Chapter 3

A true incident.

Jacob was writing that story based on a true incident. It was all that Howard could think about as he was walking back to his office. Not that it was of any actual significance, but he was embarrassed that he had completely missed that angle.

It had happened in 1986. Not a lot was documented on the internet from that time, still, with a little effort, Howard was able to dig up some information on the case.

It read,

Gerald James, a 39-year-old single father was arrested for the brutal murder of actress Cindy Campbell. It was concluded that the accused had committed the heinous crime under the influence of drugs and alcohol, which was later confirmed in his blood toxicology report.

Gerald James, a senior police officer was apparently in a relationship with the actress. On the night of the incident, Gerald was highly intoxicated and an argument between the two took a dirty turn as Gerald stabbed the actress 13 times with a kitchen knife.

Police had found Gerald unconscious in the house with the murder weapon in his hand, the following morning. Gerald James has had an alleged history of violent incidents including domestic violence, also drug abuse and alcoholism. Infact he was under suspicion recently for the unexpected & mysterious death of his wife.

As for yet another shocker, Gerald's 5-year-old son, Jake was an unfortunate witness to the entire incident. He was found hiding inside the closet by the police. "The boy is definitely in shock; he has not said a word ever since we found him. I cannot even imagine what seeing something like that does to a child's mind. Currently we have enough evidence to pin a strong case on the accused. So, we won't bother putting the boy through unnecessary interrogations. He's now with the Child Services. Since there's no next of kin, he will be sent to a Children's Home. God bless that child", said Captain Danny Williams while talking to the press.

Howard was thinking. Jake...Jacob!

Jacob Gerald...

He knew Jacob was from a foster home. The very first thing that they tried to do after that accident was to find his family. But this was something that he never anticipated. Jacob's mind was a disaster waiting to happen. That accident was merely just a trigger. That memory might have been suppresed in his subconscious for all this while. He wrote it down on a paper, he gave each character a new name.

It wasn't just a fantasy he had created. It was a memory, that he tried to reconstruct.

Howard removed his glasses and wiped his eyes. He took a sip of water from his bottle. He closed his eyes to calm himself down.

Wait... But wasn't Jacob's story about the officer being framed for the murder? The mysterious phone call... Did it really happen or was it just something that his subconscious had created? What did Jacob see that night? How much of what he wrote was true?

There were so many questions and no answers.
