Chapter 2

Almost coincidentally, the bell rang, signifying the end of class, and Ms. Williams cleared her throat, breaking out of the confusion that we were all basking in. "Okay, class..." she trailed off, blinking hard to focus. "Equipment in the sink and then off to your lunch period," she muttered, before slumping back down in her seat and looking at her papers.

"Ms. Williams!" I exclaimed, outraged that she hadn't punished the girl. "She threw a chemical on me, she could have killed me!" I spluttered.

"She knew what she was doing." Ms. Williams chuckled. "That chemical is unharmful." she smirked gesturing to my shirt. "You would have been in trouble if she'd used that one." She explained, pointing to the test tube that was left on the desk. "That's something you would have known if you paid attention in class, and that." She continued, this time pointing at the stain. "Is something that could have been avoided if you had worn a lab coat." She smirked knowingly.

"So she's not going to get in trouble for this?" I asked, as people started to leave the class, still murmuring among themselves.

"I'll deal with her," she smiled. "Now clear up and get out of my class," she chuckled.

Sucking through my teeth in irritation, I scooped up the stuff on our desk, letting the things clatter together as I dumped them in the sink.

"Oh, that was hilarious!" I turned around to face Jason and Corey, rolling my eyes as I saw them still laughing and pushed past them to grab my bags.

I grumbled, before walking out of the class, leaving them jogging up behind me to catch up. They continued to laugh, mocking the scene in the class as I ignored them, still annoyed about the cold liquid on my shirt.

"That was amazing, Zeus." Jason chuckled. "The look on your face when she said she didn't know you." He snorted, nudging Corey. "It was priceless."

"Whatever!" I muttered, pulling my shirt from my chest and looking at the large splash stain on my white shirt. "What am I going to do about this?"

"Why don't you ask one of your girlfriends?" Jason laughed.

"Like you said, every girl loves you!"

They burst into laughter again as I looked away, shaking my head in disbelief. "No, no, it's okay." Jason finally sighed as he finished laughing. "I have a jacket in my locker, you can wear that."

"Thanks!" I muttered, thinking about the incident again. "That girl is psycho." I muttered.

"You should have just stuck with that girl who actually wanted to be your partner." Corey suggested, as we came to Jason's locker and he pulled out a jacket.

"I didn't know who she was." I muttered, as I zipped up the coat. "I thought that she'd be interesting to talk to."

"Was she going to be another one of your conquests?" he asked.

"Why do you sound so annoyed?" I muttered. "It's not like you don't get with girls too."

"Yes, but I actually respect them." He muttered, rolling his eyes as we started to walk towards the cafeteria.

"What are you trying to say?" I asked, starting to get annoyed at his tone.

He shook his head. "You're getting too big for your boots." He sighed.

I opened my mouth to argue, but Corey cut in before I could get there. "Since when did Zeus wear boots?" he asked, genuinely sounding confused.

We walked into the cafeteria meeting the other students all chattering among themselves and eating. "Never mind..." Jason muttered, letting the topic go.

My reputation was of a player, a guy who no one should dare to mess with, and I was proud of it. I didn't care what anyone thought of me, anyone except Jason and Corey. That's why if they were the ones to criticize me. I would become guilty and defensive.

We took our food and headed to our normal table, feeling the hungry eyes of a lot of girls glued to us, but I was only looking for one of them. The best part being I didn't even know her name. I scanned the cafeteria, searching every table carefully, looking to the corners and crannies of the room in attempt to catch a glimpse of her nerdy little figure.

"Where is she?" I growled subconsciously as Jason and Corey turned to look at me.

"Where is who? The girl who doesn't know you?" Corey laughed, making Jason crack up again.

"Shut up, Corey." I hissed as he rubbed his arm, still laughing. Shaking my head, I turned back to the hall, trying to find the mystery girl.

My mind immediately took me to think of the girl from Chemistry, and I found myself realizing that I hadn't even noticed her around the school before. Was she new? Seeming to read my mind, a smirk took over Jason's face and he leaned forward.

"What about Felicity?" He asked.

I looked over at him in bewilderment. "Who's Felicity?" I asked, wrinkling my nose in confusion.

"You really are an egotistic idiot." He muttered. "She's the girl who made your shirt hot pink." He laughed.

"Oh." I murmured. Felicity. The name suited her well.

Corey laughed, shaking his head. "You definitely haven't been with her." He turned to me. "She didn't even know you."

"So?" I muttered. "She's just some random nerd. It's not like I knew who she was either."

"Well, what if we made things interesting?"

"What do you mean?" I asked, setting down the flimsy cutlery.

He smirked and leaned forward. "What if I bet you my bugatti that you couldn't get her."

"Woah! Your Bugatti?" I blurted out. "Why would you do that?"

He shook his head, an unclear emotion hiding behind his eyes. "Who cares why? Will you do it?"

"What are the terms?" I asked. "Is this some sort of a trick?"

"No tricks, all you have to do is get her to agree to agree to go to prom with you, that gives you around three months."

"Then what? What's the hard part?"

"Oh, right." He seemed slightly flustered as he tried to think of something to say. "You dump her in front of the whole school and embarass her."

"I thought you said you respected girls."

He looked to his food, muttering something inaudibly under his breath. "What did you say?" I asked as he turned back up to face me.

"Nothing." He shrugged. "So will you do it?"

"Well is that all?" I scoffed, as he nodded. "All I need to do it get her to be my date to prom, and then dump her in front of everyone?" I checked.

"Yes, that's it."

I chewed on my lip, thinking about it carefully. She was just a nerd, how hard could this be? I stuck my hand out and he raised an eyebrow. "Deal." I confirmed.

"Your time starts now."

I stood up, making sure once more that she definitely wasn't in the cafeteria before shutting my eyes to think about it. "Where do nerds live?" I muttered to myself, trying to think where to go.

"Oh wait!" I suddenly realised, opening my eyes. "The library!" I rushed to the door, leaving the cafeteria and running towards the other end of the school.

I groaned under my breath as I realized that she must be some boring old nerd who was obsessed with books. Getting this done would mean leaving high school with a bang. The final congregation-prom. I could get up and declare my final mission, leaving my reputation behind along with Felicity.

I finally entered the library and looked around, my face screwed up in irritation and distaste. The shelves loomed over me and for the first time, I almost felt intimidated by them. I never thought that collections of paper could be so horrible.

Peering around the empty and abandoned looking place, I started to second guess the fact she may be here,  when I finally caught sight of a hunched up figure in remote corner with a book, and sighed in relief as I saw it was her.

Pulling myself up confidently, I strolled over to her casually, leaning on the table in front of her but she didn't notice me. Sighing deeply, I tried to attract her attention without having to speak, but she didn't even budge.

I leaned down on the table and slammed my hands against it. "Hello?!"
