Chapter Eleven

Six months later

Ryder POV:

One of our warehouses had been broken into. Samuel, Kade, and a few other members had joined me to check it out.

We looked around to see everything had been completely destroyed and most of our weapons had been taken.

"Who could have done this?" Kade asked. "I haven't a clue. Everyone has been oddly quiet for a while." Samuel replied.

I stayed silent as I checked the place out.

Suddenly we heard a crash in the back of the warehouse.

Simultaneously, we all drew our weapons and slowly walked toward the noise.

"Split up." I whispered.

It wasn't long before I heard a gun shot and a loud thud.

I ran toward the noise and found Samuel on the ground with the shooter running in the opposite direction.

"After him!" I yelled as I rushed to my friend's side.

"Stay with me boss." I said as I put pressure on his wound. "Come on, old man, you've been through worse."

"You're a real.. pain in the ass. You know that?" Samuel coughed out. "Makes two of us." I laughed lightly.

Lana POV:

I had just gotten home from work when my phone rang.

"Hello?" "Lana Reyes?" A man asked. "Who's askin'?" "This is Dr. Harrison with the Nashville Medical Center. We have a Samuel Reyes here." The doctor told me. "He's my dad. Is okay?" I asked as my heart pounded in my chest. "He came in with a gunshot wound to his lower abdomen. We need you and your sister to come down so we can get his medical history." The doctor said. "I'm on my way."

I called Sarah as I headed out the door telling her to meet me at the hospital.

Sarah and I rushed to the front desk in the ER.

"We're here for Samuel Reyes." Sarah told the receptionist. "Relation to the patient?" She asked. "We're his daughters." I replied.

"Room 614."

As soon as we walked in the room, Ryder sat next to my father's sleeping form.

He stood when he saw me. "I'm so sorry, Lana. This is all my fault." Ryder said, weakly.

This was the first time in months that I had seen Ryder.

"What happened?" I asked as Sarah took dad's hand in her own.

"One of the warehouses was broken into. It had to be a trap. Someone was still in there to get the drop on us and shot Sam." Ryder said, his voice full of guilt.

I slowly walked over to him and hugged him. "It's not your fault." I said softly.

"You saved his life, Ryder. If you hadn't been there, he would have been killed." Sarah told him.

"Have the police been here yet?" I asked. "Yeah."

"And?" Sarah asked. "I told them I didn't get a good look at the shooter. Which I really didn't. Only saw the back of his head."

"Short? Long? What color was it?" I asked. "Short and dark brown I think?" Ryder said.

"What was he wearing?" Sarah asked. "A leather jacket. Actually, come to think of it, he had a patch on the back that I had never seen before." Ryder told us. "What was it?" I asked. "An ouroboros."

My brows furrowed in confusion. "I've never met anyone with an ouroboros patch before. Who could it have been?" I asked. "I have no clue." Ryder replied.

The doctor walked in the room to greet us.

"Lana and Sarah?" He asked. "Yes." We said. "I'm Dr. Harrison."

"What can you tell us, doc?" I asked.

"Well, it was touch and go for a while. The bullet had shattered on impact. It may take some time but he should make a full recovery." The doctor said with a small smile.

I nodded as I let out a sigh of relief.

Kade walked in a while later. "How's the boss?" He asked. "He's gonna be fine." Sarah told him.

Kade's look softened when he saw Sarah.

"I'm sorry about this." He said. "Like we told Ryder, it's not your fault." Sarah replied with a soft smile.

"Ugh. What the hell?" We heard dad groan.

"Hey, old man. How do you feel?" I asked.

Dad looked at Sarah and I, squinting, trying to adjust to the light.

"Lana? Sarah? What the hell?" He asked, confused.

"You're in the hospital, boss." Kade told him.

Soon realization dawned on him.

"Mother fucker. Who the hell shot me?" He asked. "We don't know. Someone we've never seen before. He had an ouroboros symbol on his jacket." Ryder told him. "What the hell? I've never run into a gang with that symbol." Dad told him.

"Then we have a lot of research to do." Kade replied.
