Chapter 2

Wedding Reception.

"I wish you a happy married life," Nola said to her friend.

"Thank you, dear, I'd need it." Shanequa sighed.

"Maybe it won't be that bad." She tried to cheer up her friend.

"I hope so, Ma's motioning for me to join her, I'd catch up with you later," Shanequa added as she walked to join her mom, husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law

"Hi, Ma," She greeted.

"Oh hey darling, happy married life." Elsa smiled at her daughter.

"Thanks."She gritted her teeth in response.

"Anyways, both your belongings have been moved to your new house and the contract has been signed binding both companies as well." She smiled slyly.

"You guys are so much in a hurry to ship us off to someplace huh?"Kamon asked.

"Congrats Son, you've made me proud." His father added as they all walked off leaving the couple behind.

"How I wish I could just get out of here," Shanequa added storming off leaving her husband behind.

After the ceremony was over, the couple got into the car as their driver drove them home. Shanequa fell asleep due to exhaustion and stress.

After a long drive, they had arrived at their home. It was in the same district as their parents but farther from their houses.

The driver held open the door of the car as Kamon carried his sleeping wife and headed inside the house. He took her to one of the master bedrooms and helped her change from her gown into something comfortable.

After a long while, Shanequa woke up wondering where she was.

Oh yeah, I'm a married woman now and I'm in my husband's house. She said to herself as she realised she was no longer in her gown but in a long shirt and bum shorts underneath.

Kamon. She thought and smiled. She was glad to see only her stuff in the room. The fact that they were married didn't mean they should share the same room when they had no romantic feelings towards each other.

"Hey, you got something to eat?" She asked Kamon as she stood at the door to his study.

"Naah, not hungry besides I've got some files to go over." He added stressed.

"Okay, well we've got work tomorrow so I suggest you get some rest." She added.

"And why would I do what you say? Because of this sham, you call marriage so you think you can tell me what to do?" He angrily asked.

"Hey, I'm sorry okay. I just thought you needed rest that's all, but it seems you don't. Have a horrible night." Shanequa walked away as Kamon buried his head in his hands.

I deserved that, she was only trying to be caring.

Besides, I never asked for her care! He counteracted the first thought.

Kamon was walking off to his room as his wife walked past him. He grabbed her hand and pulled his protesting wife towards him.

"What the hell Kamon!" Shanequa yelled clearly angry.

"I'm sorry Shanequa." He added stroking her hair.

"All of this is just new and taking a toll on me." He said after a while.

"It's the same for me Kamon, baby steps, just baby steps." She added as she pulled out from the hug.

"I'd see you in the morning before work." She added as they walked separate ways to their rooms.

"Good morning." Shanequa greeted her husband at the table.

"Good morning and have a nice day," Kamon added dumping his mug in the sink as he headed out.

"Who peed in his cereal?" Shanequa asked aloud.

"Kendra, can you get me a cup of cappuccino please?" Shanequa requested as the house help hurried to get her one.

"Here you are, ma'am," Kendra said as she set the mug on the table.

"Thank you," Shanequa added as she poured the cappuccino into her flask and got up.

"Have a nice day dear, and for dinner don't prepare anything heavy, something light would do." She instructed as she sat in her car and drove off.

Shanequa hurried to her mom's office where she was waiting for her.

"Sorry I'm late Ma, I had to take care of somethings," Shanequa added as she sat down.

"Don't worry love, I understand," Elsa added smirking at her clearly confused daughter.

She led Shanequa to her new office after she had introduced her to the board as her successor. All the employees in the company were well aware that Shanequa was their new boss.

"Mrs Elsa said I should bring these files to you." Her secretary, Georgette said breaking her from her self-induced trance.

"Thanks, leave them on the table, I'd attend to them later," Shanequa added as Georgette left the office.

The workload wasn't that much but Shanequa got home drained and hungry.

"Welcome, ma'am." Kendra greeted and took her handbag.

"Is my husband back?" She asked Kendra as she entered the kitchen and headed to the dinning.

"No ma'am, he isn't," Kendra stated.

After dinner, Shanequa went upstairs to freshen up and then came back down to wait for her husband. The clock read 2:30 am and Kamon wasn't yet home.

Where could he be?

What's keeping him late?

Shanequa asked herself. She called his line countless times but no answer. She called his office but the secretary claimed he wasn't there.

"Hello, Sir." She said through the phone as her father in law picked.

"Shanequa, what do you want at this time of the night?" He asked annoyed she had ruined his sleep.

"I'm sorry Sir but is Kamon at your end?" She asked as Peter went out of his room to ask his youngest child.

"Yes, dear he's here," Peter added after he had confirmed.

"Any problem?" He wondered.

"Er, erm he told me he would be coming over so I wanted to know if he had gotten there safe. His line was off and that's why I called you." She lied.

"Alright dear, he's here no cause for alarm." Peter teased.

"Thank you Sir, and enjoy your sleep," Shanequa said as she hung up relieved.

He could have told me he wanted to go visit his parents.

Is this marriage or deal or whatever it is going to last? She wondered as she climbed up to her room.

She wasn't sleepy and decided to binge-watch her favourite series.

She wasn't going to work that day so she decided to make the best use of the day.

"What time are you going home? Your wife called me at dawn." Peter said to his son at the dining.

"What did she want?"He asked clearly unamused.

"Apparently, someone forgot to tell wifey that he had arrived home safe and since wifey was worried about you, she called dad to ask." His younger sister, Melinda said.

"Oh, okay, I'd call her up later." He said. He was surprised she didn't rat him out to his father.

His mother and her friends had travelled on a cruise to relax and de-stress. Those were Simona's exact words.

"Make sure you do, I don't want any more calls from anyone," Peter added as he climbed up to his study.

"You clearly didn't tell her that you were coming here did you?" Melinda asked.

"Shut up Mel, at least you won't go through this in future." He added walking out.

"What did you expect Lara Jean?" Shanequa asked out loud as she watched To all the boys I've loved before pt2

A knock on her door made her pause her movie. "Come in Kendra." She said as the young house help entered with a tray of warm milk and cookies.

"Thank you very much, you've become my favourite person on earth now." Shanequa teased.

"You welcome ma'am." She smiled.

"Call me Shanequa, no ma'am, it makes me feel old." She added.

"Alright, ma-- Shanequa," Kendra added as Shanequa chuckled.
