Chapter 8

“Thanks for the meal, Shanequa," Nola added looking at the time. “You're welcome dear, safe ride home." She said to her friend as she entered her car and Bill drove her off.

“Ma'am, so there anything else you want?" Kendra asked her.

“Yes, Some pringles." She said as Kendra got them from the cupboard and handed them over to her as she walked off to her room.

“Where are all my stuff?" She asked no one in particular as she walked out.

“You looking for your stuff?" Kamon asked her.

“Yeah." She stated as he led her to his room. She was shocked at how he had decorated the stuff in the room to fit both their belongings.

“Welcome to your new room," Kamon added. She was shocked and didn't know what to say or do.

“Who was this man and what had he do to my husband." She asked herself.

“You like it?" He asked her after a few minutes of silence. " Yes." She said as she sat on the bed munching her pringles and switching between stations. Kamon chuckled as he sat behind his work table working on files.

“I'm bored now." She whined like a child.

“You've had enough TV for one night, Shane, time for bed," Kamon added saving his work and shutting down his laptop.

“But I'm not sleepy, I want Ice cream, chocolate chip cookies and Doritos." She grinned.

“I'd go downstairs and go get them for you." Kamon smiled as he headed to the kitchen. He picked a tub of ice cream and a plate of cookies then two bags of Doritos and then a bottle of water and orange juice and set them on a tray as he carried them to the room. He set them on the table beside the bed as Shanequa beamed in happiness.

“Thank you, Kamon." She said opening the tub of ice cream and taking a scoop.

“You welcome love." He added.

He waited for her to happily finish her snacks and then put her to bed.

“Night, Shane." He whispered kissing her temple as she smiled.

Kamon walked around the room preparing for work and making sure not to wake his wife up. A wave of nausea hit her as she hurried to the washroom to throw up. Kamon followed suit as he held her hair up for her while she did so.

“You okay now?" He asked her as she took her brush to clean her teeth. She nodded in response telling him she was fine as he walked inside the room to pick his briefcase.

“Have fun at home and don't stress yourself too much, you need rest." He walked towards her hugging her

“I will, but don't worry much about me, I'd be fine besides Nola's coming over and Kendra's around so I'd be alright." She assured as he walked out of the room.

Shanequa sat on the bed as she scrolled through stations lazily.

“Alright, Peter, that's fine by me. Handling the company for another year before I retire isn't a big deal. I've been doing so for years so one more year won't harm me."Elsa added. She had been informed of the complications her daughter was having and she had to have more rest.

“I have to go see her within the week." She thought to herself

“Zane love, I need some money to get something's for the house." His wife, Savannah said.

“Sav, you just stocked the fridge and cupboard three days back what do you need more money for?" He asked looking up from his work laptop.

“But err, I erm--." She fumbled. “I'm giving you nothing Savannah, you make your own money use it. I can't keep giving you money for your useless shopping sprees get that into your thick skull if you don't mind I've got work to do." He dismissed her.

Savannah stormed out of the study angrily, walking to her room. "Such a Stingy man." She said aloud as she picked money from the purse that she kept her spare money in. She had seen a couple of new dresses at the boutique closer to her work and decided to get them for herself. She was a big spendthrift but one thing she never did was to spend beyond her budget.

“I deserve some pampering." She always said to herself each time she was going clothes shopping.

“Erique!" His father called him from the study.

“Dad?" He answered heading towards his dad's office.

"What is it, Oldman?" He asked uninterested in what his dad had to say.

“Sit." He said as Erique sat down reluctantly.

“I see you're doing well with the other companies, they've gained so much profit and grown much stronger. They're doing well in the competitive market as well. Good job." He congratulated him.

“Thanks, Oldman, but why does it feel like there's a but or another option." He asked.

“There is, you need to get married." He told him.

“I hope you're not pushing me into the arms of another friend's daughter as you did to Kamon?" He guilt tripped.

“No, no that would only come in if you don't heed to my request." He slyly smiled.

“Okay, old man, I'd think about it," Erique said.

“You better think fast son, or you might end up like Kamon or in a much worse situation. You know what Daddy dearest can do." Peter added.

“Yes, father." He gritted his teeth and walked out of the room as Peter took a drink from his glass.

“Come on Melinda, at least you get to work in your dad's hospital someday." Nita her friend said. Melinda was in her final year of college, she was aspiring to become a medical doctor, at least she won't be forced into some business she didn't like. Her dad had built a hospital even though he had no knowledge in medicine, his partner was a medical doctor at the time so he took care of most things around the hospital. He was a retired doctor now and the vice-chairman of the hospital.

“At least, it's not some business company to be pushed into like he's done to my brother's." She said as they entered their dormitory.

“Yeah, you're right we pray he spent force you into marrying someone you don't love." Her conscience pricked.
