Behind The Mask

"You're kidding me right now... right? Tell me you really didn't go through that shitty plan of yours! Jesus Christ, tell me you're freaking joking!" Mia exclaimed after learning that her cousins had kidnapped someone from Henry Bouchard's family with the intention of doing the awful things that Ambrose went thru.

"How low can you go, Andrew?!" She yelped at the man who's staring into an empty space. Anthony suddenly cracked a laughter but held it back immediately when Mia darted death glares at him, pursing his lips inwards as he sits at the corner while his cousin continues to prosecute both of them. His gaze then turned to his older brother, worrying with the sudden silence from him. After that evening, he just shut himself from the rest of them.

"Mia, I called you out here to help us to take care of the girl. Andrew doesn't seem to want to go through the original plan anymore... but since she's now our captive, we can just take advantage of the situation." Anthony muttered.

"I am not gonna help you hurt someone!" The girl refused strongly.

"No one will hurt her... I'm going to take her back." Andrew finally spoke softly after all that excruciating silence, but kept staring at nothing.

"What? No! After all we did just to get in there? Okay! no one will hurt her but, we can just blackmail Henry Bouchard. This is our only chance of saving Ambrose's name out of humiliation! We are doing this for him! If they won't go through what we've gone through then they should at least take back the shame they put our brother in!" Anthony protested strongly.

Mia was silenced with his words. She was also hurt and mad but never did she planned nor prayed for the worse to happen to the perpetrators. She thought that wishing the enemy all hell is the same as doing it. All that she wanted was justice, but not in the way her cousin's planned to.

However, for once, she agrees with Anthony. Now that they had Henry Bouchard's daughter, they can use her against him to even at least clear Ambrose's name.

Ella woke up with the rays of the sun peeking through the window. And along with it was the soreness of last night's events. Her throat feels parched and her lips are dried. The pain hasn't left and is much felt now as it is from last night as she remained on the same cursed place and still tightly bound on the bed.

She looked around to see if anyone is in the room and when she found out she was alone, she started pulling her wrists again.

But as she struggles within the bound, the door opened, making her flinch and darting her gaze at the door which only revealed a beautiful woman, holding a tray with the delicious aroma of what she quickly imagined could be breakfast.

The woman hastened to her bed and quickly untied her wrists while whispering, "I'm so sorry..."

As soon as bound was untied, Chaeyoung scurried over the corner of the bed by the wall and curled herself in defense of what this beauty might do to her for beauty has fooled her once.

"Please don't be afraid of me, I'm here to help you. And to apologize for what my cou--" Jisoo trailed off with her words as her eyes were taken by the stains of drying blood upon the bedsheet. And when she looked at the girl's dress, she felt the shame for his cousins and pity for this girl at the same time.

Mia really couldn't believe it at first but this girl is the proof that Anthony wasn't kidding when he told her what they had planned, and Andrew did break this girl.

Ella stared at the woman's pained expression while looking at the blood upon the bed. And as she stares at this unknown beauty's gaze, it reminded her of the visual proof of last night's sin.

The blood was the proof if his invasion, along with the soreness and pain she still feels.

This girl is beautiful... but is she the same as Andrew?

"I... I know what my cousin did is unforgivable... But I promise you, no one will harm even a strand of your hair as long as I'm here." Mia says, feeling her tears form as she looks at the terrified girl, curling like a fetus, frightened of even her.

Ella then satres at Mia in utter confusion as this girl's tears fall, curious why this girl is crying.

She knows what sympathy is but in the kind of life she had lived, she doubts if anyone could still feel sympathetic.

All the people she knew where either numb or cruel.

"You're his cousin?" Ella asked in a whisper and Mia responded with a gentle nod before introducing herself, smiling and even climbing the bed to get close to her and give the poor girl some comfort after untying her from her bounds,

"What are they planning to do with me?" Ella asks, avoiding the woman's pitiful gaze.

"Whatever shit they have planned, it's not gonna happen. I'm here now. I won't let anyone touch--"

"I'm not gonna be fazed with words anymore..." Ella cut her off, hiding her face behind her arms and knees at the corner of the bed.

"I understand you. But trust me, if it'll be the last time you'll put your trust in someone. I know it's hard to give your trust this kind of situation but please, protecting you from my cousins is the least I can do after what they did." Mia stated, true to her words, determined to protect this girl whom her family had hurt.

"But you'll keep me locked here... right?" Ella asked which had Mia silenced.

"What do you want from me?"

----

They were both startled when the door banged open and came in Mia who's blazing in anger, "YOU IDIOTS!"

She stomped her way towards the surprised brothers. The shorter one flinches and the taller expresses both confusion and already exhaustion for yet another hour pr two of hearing their cousin's voice.

"W-what? What happened? Why are you mad again?" Anthony stammers surprised yet confused

"Don't you guys know what Katy Bouchard looked like?!" She questioned, slapping the table with her palm.

"Heh? What do you mean? She's our hostage... Ain't she?" Anthony asked.

Andrew stood from his chair, browse all furrowed and was confused even more with her question.

They were certain that the Katy Bouchard is the person they took because one of the servants said so, even pointing at her. She stood beside her father and she was the only one looking delicately pampered amongst everyone there.

However, Ella is standing next to Katy and they all thought that Katy was Ella.

But the way his cousin reacted, Andrew knew they kidnapped someone else.

"Her name..." Mia trails off momentarily with a sigh before revealing, "her name is Ella."

"Who is she?" Anthony asked, tilting his head in confusion.

"Andrew? You never asked her name?" Mia asked which received a soft shake of the head from the older guy in response who clearly showed his frustration in his expression as he now rub his face with both hands.

Why didn't he ask for her name... and now that he's recalling it, someone called Ella that night they were in the pool. He just thought whoever that was must be calling for everyone in the family.

Andrew was so sure Ella was Katy. Who else would fit the description of a princess than Ella? But now that he thinks about it, Ella is more of an angel than a princess.

"Well, she isn't Katy. Maybe that's why she's also so distraught... you never asked for even her name to think that you lured her into this." Mia added under her breath which Jimin heard.

"Well, who wouldn't be distraught after getting raped. Wait... wait... hold up... So you mean to say we got the wrong girl? Who is she then? why was she standing beside Henry Bouchard?" Anthony asked, eyes even widening. He was there too when she stood beside those people and he also thought that Ella is the person they came there for.

"Well, do you remember the news about Henry's sister who got disowned after she eloped with their servant?" Mia stated as she crosses her arms and sighed after asking.

"Avery Bouchard," Andrew answered, muttering.

"She's Ella's mother. Technically, Ella belonged to the head family, but when their mother was disowned, she now attends to the family's princess which is Katy... You know the news about Avery and her lover, right?"

Both guys nodded before Andrew decided to sit once again, covering his whole face with both his hands in frustration once again, but most of all, guilt, "I took the wrong girl... and I also raped her." He muttered very softly.

What's worse is that they have planned to do exactly what had happened to Ambrose. If the angel had not tapped into Andrew's conscience, who knows what could she have gone through...

"Look... we all thought she was Katy. Well, she's the prettiest so..." Anthony shrugs. "So, are you mad because we brought the wrong girl?" He then smirks at Mia who then immediately shoots him death glares.

"I'm not mad. I'm very mad about all this! You should be ashamed of yourselves!" She yelled but after breathing deeply,

"But..." she sighs, "What she knows about her parents is that they got into a car accident... Ella doesn't know the truth... they've hidden the truth to her. I don't think she knows who Avery Bouchard is to her. I haven't told her anything yet but I asked for her help about Ambrose..." Mia trails off as she shakes her head with a soft smile of hope upon her lips, " I hate to agree with Anthony... but we can really use her to blackmail Henry. If it'll be the only way to clear up Ambrose's name."

"Wow, you agreed with me for once... that's a first... actually that's considered an accomplishment for me." Anthony chuckles, resting his feet above his brother's table with both arms crossed.

But Anthony continues, "However... She's a nobody... do you expect Henry to agree with any of our terms if we use her against him. If we got Katy then we had a chance."

"If he doesn't care about Ella then, why didn't he tell her the truth about her parents? And... why did he kept her close? She could be disowned too for all he cares... I'm going to find out why." Mia retorts back with her eyes squinting in curiosity.

Both eyes then turn to Andrew who's been quiet.

"Bro, I know you feel bad for her but... what can we do now? We can at least make use of her while she's here" Anthony says before sighing out loud.

Ever since last night, Andrew wasn't the same.

"We shouldn't have gone there," Andrew answered, muttering softly.

Anthony knew that his brother was able to touch the girl due to the screams he heard from outside that room last night but it stopped. Then comes out Andrew without telling them anything except not to touch her.

Whatever happened inside the room, he wouldn't insist on knowing for never had he seen his older brother expressing his guilt and regret this obviously. There were regrets in the past but, Andrew had never looked so weak and depressed over his regrets.

Andrew mourns for Ambrose but he showed those feelings in the form of anger instead of this act he's showing right now and it's making Anthony worry.

But feeling bad is far from what Andrew is currently feeling.

He's being tormented by his guilt and he could only do it in silence with tears that he tries to hide, even now.

All his thoughts were of her smile that he ruined... she trusted him despite not knowing who he really is. But even upon knowing his name, she did not judge him. She must have known a little about what he did in the past. He is after all her father's nemesis after Andrew's father was out of the picture. She knows who he is and the news about him from her household might have already reached her ears. Nothing about him could be good and admirable for he is the enemy.

Yet, she still wanted to see him again.

"I hope I can see you again, Chanyeol." Her words ring inside his thoughts

She did not care about the name he bears and the family he's from. But he exchanged that kindness with his hatred and desire for vengeance.

He had defiled the only girl who had made him feel at peace... the peace that only took one kiss to be felt.

"Andrew, I brought her here in the main mansion, at the east wing. She can't stay in that rabbit hole. At least, she can feel comfortable in a decent room." Mia said but the man did not respond even if he heard her clearly.

--

Ella soaked herself in the tub filled with the warmth of the water that comforts her body. At least the water does a little ease on the pain she was feeling.

But apart from the sound of the droplets of water that drip from the faucet, her tears join in as it continues to fall.

Mia had shown her kindness but would that pretty face do the same as Andrew did?

Trust is hard to give, given that she's from behind the enemy lines. If she lets her guard down, they might take advantage of her again.

She knew she can't leave... and the real question is, will she be able to leave this place?

Staying for almost two hours, she refused to move. Even if the water has gone cold, she refused to leave this only place that makes her feel numb now. At least the coldness took the pain... even just for a moment.

But despite the cold, her thoughts drifts at that moment where he had asked for a kiss.

He didn't lie when he said he was a sinful man but never did she assume that he would do such a sin to her.

Nevertheless, she could not hate the man, for his actions was brought upon by hatred. She wanted to hate him, but it wasn't what she's feeling.

She only feels the pain of being broken to peices and all she could do is cry for it. All she can do is blame herself for feeling that comfort from a total stranger.

Andrew's emotions cannot justify his actions, but returning it with the same hatred and vengeance will only beget the same.

Ella then closes her eyes and all that she could think of was his face, the moment he took off his mask. But in truth, what she saw was also mask, hiding all his emotions beyond that pretty face..

Time continues to pass until she was snapped from being catatonic when she was called faintly, "Ella? It's me, Mia... I brought you some clothes and stuff to use."

It took a while before she let Mia in. And instantly, Mia knew that she had been crying since she left this girl at the tub, also realizing that it's been hours and she's still drenched within the robe when she laid eyes on the girl dripping wet despite the robe that covered her body.

"You don't need to give me an answer now. I can wait and if you refuse, it's totally fine. It's just that, we need you and we'll be indebted to you for the rest of our lives if you help us." Mia said as she brushes Ella's long, silky locks in front of a mirror.

"But you'll keep me locked here while waiting for my answer," Ella replied, looking down at her hands that are intertwined upon her lap.

"No... you can go out if you want. You can explore the mansion and the grounds. It's pretty old but, it's big so there's a lot of place you can explore... no one will prohibit you from going anywhere." Mia sweetly answered with the obvious enticing tone and a sweet smile.

"Anywhere but not out of here..." Ella retorted in a mutter.

A soft sigh escapes Mia's lips as she nodded gently, "Yeah... until you give us an answer."

Ella then lifts her head up and look at Mia from the mirror in front of them, "If I say no now, will you let me go?"

The girl standing behind her then shook her head, "no... please think about it."

"I have no choice then, do I?" Ella lowers her head once again.

"I'm sorry... but we need you," Mia asks politely.

"What can I possibly do for you when you already know who I am? I don't hold any value to my father." Tears escape her eyes again as she mumbles softly.

"I disagree... he wouldn't keep you close if you're not important to him so please, think about it. I know it's too much to ask given what my cousin did to you. But I'll keep my promise. I'll keep you safe in this place. I'll make you feel like you're just in a sleepover. So, can I accompany you here tonight? Can I sleepover?" Mia asked, smiling prettily which had forced a soft smile on Ella's lips before nodding.

Despite Mia's transparent agenda, the friendship that she wanted to make with Ella is genuine. But the girl is having a hard time finding the sincerity after everything she went through.

After all, all the good things seem to be good only in the begginning.

Until it becomes a lie as the mask falls off.
