PROTECTED BY THE MAFIA

PROLOGUE

AUTHOR'S POV

Aelin had been standing at the same place, frozen in time.
She couldn't move or even utter a word, looking down at the file in her hands.

She was standing in front of a huge luxurious office desk.
The room looked like a study room with a desk in the center, sofa sets in one corner of the room and a door to a huge library at one side. The walls of the room were black and red giving it an eery vibe.

What she was looking at, had turned her life upside down, in just one second.

She would have never imagined, that such horrendous secrets were hidden from her eyes.

She would have never imagined, that all she knew was all a big ugly lie.

She had been living in illusion, that he was keeping her safe, but she didn't know, that she had been trusting a person, whom she should have hated from the start.

A silent tear of cold anger slid down her cheek. How can she end up like this? Regret, Hate and Disgust filled up her heart.

The file from her hand dropped down, as she jumped up on her place, hearing the door of the study room opening behind her.
Her heart was ready to beat out of her chest in fear. He had caught her red handed.

Scared, she looked down at all the pictures and documents from the file, scattered all over the floor. Slowly she turned around, still following the scattered papers, when her eyes landed on black shining shoes. The shoes screamed money.

Gulping down her saliva, her eyes slowly roamed the body of the intruder and stopped at his face, which held seriousness, staring at the pictures on the floor.

As he looked up at her with a serious look on his face, Aelin stumbled back on her feet. His eyes had turned red with an unfamiliar emotion.

Aelin knew, that she was doomed the moment his eyes met her's. Firmly, he stepped forward and she took a step back, which failed due to the wall behind her.

She was trapped.

Once again.

Like always.

Tears started flowing her eyes, finding herself unable to look away from him.
How could he do this to her?

But again, he was a monster and he could do anything to her.

Sniffing slightly, her eyes filled up with the hurt, she was feeling.

Amused, a smirk stretched upon his face and he advanced towards her.
Stopping just inches away, he raised his hand and scooted a tear away from her face.

“ You were not supposed to know just yet, Ma poupée!
” His voice was deep, matching the aura of the power, he held.

Aelin sniffed again, as more tears flowed out of her eyes.

A hand sneaked around her waist and pulled her closer, making her gasp out in fear and disgust.

“ You k-killed my brother!
” Whispering weakly, tears streamed down her soft neck. There was everything in her voice, but most prominent emotion was hurt, that she felt from his betrayal.

Shaking his head, he chuckled out, making Aelin feel more disgusted by him. She had discovered everything today and her most asked question ' Why was he protecting her? ' was answered too, but the answer turned out to be something, she would have never imagined.

That's why people say, that Ignorance is bliss. She had realized today...That Ignorance was truly bliss.

The pain tearing her heart apart, was making her agree to it.

Leaning closer, he sighed heavily in the crook of her milky soft neck.
Despite not wanting to, she couldn't stop herself from closing her eyes in reflex. Having him so close, was doing things to her, that she was going to hate forever.

She hated the fact, that she was not able to resist him even after finding out everything.

Aelin was pushed against the wall, trapped in his arms, as he sniffed her hairs, making her heart go wild.
Tears were streaming down her closed eyes and a lump was formed in her throat, which was preventing her to say anything anymore.

“ Protecting people is not...
what I do, Cucciola! ” He whispered in her ear and took her ear lobe between his teeths, biting it harshly, drawing out blood, that trickled down his lips.

A hiss of pain left her mouth at his brutality and she found herself unconsciously grabbing his arms.

“ But I will protect you! ” Chuckling out, he got away from her; meaningfully.

She knew the meaning behind his words now and she had never hated anything more than this.

More than him...
