Chapter Eight

The Kamu Started with the group of women hitting the calabash with sticks in a rhythm and it gave a pleasant Music.

The entire place was set up like the olden days but with elegance and the traditional Arewa Kamu Decoration never looked better.

The area was organized with each canopy having its own guests and their tables and the middle of the venue has a very elegant Canopy which has been decorated more than the others for the brides.

Their sisters and friends were wearing a traditional atampa known as Mai tabirma And paired it off with a white veil.

The event was taking place in ome of the gardens they rented so that it can occupy both brides guests and both the grooms family.

"Where is Ya Amira?" Zarah asked after getting her makeup done "I want to snap pictures with her" All the girls in the room responded in the negative saying they have not seen her since her makeup started.

Unknown to them, Amira was dressed and ready for the event but was busy with her phone.

Sha'ir: People always say Lol after saying something serious to lessen the tension.

Unbothered : Whatever Mr.

Sha'ir : I won't lie, I am still tired. I will probably sleep and talk to you later.

Unbothered : Okay, I am also a bit busy with the Kamu.

Sha'ir: Well Have fun, but not too much fun. I don't want my baby to get tired

Unbothered : Your Baby? Lol

Sha'ir : You see, You just Said the Lol after a serious question and Yes you're my baby, You don't have a say in that.

Unbothered : Go And Talk with other girls...Byeee

Sha'ir: People are dying to talk to me and you have me all to yourself yet you're chasing me! I am heartbroken.

Unbothered : Hmmmmmm

Sha'ir: Yessss

Unbothered : Hmmmmmm

Sha'ir: What do you want to say? Say it Baby.

Unbothered : I ... you

Sha'ir: You ... me

Unbothered I don't believe you!

Sha'ir : Oh please! We both know what you want to say.

Unbothered : Go And sleep, I have to attend the ceremony. Talk to you later.

She went offline , Her mood cheered up after talking to Sha'ir. It's been days since she last spoke to him because she has been very busy and doesn't have time to catch up with him.

Shortly, Ihsan Joined her in the room using the door that was linking the two rooms, the other one where their bridal makeup took place.

"Why are you smiling this much?" Ihsan checked out her outfit and unplugged her phone from charging.

"No reason, Are we leaving now?"

Ihsan snapped few pictures of herself and snapped Amira too and joined her on the couch "Yeah we're leaving in five minutes I guess. Now, answer my question, why were you smiling?"

"I can't smile without a reason again?" Ihsan nodded making Amira to bait her eyes at her "I can't even breath the same air with you. You're like a detective!"

"Well I know when something is off" She shrugged posting some of the event pics she has on her phone since she was too busy to post them earlier "So what's up with you?" She kept her phone ready to listen to Amira when the door was barged open and Sa'a rushed into the room.

"Did Yasmin come here?" She asked worriedly looking disturbed .

"No, what happened" Both Amira and Ihsan chorused.

"Dada and her had a talk" Sa'ada emphasizes and left the room. Amira and Ihsan stared at Each other knowing clearly what it means for you to have a Talk with Dada.

She arrived in Abuja today but has already started causing Havoc, Amira thought. Her and Ihsan are yet to meet her but will be seeing her at the Kamu as that's the only event she deemed worthy of attending and didn't come from Kano earlier.

"Call Zarah please, I forgot when last I recharged my phone" Amira pleaded trying to not break down "Where the hell will Yasmin go to?".

Ihsan hurriedly Called Zarah and told her to come to the room they were in and continued calming Amira down despite her being worried too.

They all knew Dada, Her strictness is nothing compared to her hurtful talks which she doesn't care who it will go to but what Ihsan could not comprehend is why Dada will have a talk with Yasmin, who didn't even say a word when her engagement was brought up and she willingly accept unlike her and Amira who did one thing or the other.

Yasmin was the quiet obedient Type and when Dada said she should change the course that she wanted to study at the beginning which was engineering to another course  because she thinks it's too masculine, she didn't object and gave in to her grandmother's order.

"You know her Ihsan, She will rather die than  talk up against anything done to her especially by Dada" Amira quivered "Why is it that Dada is hell bent on making our lives miserable? She knows Yasmin and how she is! Why is she still doing this to her for God's sake".

"Just calm down, we don't know what happened as of yet, And Dada won't try anything stupid until our weddings pass. She won't try anything to spoil it in order to uphold the Family's reputation"

Zarah  came inside dressed in her Mai Tabirma with her makeup enhancing her beautiful features "Ya Amira! I have been looking for you up and down" She said removing her phone from her mini bag "I want to snap pictures with you before the photographer does it for us" She noticed Amira's eyes were red and how dull Ihsan and her looked.

"What happened?" She questioned keeping her phone back "Is something wrong?"

"Zarah, Go And Tell Everyone to leave for the event center. Call Khalid and tell him to get cars that will take all our friends there and after that Look for Yasmin anywhere in this house" Amira rasped Out untying her head gear "Ihsan, Just go at least one bride will be there".

Ihsan refuses but Amira convinced her to go before she agreed and left along with their friends and the wedding guests while Zarah and Sa'a looked for Yasmin since Amira can't move around the house because of the elders present.

"Just call Ya Ahmad, She's in no condition to talk to anyone or explain" Amira said holding her sister who was sobbing tightly on her chest "Be fast And call Sa'ada while you're at it too" Zarah nodded already searching for her brother in law's contact number and went to a corner of Amira's room.

After endless searching, Amira found Yasmin in the most unexpected place in the House, Their father's study where she was crying and for the past Ten Minutes, Amira has been trying to calm her down.

Sa'ada came into the room looking distraught from searching for her closest cousin who supported her at each step she took. She signaled Zarah and Amira to give them space and Amira reluctantly left knowing Sa'a will handle the situation.

Amir felt her hands dragged by Her Maternal Aunt, Farida in fury taking her to a corner.

"Are you mad? Why didn't you attend the Kamu? Your mother is now facing your grandmother's wrath thanks to you"Aunty Farida scolded making Amira to squirm realizing what her action might have caused.

She didn't utter a word and stood there listening to her Aunt who kept on reprimanding her before she noticed Amira was silent all through out, Something she never does because even if she was wrong, Amira will try to defend herself before giving up.

"What happened? Is something wrong?" Aunty Farida questioned in a perpetually tired voice due to silent screaming at Amira for minutes.

"Where's Yasmin?" Ahmad interrupted them greeting Aunty Farida after he noticed her presence.

"She's with Sa'ada in my room"He nodded before going to the direction of Amira's room making Aunty Farida puzzled.

"What is happening? What is wrong with Yasmin"

"We don't know, She had a talk with Dada" Amira sighed seeing Aunty Farida gasp, Everyone already knows what results if you have a talk with Dada.

Amira excused herself and went to their mother's room where she got undressed of the heavy Komole she was wearing and wore one of her mother's Abaya.

She knew Dada will definitely come for her for not attending her own Kamu and how she wants to make the Danbatta's the talk of the town.

She rummaged the room for her phone which has been with her mother for a day now and finally found it fully charged in one of the drawers.

Going Online on Instagram, The first thing that flooded her timeline was Their engagement pictures with the caption The Baba Diyas  and Danbattas are getting hitched.

She checked and saw pictures some with funny captions like "Most Eligible bachelor brothers, Tahir and Mubarak are off the market". She noticed a notification on her Dm and smiled upon seeing Sha'ir message.

Sha'ir: How are you doing with ignoring me?

Unbothered : I didn't ignore you, it was the other way around!

Sha'ir: You know it wasn't...Anywheres How're you?

Unbothered : Trust me, My life has been hectic! What about you?

Sha'ir: Well, I am just here.

Unbothered : That's not an answer you know, Tell me more.

Sha'ir : Have you ever wondered what kind of poem you will be if you were one?

Unbothered : Off the topic question but no, I am not a poetry type. What about you? What kind of poem will you be if you were one?

Sha'ir: If I was a poem, I will be the type that send jolts to your body whenever you read one,Curling up to the tip of your foot as you consume my simplicity and uniqueness.

Wondering how one poem can be so indulging and attention seeking.I will be the kind of poem you can't resist reading even if you're not a fan,You will brush your fingers across the old  papers slowly with care and affection.

Word by word you will hold every feature of mine in your heart. If I was a poem, I won't be the boring old romance or the historic one sided love,I will talk about the lands far away where true love lies without boundaries or conditions .You will travel across the ocean just to have a look at me. And only if I was a poem, I will be heart touching in such a way you can't resist,Just like how the stars in the night dance beside the moon. I will be the star that will sparkle to brighten your life.

Before Amira could reply, She winced feeling a sharp pain on her cheek as a result of the Slap she got from Dada who was glaring at her in anger with her mother and Farida standing behind her.

Her eyes got blinded by the tears and she kept the phone on the bed. She wiped away her tears using both her hands before Dada started yelling.

"You think you will ruin our reputation and just go scot free? Your own Kamu! You refused to attend your own and for what stupid reason, Your sister went missing?" Amira wondered how she is so energetic and loud despite her old age instead of focusing on her rants.

She didn't respond or meet her grandmother's eyes who kept yelling and she met her mother's eyes who told her not to talk back. Amira resisted the urge to reply Dada when she started blaming their mother for not bringing them up right.

"Why didn't you come and teach us the manners?" She blurted and she felt another stinking pain on her cheeks.

Her eyes were blurry from the tears which she allowed to flow freely as she met the gaze of her father who just slapped her for disrespecting his mother.

She felt herself being dragged out of the room by Farida with her father roaring for her to be taken away from his sight before he does something he will regret while her mother tried to soothe him down.

She heard Dada muttering something about how disrespectful she is and lack manners but blocked it out and followed Farida who took her to her room and gave her space.

Amira allowed the tears to cascade down her cheeks and She cried her heart out for herself, for the sacred bond she is about to start, for her mental health and lastly for losing her first true love before she even knew who he is.
