IV. The Orange Haired Man

Weeks passed like a blink, Lyra finally regained her energy and she can feel her magic power within her but she is still reluctant to show what is her magic. But her decision is final, she will join Scylla's Legion and start a fresh life. Just like what his teacher requested before he died in front of her eyes.

"Oi." Lyra looked up at the one who called her. It was a woman who has blonde hair.

"Can I help you?" Lyra asked in a calm tone, based on the mark at the back of her hand. She is a member of this guild.

"I'm Constance, you are?" She asked and walked towards her.

"Lyra." Lyra mumbled and Constance nodded in that knowledge. "Well, nice to meet you. Looking forward to seeing you every day here." She said.

Julian walked in and looked at Constance. "Con? what are you doing here?" He asked in confusion, and that made Constance smile at him.

"Nothing, just making friends. It's been a while since a new female member joined." Constance reasoned, Julian smirked and nodded in agreement.

"Yup, you're right and also, This is the first time that Master will do an initiation fight." The black-haired man informed.

"Really? that's odd."

"I know, right?"

"Uhm... is it really the first time?" Lyra butted in. The two looked at her and nodded.

"Unlike in the other guilds, Master didn't allow initiation fights here in Scylla's Legion every time a new mage will join. He said that even if you're a weak or strong mage, you deserve a place in a guild." Julian explained.

"Man, that's touching." Constance commented, copying his father's words.

"Yup, but I'm still puzzled until now." He said and put a hand under his chin and thought.

"Does Master didn't tell you anything? You are his secretary." Constance asked, and that made Julian scratch his head.

"Nope, he told nothing." Julian answered, and that made her sigh and thought again.

Lyra looked at the black-haired man. "Is it a bad thing?" She asked.

"Not at all missy, in fact. We can tell immediately if you are a silver, gold or diamond class of mage, if you are strong then you must be a ruby or quartz class mage." He said while his forefinger is in the air.

"Uh... I don't understand." Lyra muttered and scratched her head.

"In Scylla's legion, we have a classification of mages. Silver is the lowest or the beginners level, Gold is the intermediate, then Diamond is the highest. About the Ruby and Quartz class mage, you still need to do some tests before Master approves." Julian explained, and Lyra nodded on that fresh information.

What an amazing guild, Krox. Lyra thought.

"Aha!" Constance suddenly said, and because of that, Julian and Lyra looked at her. A smirked appeared in her face and that made the man's forehead furrowed.

"I don't like that smirk, Con." He informed.

"I think I know why the Master will do an initiation fight." She said and pulled Julian towards her and whispered in his ear. Later on, a smirk also appeared on Julian's face, just like Constance.

Lyra watched them like a child who's watching their parents.

"You're a brilliant one! As expected from a child of a second-generation member!" Julian exclaimed, and that made Constance roll her eyes.

"Don't mention it." She said and looked at Lyra. "Lyra, whoever will challenge to fight you. Don't hold back, okay?" She asked.

"O-okay." Lyra muttered, and that made her smile.

"Bueno, I'll be waiting in the backyard. See you there." She said and walked towards the door.

"Missy, your clothes are on the sofa. Change now because you will start your initiation fight later." Kadge said and smiled.

Lyra stood up from the bed and looked at the dress on the sofa. It was so pretty. She thought.

"Beautiful isn't it? I figured that it will suit you." Julian said when she caught her looking at the dress he bought awhile ago.

"Y-you bought this?" Lyra asked and looked at the dress.

"Yup, Master told me so." He answered. "Hurry up missy, everyone is waiting for you." He said as she pushed Lyra towards the bathroom.

"This way." The black-haired man lead Lyra to the backyard. As he opened the door murmurs started between the Scylla's Legion members who will watch the fight.

"Silence!" Zadavik muttered, and that silenced all the audience. "We are here to witness an initiation fight. First, let me introduce you to our soon to be a member, Lyra Hamilton!" Zadavik said and everyone cheered and clapped their hands.

"Don't be overwhelmed missy, that is their normal routine." Julian whispered in her ear.

"She will be our member as soon as she defeats--"

"I WILL FIGHT! I WILL FIGHT!" all the attention turned to the orange-haired man. The bird in his shoulder flew and landed on Zadavik's side.

"Jer? I thought you are on the job?" Zadavik asked as Jer reached him.

"I'm done." Jer said and smiled. "So, who will fight me?" Jer asked.

"Jer, you can't just--" Julian said, but he was cut off.

"Is that you?" Jer asked Lyra, who's standing beside Julian.

Lyra stared back at him. "Yeah." Lyra answered.

Jer grinned and move his hand, saying that she should walk towards him. "Let's start."

"Jer! you idiot! Master is still speaking." Felix interjected.

"Meh, I'm sure he will choose me. Right old man?" Jer asked and looked at Zadavik, Zadavik just sighed.

"Lyra, is it you okay that he will be your opponent?" Zadavik asked.

Lyra looked at him and nodded. Murmurs and cheers started again on the background. Jer saw Lyra's answer, and that excites him more.

"All right! Let's go!" Jer yelled and get into his position.

"He is persistent." Lyra said in a monotone voice.

"Yup, he is." Julian answered as Lyra stepped forward.

"Go Lyra!" Constance cheered.

"Hey! you must cheer on me!" Jer commented.

"This is not a tournament, you dumb nuts!" Ruh screamed back, and that made Lyra chuckled.

She can tell that the bond of this guild is different on so many levels.

I can't wait to be a part of this guild. She thought as she gets into his fighting stance.

"The lobby is silent, now I know why." Steldarts commented as he sat beside Zadavik on the second-floor terrace. "She's already healed?" He asked.

"Yes, thanks to the healer who visited days ago." Zadavik answered and crossed his arms.

"Man, this will be fun. It's been a while since we watched an actual fight. Who's your bet?" Percival asked as he sat on the other side of Zadavik.

"This is not a boxing fight, you moron, sto--" Steldarts lectured, but he stopped when he saw Zadavik placing a 100 Vinala on Percival's hand and grinned.

"I'll bet on Lyra." Zadavik whispered then grinned. "How about you?" He asked Steldarts who is looking at them in disbelief.

H-he is the head, right? Steldarts asked in his mind while looking at the two.

Lyra studied Jer's posture and tried to find some open spot to hit on, just like what Krox taught her, but unfortunately, she found nothing. She huffed as Jer provoked her again and grinned.

I bet this man is reckless. Lyra thought.

She dodges Jer's swift punch, but it didn't end there; the punch followed by another couple of punches but since Lyra is trained at any speed. She effortlessly dodges his attack.

"Dragon's breath!" Jer screamed and flames came out from his mouth, Lyra was shocked at first but immediately wrapped her forearm in her magic. The flame disappeared when it hit Lyra's forearm and that left everyone in shock, including Jer.

"A-a dark magic!" Jer asked and later on he grinned. He put his fist into his palm and it produces fire. "This is interesting." He commented.

"Are you afraid...Jer?" She taunted and everyone gasped, Jer's eyes squinted at her.

"What did you just say?" Jer asked and Lyra smirked.

"You heard me." She answered.

"You heard her dumbass!" Felix commented and everyone snickered.

"I'm not talking to you, mushy brain!" Jer screamed back before looking back at Lyra and charged at her with his flaming fist, Lyra didn't move and fisted her hands as dark magic surrounded her fist.

Jer jumped and the flame in his fist increased, Lyra put her right foot in front and she stopped Jer's fiery fist using her fist. Everyone in the audience gasped and cheered at the sight. Including Percival and Zadavik, who's watching on the second-floor terrace.

After that, a fast exchange of punches happened. The audience can only see some fire and dark sparks every time they hit into each other, their movements are so fast for a naked eye to be seen.

Lyra finally found an open spot. She smirked as her adrenaline started. "Dark fist!" She said as a dark magic coated again her fist and punched that open spot in Jer's body. He was sent a few meters away from her, bumping his back in the tree at the process.

"You're really a fighter." Jer commented as he stood up.

"I am." Lyra answered.

"And I am a fighter too." Jer said and charged again at Lyra in speed, but Lyra just dodged him again. She caught his wrist using her left hand and used her right elbow and smashed Jer's face. He wobbled as they separated. He grinned and charged on her again.

"Claw of the fire dragon!" Jer screamed, his nail on his fingers became long and it was surrounded by fire again.

Lyra caught that hand using her two hands, Jer's eyes widened in shock when the flames in his hand disappeared and turned into smoke again. Then, she kicked his side, and that sent him towards the audience. Thankfully, someone cast a shield spell around them so we will harm no one in the audience.

The black-haired woman turned to Jer, who is slowly standing up. She propped up her forefinger and middle finger in both hands, then positioned it in an 'x' position. "Dark Cloaked Slash!" She said and separate her two hands in 'x' motion with a force.

An 'x' shadow formed, and it hit Jer's body, because of that his back bumped into the shield spell.

"Fire dragon's roar!" Jer screamed, and an amplified flame came out from his mouth again.

Lyra put her hands in front of her. "Dark Shield!" a shadow wall appeared in front of her and that successfully protected her from the roar of fire. When that shield disappeared, Jer immediately jumped and attempted to attack Lyra, but she just opened her hand and a ball of dark magic came out from it.

It entered Jer's body. "Dark Nebula." Lyra muttered and Jer screamed in pain when he felt something explode inside him.

She sighed as she looked at his unconscious body fell on the ground. Julian immediately run towards him and checked the orange haired man.

"Jer is unconscious! Lyra wins!" He declared. Everyone cheered and the three old men on the terrace stood up and clapped their hands.

Which confused Lyra. I hurt their comrade. Why are they cheering?

"You did well, Lyra." She looked at Felix and he immediately noticed her reaction. "What's wrong?" He asked.

"I...hurt him...is it all right with you?" She asked, and Felix chuckled.

"That idiot deserve it." He answered as they both looked at Jer. Lyra walked towards him and crouched, then she placed her hand on his chest for a minute, heat travelled from Lyra's hands towards Jer's chest before she removed it. "What did you do?" Julian asked when he saw it, Lyra smiled at him.

"I healed him, he will wake up as soon as--"

"What happened!" Jer screamed and got up immediately. Since Lyra is near at him, their forehead bumped into each other. Thankfully, Felix caught Lyra before she sat on the ground.

"Ow..." Lyra muttered and holds her forehead.

"You dumbass, be careful!" Felix scolded. "Are you okay, Lyra?" He asked and Lyra nodded.

"Hello, I'm the one who's hit by an unexplainable bomb magic and it still hurts. I should be the one you will ask." Jer deadpanned.

"I'm sorry about that." Lyra said politely.

Jer looked at her and blinked his eyes for many times before giving her a wide smile.

"That's okay, it's just. It shocked me." Jer said and looked at his hand that now turned back normal unlike a while ago. "That is the first time that someone stopped my claw." He muttered.

"Then you need to train more Jer." The bird chirped and Lyra's eyes widened.

"The bird can talk!" She asked in shock, and that made everyone laughed.

"This is Zore, my best bud." Jer introduced. "And I'm Jer nice to meet you, Lyra." He said and offered his hand.

Lyra laughed lightly and took his hand. "Nice to meet you, Jer and Zore." She said.

"Should I say welcome to the guild?" Julian asked and everyone agreed. Lyra laughed as they stand up from the grassy ground and walked towards the lobby of the guild.

~

"I guess your hunch is right." Julian said as he placed a teacup in front of Ruh. "That Master only allowed the initiation fight so that someone can beat Jer because Zinde is not here."

"But I heard that she will come back soon" Constance said and drank the tea from that teacup. "Finally, after 3 years." She said, and that made Julian smile.

"Yep, finally." He answered while drying the glass.
