Chapter 6

Two warm arms wrapped around my stomach and squeezed me multiple times in an attempt to get what was choking me out. I coughed with my eyes shut.

I knew it wasn't the opposite gender because I could feel her boobs poking my back. Images of father putting a bullet in the person's head if it was a boy made me cough harder.

Finally, the chocolate chip flew out of my mouth and landed in front of two black Gucci shoes. She released her grip oh my stomach and I took my gaze higher from the Gucci shoes. Immediately I locked gazes with the professor, I hastily averted my gaze to the floor and clutched my neck.

"Here." The girl that saved me placed a bottle of water in my hand–while I was trying my best to catch my breath.

My eyes wandered around the yellow painted class and my insides cringed when I saw enormous eyes frying my skin with their gazes. Now would be a good time for the ground to open up and swallow me.

"If this was a highschool, I would have put you in detention for violating one of my rules." The professor scowled, causing me to gulp–totally oblivious of what to do or say.

"I'm-I'm sorry." I stuttered, slowly gasping for air.

Curious to see who saved me, I averted my gaze from the professors face to the girl that stood beside me.

It was Evelyn.

She flashed me a small smile and Immediately we locked gazes, something strange happened. I stood rigid to the spot and felt as if my soul was being knocked out of my body by a powerful force.

I noisily inhaled and got shoved into a very dark pit that gave me weird vibes.

Suddenly, it was bright again–but I was in a different room. Where was I? My eyes scanned the room and made out a bed at the extreme edge of the room.

The walls were painted in red and the groans from the bed captured my attention. Squinting at the bed and trying to figure out who was on the it gave me a headache.

"Help me." She cried and coughed.

Her skin appeared to be pale and bloodless. Her eyes were bloodshot and she was strapped to the bed with brown things that were like belts.

The light she was underneath came on and I gasped when I saw Evelyn. Balls of sweat slide down my head and my body shook in fear. Sounds of distant footsteps filled the room and it made my heart skip a beat.

Instantly, my head snapped to the direction of the footsteps. My heart was pounding against the wall of my heart and I gripped my chest to calm myself down.

A girl came into the room with a mask that resembled that of Jason from Friday the thirteenth glued to her face. She was dressed in white and had red stains on her grown. There was a steel bowl in her hand and it had things I could barely see.

My feet were glued to the floor that no matter how I tried to run, they wouldn't move.

She stood beside the bed where Evelyn struggled to set herself free.

The strange girl stringed a thread and began to sew Evelyn's mouth. My heart felt like it was a glass that was dropped and left to break into tiny pieces.

"Evelyn!" I yelled, fear pumping into my veins.

My feet unglued and I rushed towards the bed, but got knocked down by some invisible force.

"No!" I screamed and noticed how my presence wasn't made known to the strange girl. "Evelyn!"

I stood up and banged both my fists on the force field. Evelyn screamed while the girl sewed her mouth.

She was done and evil cackling escaped from her lips, sending cold down my spine.

"No, no!" I screamed, banging on whatever was shielding me. "Stop!"

"Get a grip of yourself." The voice of a male echoed in the invisible box I was trapped in.

"Release me!" I shook.

"Hephzibah!" The voice sounded like a trumpet was being blown directly into my ears.

I gasped, breathing heavily and my vision went black.

It was bright again, but I was in the class.

What just happened?

I was confused and terrified. My body wasn't in a force shield, I was being held by Evelyn and the professor. My chest heaved and I was gasping for air.

Whisper erupted in the classroom and I managed to download what was going on around me. The students had horror written all over their faces and they stood very far away from the professor and I.

My mouth went dry and the professor released me.

"Take her to the clinic." He ordered and Evelyn nodded.

I laid on the hospital bed with both my hands on my chest as a thousand and one questions flew around my head concerning what I saw today.

There was a soft knock on the door before it creaked open. Emmie peered her head into the room before her body came into sight.

Her dress mirrored the dull and emotionless color of the room; grey.

I sat up and stared down at my jeans skirt.

"Hi." She rushed over to where I was seated. "Are you okay?" She felt my head for my temperature with worry lines on her forehead.

"I'm fine." I played with the string on my skirt, wishing I could tell her what I saw and how strange this school was to me.

"How did it happen?" She backed my backpack and held me so I could slip my legs into my sandals. "People are saying you might be mentally deranged."

"People?" I furrowed my brows and stopped wearing the second leg of my sandals.

"Yes." She beckoned me to put on my footwear. "Is there something you're not telling me?"

"Do I look mentally sick to you?" I asked, slightly irritated at her question. "Why would you ask me such?"

"I'm sorry, but look at this." She showed me a video of myself and I gaped at her phone screen. "This is why I asked. You acted so weird."

We walked together to where I was supposed to sign out of the hospital. This school was a whole level of stress.

"I had a little panic attack." I defended myself and felt as if claws were scratching the inside of my throat because of the little lie my mouth just uttered.

I went on a trip to memory lane, while I was waiting for Emmie to clear me out.

My heart pounded violently against the wall of my chest. Tears rolled down my eyes and my knees were sore from kneeling on the tiles.

"Dad, please." I pleaded, hoping he'd spare Debby.

Debby shook and paced around the room with horror on her face.

"What is he going to do to me?" She asked me immediately he left the room.

"I don't know." I sobbed, hating being given birth to in this family. "Why did you lie?"

"I was scared." She sniffled.

"You shouldn't have." I placed both my hands on her shoulders and shook her. "Father wouldn't spare you."

We heard his footsteps and Immediately our room door flew open. Father marched into our room with his face red.

"How dare you lie to me?" He clenched his jaw. "Do you know lying is a sin?"

I knelt down again and pleaded with my father to spare her.

"Answer me!"

"I know." Debby stammered.

"Now, you'll pay for your sins." He clutched her wrist and pulled her out of the room. Debby wailed and I followed them, pleading.

"Do not lie! It is boldly written in the Bible." He said through gritted teeth and sat her on a stool. "Leave Hephzibah."

"Father, please." I cried. "It was just a little lie."

"Just?!" He thundered. "Do you know one little lie leads to a hundred?"

"But father-"

"Silence!" He yelled and I held my lips. "Do you want to be the one seated on the punishment chair?"

"Let me-"

"If you sit, I'll still punish her because I don't take nonsense." He scolded. "I hate lies."

I ran out of the kitchen and slumped on the floor, crying bitterly. I ran to call my mother and she took it on the third ring.

"Mom!" I cried. "Where are you?"

"I'm on my way home. Why are you crying?"

"It's da-" I got interrupted by the loud screams of Debby–the phone slipped from my hand and landed on the floor. My heart sank.
