The Fepiralan

The Fepiralan

It was the year 479 AD, three years after a state called Ghamenai regained freedom from the Romans' invasion. During the invasion, the Romans had taken all the resources, and had left the Ghamenains with almost nothing to survive on. Just when Ghamenai thought it was making good progress, many citizens went missing mysteriously without a trace. The governor of Ghamenai had tried everything to unravel the mystery, but to no avail.

Black glistening hair sailed through the air as a young, vibrant girl danced around in the kitchen. The girl, Lydia, had already washed the clothes, cleaned all the five humongous quarters, plus the living room and dining room. The only remaining chore was doing the dishes, and then she would have been free for the rest of the day. Lydia was washing the dishes when she felt a hand on her shoulder. She screamed and jumped about five feet into the air before she turned around, only to find her friends laughing at her. After the laughter died down, she was asked whether she wanted to go for an adventure with the friends. Lydia agreed, but only after they helped her finish her chores.

And off they went to explore. What Lydia did not know was that the adventure was to a dead governor's haunted house. It reeked of dried blood and torment. The scent could be smelled from miles away. Splattered across the floor were bloody bones, body parts, and half eaten carcasses. They saw similar sights in every room they looked. One of Lydia's friend was the first to hear inhuman sounds. The further into the mansion they went, the louder the sounds became. They found a corner as they tried to cautiously stride through the eerie building. Being the infront of the everyone in the group, Lydia rounded the corner only to see a scary monster-looking creature, the Fepiralan. There it was, hunched over what seemed to be its dinner. It snapped its head to glare at them as if sensing their presence.

Silence, uttermost silence. It was like the beast and the humans were doing a staring competition.

The Fepiralan's body was a portrayal of two extreme contrasts: supreme beauty and horror. Its face was human with a hungry expression except its green bush viper eyes, which unblinkingly stared. Its neck was almost as long as a baby giraffe's neck, but was covered with alligator scales. Two colossal atramentous vulture-like wings sprouted from the hairy back of the Fepiralan with two tiny, bone-cutting horns on each wing. The Fepiralan stood on two feline legs. The beautiful yet horrifying body of the beast made the humans tremor.

Hunger from the beast and fear from the humans thickened the air. Then in a flash, it stood there before Lydia. An inhuman growl snapped them from their daze and sent them all speeding through the mansion. Once they were out, Lydia and her friends raced toward the city. The Fepiralan killed anything in its path. The funny thing was that it never turned back to catch a glimpse at its kill. On goers fled with fear at the sight of the Fepiralan.

Lydia ran to an old-looking house thinking that it was abandoned. Only to find out that it housed a twelve-year-old orphan boy, Augustus. She knew she could not hide because the beast could enter at any moment. She notified him of the eminent danger they were in and they quickly held hands and said a prayer. In the house there were several burning torches that were lighting up the house and keeping it warm. Lydia asked Augustus for the largest torch in the house. Augustus ran to get the scorching torch which hanged from the wall. Lydia hurriedly loosed the string from her held hair, tied it to the end of the torch, and handed it to Augustus. She also instructed him to handle the torch with care and to throw it at her signal. After getting everything in place, she lured the Fepiralan towards her. She stood in the middle of the room and waited. Just when she was about to give up, the beast burst through the window. At her signal, Augustus threw the torch towards the beast. It landed with a thump! The beast shrieked as it burned. Lydia and the boy watched the flames as they engulfed the Fepiralan. Within a few awkward minutes, all that was left of the Fepiralan were ashes. With a whoop and many thanks to the boy, Lydia ran back home to tell her parents what had happened.

The following morning, Lydia was awoken by a knock on her front door. She rushed to the door wondering who it could be, only to find a huge crowd of people led by Augustus together with the governor of Ghamenai waiting for her. She was rewarded with a gold medal. And from then on, the state of Ghamenia was safe.

THE END.

There are many morals you can learn from this story, but the main ones are:

Choose your friends wisely.

No matter the situation you are in, God can turn it around for good. (Romans 8:28)

We can cry out to God in trouble and He will rescue us.

God can use us to accomplish significant things no matter how insignificant we may feel.
