WEEKS AFTER the celebration, Luke phoned me.

“Hello there, Luke?” I greeted him on the other line.

Luke had been visiting me often in our house since that day of my graduation. But I know the real reason was not me. He just wanted to see Lindsay, who was sweet with him when I am around. And she was cold to him when I am not in the view.

How do I know? Well, simply because Luke told me everything. He told me that he was confused with Lindsay’s action. She was sometimes sweet and sometimes annoyed.

I knew it! Lindsay just used Luke to piss me off. And she thought she’ll win? Well, she should think of another action very well.

“What’s the news in your job hunting?” He asked.

“Well, not so good… The competition was so terrible.” I honestly confided.

I even tell him that my pressure of having a job was too high. I’ve been compared to Lindsay because I couldn’t find a job that fasts while she got a job just right before graduating. But what was surprising with that? Lindsay was beautiful? It’s her fate to be spotted by a talent manager.

“Do you accept a job even if it was far from being a marketing manager?” Luke asked.

“But of course. In a time like this, any white-collar job will do.”

“Then… I’ll introduce you to a friend of mine. Let’s meet?” He mentioned to me about the meeting place.

And I was so glad! Not just because I could possible get a job but because I can see him again without the disturbance of my witch of a sister!

AND SO I was hired. Thanks to Luke that he introduced me to her friend, the owner of Suzette’s, a service company. Suzette is known for doing a great job of holding an event. And I was hired to be one of the event coordinators. I was so thankful to Luke, but he refused. He said that I had my own ability. That is why I got the job. The lady boss told him that she would only hire his friend that he’ll introduce, only if they were capable, not just because they were his friend.

Months passed, that my job was doing well. I even saved to get myself my own condo unit. Since my job was always on the go, my parents let me live independently. I finally freed myself into my wicked sister, whose only joy in life is to pissed and annoyed the hell out of me.

And I was right. When I decided to leave our house, Lindsay decided to buy her own place as well. My second and real sister, Eliza, was finally accepted by our parents again. She was back into our family together with her daughter and husband. And I am so happy. My parents adored my nephew so much that they forgot the loneliness when I decided to leave our home.

Years passed, that everything went well. I’ve got the job that I enjoyed so much. Luke was doing what he loves, as well. And he was far from my evil sister.

I finally got the chance to confess to him only to get rejected. He still loves my witch of a sister. Because of that, I hate Lindsay more. I know that she'll use Luke's feelings for her against me. I have a hint that Lindsay knew that I like Luke so much. That is why she was playing with Luke's feelings whenever I am around.

The rejection was so heart-breaking for me. Luke said that he could only offer friendship to me and not greater with that. He cherished me as a great friend: a special friend… nothing more and nothing less.

I don’t know what he saw in her that he was still madly in love with Lindsay.

And because love can make someone silly, I didn't stop there even if it hurts me so bad. If the natural thing to do for someone who had been dumped was to stay away, then that's not the case for me. I didn't cut the bridge. Instead, I made it stronger. He didn't mind nor push me away. Luke actually thought that we can still be friends despite the circumstances. I even showed him that I'm cool with that—being friends. So, I can stay in touch with him.

Huh! Friends, my ass! I am going to win his heart, no matter what. I tried really hard to be close to him. We see each other more often, as long as we have the chance.

Until the news broke into the whole country. The Suarez Group of Companies or SGC was turning its table. The old Suarez announced that he chose his second son to be his heir, and Luke accepted it already. It’s all in the news. What happened to Luke's eldest brother is not made public.

I don’t know what is happening. It’s been almost a month since the last time I talked to him for a long couple of hours. He was always on the go whenever we meet. And I thought he was just busy. This news only told me that many things happened to Luke already, and that was beyond my knowledge. He did not even share with me this pace of the event.

And what more confusing is why he accepts the position when I know his heart was not in the business? How about his graphic designing career?

I was so confused about what is going on, and the only thing I can do is to wait for him to tell me. It was hard for me to get a scheduled appointment since he was always busy.

His phone was always busy.
