Chapter 7

IVY

The week slowly slithers by and I find work tedious. I can't concentrate at all. Ryan is always in my mind.

Logan stops by most of the times to watch movies, to help me cook dinner and even to keep me company. I've come to love him as a friend. I can never master any other feelings for him.

Ryan's car has passed past my house a day or two. I know I'm hopeful...or is it just in my mind? It's exceedingly difficult to let him go!

Tonight is the day...

The dinner date with the families.

Logan has agreed to meet them.

To say I'm afraid will be an understatement. I'm scared!

I even threw up severally due to tension.

I finally manage to take a shower, curl my hair and apply some make up. I choose a knee length dinner dress and black heels. I keep on checking myself out in the mirror.

I glance at the clock for the umpteenth time. I've been doing so for the better part of the evening. I try to calm down to no avail and I end up pacing up and down the whole living room.

Ten minutes and Logan will be here..

The sound of the ticking clock almost drives mad. The clock seems to be going backwards not forwards. These seems to be the longest ten minutes of my life!

My hands are clammy and my body heat has definitely risen up by the time the most awaited knock sounds at the door.

“Finally!” I breathe as I swing the door open.

Logan laughs “Am I late?

“No.” I say, pushing past him walking to his black sedan.

“You look flushed, are you okay?

I nod as I hop into his car. My leg bounces up and down impatiently as he slowly gets into the driver's seat.

“Come on grandpa! We don't have the whole day!

He chuckles before purposely moving as slow as a snail, his hand hovering in mid air for sometime gradually inching the key to the ignition.

“Logan!” I whine. “Please come on..

He smiles, finally putting the key in the ignition and drives out of the driveway.

*I'll end up killing him before the day is over!* I swear to myself.

*My nervousness is going to eat me alive!*

All the cars are parked in the driveway and we end up packing along the road next to my parents house.

I chuckle nervously as I watch my parents peeking out the screen door.

Their eyes narrow as they try to catch a glimpse of whoever is in the car.

As Logan steps from the car and opens my door, I slow down a notch and take in the male model who happens to be my date.

He looks breathtaking.

He's dressed amicably and I'm sure my parents are gonna love him.

It's quite unfortunate that I can't return his feelings. I only see him as a great friend...nothing more!

He takes my hand in his and we walk to the front door.

We take one step in and we're bombarded by the families.

“Oh my goodness look at you two!

“What a stunning couple!

“Logan Wilson, what a pleasure to have you here!

“Darling, what a wonderful choice. He's so handsome!” My mum gushes.

Logan is a good actor. He seems to soak up the compliments and gives out a few of his own. He works the room easily. I smile, settling down somewhat. I scan the small walkway but I don't seem to see who I'm looking for.

“They're having a private moment in the back yard.

Ariana says, catching my wandering eye.

I smile my thanks, a warm hand once again engulfs mine and the families escort us to the dining room.

Logan takes the seat that's empty beside me and smiles at me. I smile back genuinely.

“So Logan, how are you these days?” Marie Wyatt asks.

“ I'm good, even better with Ivy by my side.” He replies, squeezing my hand beneath the table.

“That's so sweet!” All the mothers chorus.

“I'll be right back. I've got to go check on the food.” Mum rises from her seat and leaves the dining room.

The backdoor opens and in walks a furious Isabella and Ryan.

*Trouble in paradise?*

Isabella gives me a forced smile and I send her one in return. When her eyes land on Logan, she stops and stands still, a look of fear evident in her eyes. No one else seems to notice apart from me. Logan doesn't bat an eye at her.

My eyes constants get into the contact with the gray ones I've been dreaming of the past one week.

The emotionless orbs drift from me to Logan then back again. The emotions that hadn't been there before flare back to life...he looks more than pissed off. I don't understand why he ended our affair.

“Hey, You're Ryan Austin right?” Logan asks, offering his hand.

Ryan glances at the outstretched hand and after a moment he finally shakes it. I watch him tighten his grip around Logan's hand and I have to give Logan credit for not flinching because I'm sure it doesn't feel good.

“Yeah, that's me.” Ryan replies, getting go of my date's hand.

“Pleasure meeting you again after high school.

Logan draws his hand beneath the table and from the corner of my eye I can see him flexing it.

Ryan nods, taking a seat from across us.

Logan leans in close, his breathe tickling my neck.

“So you forgot to mention your love interest is your best friend and he's your other best friend's boyfriend.” He whispers.

I swing my head facing him and our faces are inches apart...his blue eyes are understanding yet calculating. I nod at him, unable to respond.

He smiles, bringing the back of my hand to his lips pecking it lightly.

The sound of clattering dishes has both our heads snapping in the direction of the noise.

Ryan gas dropped his silverware on his plate, his jaw is clenched, the hand that sits on the table is made into a fist and he's glaring at us.

Isabella recovers herself and sits next to him.

“Are you okay?
