A New Friend

I got dressed and sat on the bed in the room for a while. I wasn't quite sure what I was suppose to do considering I wasn't suppose to be here until my father and Josiah sat down and talked about what the plan was going to be when we moved in together. That's how Alphas usually worked. The two Alphas were suppose to talk to each other about what they wanted from the joined union. Kinda like those old stories you hear about the father of the bride paying for the groom to marry his daughter. Only this was a mutual thing between packs, sometimes they joined land, sometimes they would just leave it how it was. But it was just how things happened with us wolves.

Maybe they sat down and talked it through before he left with me and I was just too plastered to be there to witness it? Maybe Josiah just didn't want my two cents in the conversation. Maybe he was one of those Alphas that believed that their mates should be seen and not heard? I don't know what I would do with myself if that was the case. I always wanted to be treated as an equal, like most packs Alphas are treated. What was I going to do if he expected me to just be a side ordainment?

I took a few calming deep breaths to calm myself down. I really didn't know what it was going to be like so why should I be stressing so much about it? I just needed to sit back and relax for a minute and then figure out what to do now that I'm here.

I laid on the bed and took a few calming deep breaths. I kept my eyes closed while doing so and only focused on nothing, just clearing my mind and taking away all the frantic thoughts in my head that were only going to hurt me more than they needed to.

There was a knock at the door that made me shoot up from where I was laying on the bed with a fright. Before I had a change to calm myself down and actually get up out of the bed and go answer the door it was thrown opened by a young girl that wasn't much older than I was. She had a slight smile on her face and her whole energy was just as simple and calm.

"Hello Luna, Alpha sent me in with some things for you since you weren't able to pack before you came here." She giggle. I noticed that her arms were full of clothes with tags still on them.

"I hope you like them the Alpha gave me the clothes that you wore here and I just bought some things that were the same size. I wasn't quite sure what you would like to wear so I made sure to grab a little of everything I saw."

It was then I noticed shopping bags all outside the bedroom door. How did I not hear her placing them all there?

"Oh, well thank you..."

"Avery, Luna."

I smiled gratefully at Avery for not getting upset at me not asking her name to begin with.

"Do you happen to know what it is that I should be doing right now?" I asked her shyly.

"I was just told to bring you the clothes Luna." She said shaking her head.

"Oh, of course. Here let me help you get the rest of the bags into the room, and please call me Evelyn. Luna makes me feel like I'm old like my mother."

She giggled at that and followed me to the rest of the bags. We started carrying them in together without another word.

It took us a lot of trips to get the bags in. She wasn't joking when she said that she bought a little bit of everything.

"I will put these all away, you can go." I offered with a smile.

"Oh no Luna, I couldn't do that I was told by Alpha that I am to do it!" She said in a hurry.

"Well how about you help me, I would really like to look at everything and I have a certain way of putting things in the closet." I told her with a smile.

She seemed to be a little worried about it but nodded and agreed to let me help her.

We spent most of the afternoon working on putting the clothes away all while laughing and smiling at each other. Avery was a really sweet girl and I found out that she was the previous Beta's youngest daughter.

She didn't like to talk about Josiah much though, she was fairly timid about him and I didn’t understand why. Did he do something to her when they were children? Or was he really that evil of an Alpha?

My thoughts were interrupted by a small squeal from Avery.

"I have to go, Alpha wants me to do my chores now." She said quickly and bowing her head before she left the room quickly leaving me slightly confused.

I looked around the room to see that we had just finished putting the last of the clothes away. I sighed with frustration and boredom and threw myself down on the bed with my arms spread out.

I didn't have much time alone because soon after that the door opened to reveal a smiling Josiah. I was confused by his odd smile. Didn't he leave all upset this morning?

"Hello mate! I hope you enjoy the clothes I had bought for you."

"They're all so beautiful, but you didn't need to do that, I'm sure if we asked my parents they would of sent my clothes to us without a problem."

No matter what kind of mate he was I didn't want to be the mate he thought he had to buy. I wanted a genuine relationship, not one about his status or money.

"I'm sure they would of, but then I wouldn't have gotten to spoil you so." He said with a smile, but his eyes didn't seem to agree with it. He was hiding something.

"I just don't want you thinking that you have to buy my affection, that's all." I said with a shy smile.

His face changed at that, becoming somewhat longing.

"I'm am so lucky to have you." He said with a small smile.

"Dinner will be in 20 minutes, I'd like for you to change into something nice, we're going to be eating with the pack, and then tomorrow night we're going to introduce you to them as their Luna."

I smiled and nodded in acknowledgment while getting up to go look for something acceptable to wear in the closet. I guess he really wasn't all that bad.
