My Discovery~me inventa

I was tired of crying, it was exhausting, boring and not to talk of embarrassing- speaking from experience, I was so embarrassed seeing my snot on Alma's clothes. Apologizing over and over again, and him saying it's fine, but I could see his face contorted with disgust. He didn't know how to hide it, which made me feel worse, I face palmed.

"Give me your shirt, let me wash it" I demanded, with my hands outstretched so I could take it, looking away from him, just to add to the drama.

He snorted, "wash your face first".

Opening and closing my mouth like a fish out of water, I groan in utter embarrassment, while making a beeline for the bathroom.

"Do not leave this room without me Alma!" I shouted from the bathroom. I was surprised to see him sitting on the bed, When I came out. I nodded in approval.

"So are you going to give me a tour or what?" I asked, looking down at him, since I was standing and he was sitting.

He shrugged, "I suppose, before you go poking your head in people's rooms" he said looking at me pointedly.

I rolled my eyes at him, it was a one time thing, he is making a big deal about it if you ask me.

I start to go to the door, pulling it open, I now slightly.

"After you gentleman" adopting a terrible British accent.

He rolls his eyes, and walks out, but I could see his lips lightly turning up, a hint of smile. I was pleased.

He explains that the total number of floors are unknown, nobody ever bothered to find out. Angels sure we're lazy. Also, different floors also called levels held different levels of Angels, I suppose they don't want lower class Angels dragging leadership with the higher class Angels.

"So what level are you on?" I asked him.

"None of the important ones" he mumbles, I detect a hint of sadness, but judging from the expression on his face, my detective skills were lacking, for he was wearing a neutral expression. I remembered his winglessness.

"Aren't fallen Angels supposed to be on Earth?" I asked him, he shoots me a confused look. Then realization dawned on him. He bursts out laughing.

"I didn't say Fallen Angels stay here, what gave you you that impression?" He asked after he finally sobered up.

"Well you are wingless, halo-less, no glow.. what did you expect me to think?" I said defensively. By this time, we had already stopped walking.

"Uhm ..no, I'm not.. I'm not even an Angel" he explained. I was shocked.

"Then what are you?" I didn't know another 'specie' lived here.

"Masculum Servus" he announced proudly in a deep Latin accent. I spaced out from shock.

"You are a male servant?" I asked, thankful that I understood Latin.

He looked offended and proud. Weird combination.

"Don't say it like it is such a terrible thing, it's actually a prestigious thing around here" He said beaming.

I just stared at him, wondering who brainwashed him into thinking a servant is such a "prestigious" thing. Then I remembered when he called those Angels, "Dominus", which was 'Lord' in Latin.

"I'm surprised you know Latin very well, pure Latin. I'm glad" he looked genuinely pleased. No trace of shame or anger at being a servant. I guess being a servant to Angels was a very important job here.

I smiled at him, "I have always loved Latin". He nodded in approval.

I looked around us, many Angels were buzzing around, I spotted a few "masculum Servus"they looked very elated doing their jobs.

My stomach rudely interrupted by grumbling, was I supposed to be hungry in Heaven? I turned to Alma, chuckling nervously, I licked my lips.

"I think I'm hungry" I said looking at my feet, embarrassed to be asking for everything.

Two seconds of silence. Ten seconds. Fifteen. Twenty.

I looked up at him, only to find a very shocked looking Alma.

"Okay fine, the whole world knows how strange I am already, don't over stress it" I said rolling my eyes.

"That's not supposed to happen" he murmured, eyes wide, hands in his hair. Alma was being over dramatic if you ask me, I just said "I was hungry" and I is about to go berserk.

"Wait right here, do not move in any direction, I need to meet with the 'uppers'" he said making a move to leave me. I grabbed his arm.

"Wait, who are the 'uppers'?" He never told me about those.

"The Big guys you met first" he clarified.

My mouth made an 'O' shape. Tugging his hand out of mine, he leaves me.

But the situation involves me, or hunger anyway, why can't I listen? I deserve to know what was happening. I followed him trying to be as discreet as possible.

Luckily he doesn't notice me as he makes his way to the conference room. It was hard to follow him, dodging the flying angels and the fast walking "masculum Servus".

He entered inside, I decided to stand outside and eavesdrop. Coming here reminded of everything I had lost. I swallowed my tears trying to focus on the discussion happening inside. I strained my ears.

"I have something unusual to report, Dominus" I heard him say.

"Before that, I think know why she remembers, but I don't think she should remember, I mean.."

Remember what? I thought..not sure what I remembered. I listened some more.

"The main point?" I think the leader snapped at the one that was talking. Rude I thought.

"Right, sorry, I talked to the Grim, I found out why she remembers, He had made a mistake" he continued, not blabbing this time.

"What do you mean?" The leader asked.

He took a deep breath,

"I mean, the Grim reaper told me, Candace wasn't the soul he was meant to collect, he went for Paige; the girl who was with her at the time of the death, but he made a mistake and ended up collecting Candace instead"

The whole room went silent after, and my head was a mess, I couldn't breathe properly anymore, I clawed at my chest. I wasn't supposed to die, I was meant to live, my chest was heaving, the world was slipping from under my feet. My time hadn't come yet, but someone, something called "the Grim" had made a foolish mistake, that cost me my life, that cost me everything.

I was furious. I pushed the door open and stepped inside, ignoring Alma's look of alarm.

"What the fuck was that I heard?" I asked everyone.

They shared a look.

"Was everything you just said true?" I asked no one in particular, since I didn't know the owner of the voice.

"The Grim sounded really sorry" one of them said, wincing, as if he knew it was useless.

I laughed a humorless laugh. And shouted at the top of my lungs.

"WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?"
