IN THE DARK

Chapter one

***aliyah's P. O. V***

"wake up already! Aliyah!"I heard someone scream, but it felt like I was dreaming but then I realized I wasn't when I felt a hand pulling my legs. And even though I really really wanted to get my beauty sleep,I just had to get up. Waking up early is really a chore for some of us.

I slowly raised my head from my bed, rubbing my eye with my hand as I yawned like I hadn't slept for days. I searched my side for my pillow when I finally found it I threw it at him,I knew it was my brother but even though I  knew I was not going to hit my target,I loved throwing the pillow at him.

"why are you disturbing me usman!"I screamed at my annoying brother.

"breakfast is ready, mama said you should come downstairs"he replied

"okay, I will be there"i said rubbing my face.

"should I send Amina to help you downstairs"he asked concerned.

"you don't need to"I replied. I loved the fact that he cared so much about me and always wanted to help but I really didn't like when everyone treated me less like a human. I didn't want to be like that,I was grown now and all I wanted was to be able to do stuffs for my self.

"are you sure?"he asked. I could sense his worried face even though I couldn't see it. He had always been worried about me.

"yeah, thank you"I said. then I heard his footsteps as he left my room.

I hand searched for my phone on the bed as I checked for notifications but there was none.

I walked towards the door using the stick I had as a guide but I already knew my way around the house and I could even walk without a guide but then I remembered the times I had hit my head when not concentrating and then mother had insisted I had my walking stick with me everytime.

I  passed by my parents bedroom but I had to stop because I heard them both arguing on something and I already knew it was definitely about me.sometimes I wished I hadn't been born, maybe then father's perfect life wouldn't have been made imperfect with his physical impaired daughter.

"the elections are coming up she can't be seen outside"dad shouted. "I wouldn't want anybody talking about her"he added.

"dear, you can't do that to her. She needs us all we shouldn't just neglect her"

"then we have to get her married, out of the house, maybe then they will have that to talk about and not how she looks"father said

"but you know no one wants to marry her because she is blind" mother added.

"I need your daughter out at least till the elections are over"

"but you can't just get rid of her. She is our daughter"mother screamed.

"then she must get married and I think I have just the right person"father affirmed.

    "but who"mother asked.

"a friend's son,you will find out later"

"does he know she is blind"

"they will have no choice, his father needs me for his campaign"

"but she doesn't even know him or like him"

"she doesn't have to and  that's my decision is final"

"my daughter won't be happy"

"it's final woman"

At this point I had started crying and I didn't even know why. Was it because my dad thought I was a disgrace? Or because he wanted to get me married to a stranger? I really just didn't know why he hated me so much and at that point I wished he wasn't even my father!

I immediately wiped my face as I heard the door open.

"aliyah dear, have you been standing there for long"mother asked

"no mother, I..i.. Just came"

"now, let me help you downstairs"
