Chapter Six

Lana POV:

Cole pulled up to my house after our date.

"I had a good time." Cole said. I smiled at him. "Me, too." I replied.

He lightly kissed my cheek, making me blush. "I'll see you tomorrow." He told me. "Okay." I said before walking inside.

When I walked through the door, I heard loud footsteps.

"Where the hell have you been?" My dad asked.

I bit my lip but stayed silent.

"Where were you, Lana!" He yelled making me flinch. I couldn't believe he raised his voice to me.

"I was on a date.." I replied softly. "So you think it's okay to ditch your guard? You could have been hurt!" Dad yelled.

"Stop yelling at me! It was one date, dad!" I yelled back.

"Lana Hope, you're smarter than this." Dad told me. "Why do you have to give me so much shit, dad? Sarah goes on dates all the time. Why is it okay for her but not me? Why are you so against me spending time with a boy? Why not Sarah? I'll tell you. Because she's your favorite! You have always cared more about her than me!" I said.

"That's not true and you know it." He replied. "Do I? Because you've given Sarah everything she's ever wanted. I'm invisible to you and I always have been. When she asks for something you don't hesitate to give it to her, but me.." I stopped to calm myself down.

"Lana.." I cut him off. "No, dad. Stop denying it to make yourself feel better because you know I'm right." I said before storming to my room.

Soon after I closed the door, Sarah walked in. "Hey. Are you okay?" She asked. "You heard?" I asked. "Everything. I know this is unfair to you. I gave dad hell for it, too. Ryder almost bit my head off when I wouldn't tell him where you were." She told me.

"Why?" I asked. "He wanted to go after you." Sarah replied. "Since when the hell is it any of his business?" I asked. "It's not. That's why I didn't tell him." She said. "Thanks."

"So, how did it go?" Sarah asked, a wide smile on her face.

"It was great. Cole is a really good guy." I replied, smiling. "Are you going to go out again?" She asked. "I hope so." I replied.

Ryder POV:

"Hey, boss." I said as I entered his office. "Hey." He muttered.

"I'm guessing Lana is home?" I asked. Samuel nodded and looked at me. "She said the same thing Sarah did." He told me.

He looked so hurt but his daughters were right. I noticed he gave Sarah everything and treated Lana like she was a child.

"Sorry, boss. Anything I can do?" I asked. "Well, I would say Sarah told her what happened here. She is most likely just as pissed at you as she is me." Samuel told me.

"Wonderful." I muttered. Fucking shit.

I left the office and knocked on Lana's door. Instead of her answering, Sarah did.

"Beat it. We're talking." She said. I only pushed by her and looked at Lana.

"Please, not you too." She muttered.

"What were you thinking?" I asked.

"Ryder, why is this any of your business anyway?" Lana asked.

"You're my friend and I was worried." I told her. "So it's okay to demand to know where I am so you can embarrass me in front of my date?" She asked me.

That made me clench my teeth and my hands curl into tight fists.

"You ditched your guards. How the hell was I supposed to know if you were safe or not?" I asked.

"Well, I am. I'm here and I was in no danger, so leave it."

"Are you going to see him again?" I asked. "Maybe." She told me. I huffed in annoyance. "You can't just ditch the guards, Lana." I said.

"What would you have me tell Cole, then? I can't tell him about our lives. I can't tell him that I have guards following me. What the hell would I tell him?" She asked.

"I don't care! You just can't do that!" I yelled. "It's none of your business! You're not my father!" Lana yelled at me.

"No, but he's right." I replied. "Fuck outta here, Ryder! You and my dad are the same! Neither of you will let me have a life of my own! Just leave me the hell alone!"

I'd had enough of this. I turned and slammed the door behind me.
