then her waist where her small hand was still resting.

The woman - who I now finally recognized as Sarah, the owner of the cafe - ran back with an ice pack and wet towels. Our little one grabbed the packet of ice while we took the towels and put them gently on her back and sides. She pressed the ice on her front and hissed again. She's like a little kitten when she does that.

No, Xavier, focus.

"Princess are you okay?!" I asked while trying to add as less pressure as I could, fearing I had pushed too hard.

"Yes, yes, I'm okay, I'm okay," she answered as she adjusted to the coldness of the ice and the towels.

A few minutes later she gave the ice and towels to Sarah - thanking her - and we went to her, sliding our arms around her.

"We're sorry, princess," me and Xander said synchronized while looking at her, filled with concern and regret.

Then she did something very surprising.

She pinched our cheeks and awed.

"Aww you guys look like cute little puppies like that."

She giggled when she noticed our ears and cheeks turning pink and that giggle was the most amazing sound I have ever heard.

"And don't worry, I forgive you."

We gave her a kiss on her cheeks and she turned red, like a cute little tomato.

Xander and me grinned which made her face turn even redder, if that's even possible.

She's so adorable!
