October's Curse

Untitled

Ch. 1 Dreaming

" October is near " he said as he sat near his brother who was peacefully enjoying the view. The sun setting as it wraps up the day, it's been long since the both of them had come and watched the sunset, they rarely see each other but they know what is up whenever the other comes home all of a sudden.

" They fought again? " the white haired fellow said with a small sigh, a sad smile on his face.

" Just the usual, you know how childish they can be when it comes to money " the pink haired one responded as he patted the other on the head, ruining his well groomed hair that took him a while for it to look decent. The oldest laughed at his younger's reaction, it's been months since they talked to each other, communication isn't really common in the both of them if they are away for their parents forbid the younger to know more about the other parts of the world, they fear that it would cause rebellion, which will be a pain in the ass to handle on their side. Both stayed at that spot for hours until the cold night breeze greeted them, they had a good talk about the adventures of the oldest, just hiding some details and making some stories, just following their parent's orders, it pains him but there's nothing he can do.

" We should get going, they might go around and look around for us again, you know what happened the last time we went home late. We don't want that to happen again, don't we? " the oldest said as he brushed some dirt off his pants as the other followed, nodding as a response to his brother's question. The lights from the town made their pathway quite visible, giving them enough light to walk through the rocky road but due to the youngest's poor eyesight, it was a struggle to walk through and having no choice but to hold unto the hem of his brother's clothes.

The walk was silent, no one wants to talk as they go near the huge mansion, the inside was dark, no lights were turned on, the fight must've gone far again. The oldest sighed and massaged his temples as he heard distant screams that belongs to their parents. The more October comes near, the more their fights get heated, it's getting hard to understand the both of them and it's harder for the children. Plates breaking, shattered everywhere, expensive paintings now had holes in them, everything is turning into a mess.

" Different day, same shit. God, when will this stop? " The older said as he helped his brother sneak in the back door to avoid his parents from seeing the both of them " I'll distract them, hide in your room for a while, okay? " he added as the other just nodded and smiled. Fixing his posture, he slowly walked away from the back door as soon as his brother went in and was far. Making his way towards the front door, screams louder than before. A butler can be seen impatiently walking back and forth outside the door, probably waiting for him, his face filled with stress as soon as he saw the young master slowly making his way inside.

" Mr. Zyko, where have you been? The whole place has been trashed the moment you walked out of the room " The butler explained as he guided Zyko inside the living room, everything is a mess, the cleaning will be hard.

" This is your fault! "

" Now you're blaming me for something you clearly did! Look at your children, who forced them to live like this? Wasn't it your choice to force them into hiding the truth? "

" Oh shut up, would you? I tried to talk to you but what did you say? That I am selfish. You know how hard this world is, yet you choose not to listen "

" Will the both of you please shut up? " Zyko finally butted in, so done with his parent's childish arguments that lead to nowhere. His blood boiling just by looking at the both of them. Their hair is a mess, clothes wrinkled, shoes nowhere to be found, and voices almost gone. When did they fell out of love? How did this happen? They used to be so happy before. " I am so done with the both of you. I tried to be patient because both of you are my parents yet no matter what I do, they all end up like this! Think about Wartyn, he's just a child yet he hears all this screaming as if it's normal and part of his routine, give the child a break, will you? Open your minds and try to listen, your words sounds like it came from a child that got his doll stolen. I am your child too and think about what I would feel dealing the problem that both of you have created. I know what happened before is unacceptable but if you choose to ignore how to solve it and blame each other then nothing good will happen. " Zyko said, almost screaming, pouring his heart out hoping his parents will realize and reflect on his words, but they just gone silent.

" God, you're both giving me a headache " Zyko said as he sat down the torn couch. A servant handed him some tea as he silently thanked her. None of this would've happen, if only their parents weren't so selfish on fame before and just focused on hard work.

October's curse.

A curse that is long going in their family. He doesn't know the full detail but according to his parents, long ago, before Zyko was born, assassins were everywhere and were after them, their mother feared that it would kill the child so they hired a lot of people to protect them but because of paranoia that someone will kill them one day and steal all their luxury, their mother found an ancient book and made a contract with the devil, it was going good before until Wartyn was born. The devil wanted more and started attacking the family, killing one member at a time every October, the curse can be broken but their father had burned the book long ago causing Zyko to go adventuring and look for a book similar to the old one.

" What day is today? " Their mother asked, massaging her temples

" It's the 30th of September, Madam " a servant replied causing both their parent's eyes to widen, the workers doesn't know about the curse because if it was spread around town, people would suspect of them of some monster and would turn their backs on them.

" What?! Zyko what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be in the other town looking for that? " Their father said

" I've been looking around for it for the past years, give me a break, look for it yourself. Why are you so scared? No one has disappeared the past year. " Zyko complained and finished the tea he was offered, hoping his headache would disappear only for it to go worse because of his parent's loud voices.

" You know what? I'm so tired of this! " Their mother said and made her way upstairs and slammed the door closed in their room.

-

The past few days were silent, both of their parents doesn't talk much to the both of them, not knowing what to do now the Zyko is home in an October, but Zyko doesn't seem to mind, he's done with all the drama and just want to have a peaceful and normal life for once. Wartyn not knowing anything that's happening, too youg to understand about the curse, age gap too big from his brother. The sound of silverware echoing the room no one dares to speak, no one seemed to mind at all.

Warytn wearing his normal pink sweater that Zyko gave him, it's been his favorite thing to wear when he wants to feel safe and secured meanwhile Zyko wearing some random clothing he could find in his room, his fashion not that big to him anymore after all those years of looking of the book, he lost his life to other stuffs.

" Zy! When are you gonna go back to adventuring? " Wartyn asked out of blue, his eyes shining just from the thought of his brother going adventuring again, he always admired him.

" Ty, maybe soon, your birthday is coming soon right? Wanna celebrate it with me? " Zyko offered and Wartyn nodded and continued eating, smile plastered on his face. Their parents wanting to protest but they don't wanna break the child's wish and they trusted the older brother to take care of the youngest.

" I can't wait for my birthday! "

Zyko quickly stood up from his slumber, a nightmare he wished he didn't remember. He regretted that day, he regretted ever going home that time, he just wished he disappeared instead of Wartyn. He looked out of the window, the moon shining brighter than ever, October is near, years had passed, he still couldn't forget it. He ran his hand on his pink hair. The search for his younger brother, he won't give up. Tears falling down from his eyes, it won't stop.

" Fuck, if only I held him tight that night this wouldn't have happened " he said as he started pulling his hair out of frustration. He stood up and made his way to the bathroom, only seeing himself in a very messy situation. He hated himself because of that day, he blamed his parents for the curse, he blamed everyone. He lost the only person he called family.

Not knowing what to do anymore, Zyko prepared himself and tried to look around, hoping to see a familiar face. Moving far means lesser people to interact with but without his family's support money, moving around has been hard as he isn't used to be short of money. The town was small and is quiet, well it's only three in the morning so it is acceptable. The howling of wolves can be heard, and the wind is oddly cold for a town with not much trees.

" I guess October is scary here too. " Zyko said to himself and kicked some rocks.

" I've been around here for months now but this is the first time that I'll be staying her in October, I hope nothing bad happens again. " He said, kicking more rocks. The wind getting colder than ever, the howling seemed to stop though, suddenly, church bells started to sound, scaring the shit out of Zyko. This is the first time also that he heard the church bells at three am. Getting curious, he followed the sound and peeked through the window.

People in odd clothing everywhere. He could fit in perfectly but he doesn't want to because it might be a trap.

" Potestatem habet vocare. In hoc mundo incognito, A pluvioso nos defende caelo. Wartyn. " The leader said, more like chanting. Zyko was about to walked away but he suddenly heard his brother's name. His curiosity growing bigger, he wondered. He wondered how his brother's name was known by these people, as far as he knew, their names were one of a kind, given by their grandparents. Zyko slowly made his way closer to another window, where the leader's face could be seen but sadly, the dark room made it hard to know who are they nd suddenly, all of them started bowing in front some pile of flowers, lily stargazer flowers to be exact, Wartyn's favorite.

Who are they?
