CHAPTER 6

ANDROUS

"Did you already gave it to her?" I ask my secretary after he arrived in my office.

"Yes, sir. I already gave it to her. I also told her to come here early as possible."

"Cancel all my meetings tomorrow. Thanks."

"Yes, Sir. Ahm but, are you sure that you will make that woman as your fiancee?" He asks with a calculated look on his face.

"Why? Do you think she doesn't suit to be my fiancee?" I ask, raising my brows.

"It's not like that --"

"You're thinking that she looks like a beggar, don't you?" He didn't answer immediately. So, now I know.

"Sometimes, those beggars on the street are the ones who can help us. So don't judge her. Let me do the judgment."

"Yes, Sir. I apologize."

"You can go now."

"Yes, Sir." He left.

Besides, this is for my sake not for the sake of that woman.

GUEVIA HOSPITAL

THURSDAY 7:30 AM

Cha! I need to go to my company.

I remove my medical lab coat and I got out of my office here in GEUVIA Hospital. From the distance, I saw Franco running towards me.

"Doctor Lhorton!"

"What happen?" I ask him.

"My patient doesn't look fine after I operate her last two days. Can you help me?"

"Are you really a doctor?" I chuckling ask.

"I am. But I wish I am good as you."

"TSS. Hurry, your patient might get die."

"Don't joke like that. You're killing me."

I laugh.

When we reach the NSICU (Neurosurgery Intensive Care Unit). I quickly check the patient.

"Do you hear me, patient? What's your name?" I ask the patient but she is not responding.

"I ask her for how many times, but shes just keeps mumbling."

"It's okay. She just has mental drowsiness. Please lift your right arm, patient."

And she followed.

I take off the blanket that is covering her leg. "Now, lift your right leg, patient."

Again, she followed.

"It's weird. Shes following your instructions, but she didn't follow mine." Franco shakes his head.

"Maybe I'm too gentle." I joke at him. "Please get some plenty of rest, patient," I told his patient.

"Check her blood pressure anytime and give her 100cc of mannitol every six hours. She could get worse if her blood pressure drops. Aim her systolic pressure to between 60 and 180. So her artery won't burst again. Don't worry, just keep giving her the nimodipine. Is she has a severe headache, give her acetaminophen. If it doesn't improve, give her half a bottle of ample morphine."

"Thank you, Doctor Lhorton."

I tap his shoulder. "Just follow my instructions, she will be fine." After I said that I went outside.

In outside, Cassandra met me.

"Androus." She calls.

"What?" I coldly response.

"Are you leaving?"

"Yeah. I have an important meeting with my client."

"We are called to the conference room."

"What? For?"

"I have no idea." She shrugs her shoulders.

I look at my watch, its already 8 AM. Damn it! I can't be late.

"Okay. Let's go." I signaled and I walked before her. I also texted my secretary that I might be arrived late for about 30 minutes.

When we got to the Conference room, my eyebrows lift as all the doctors in different fields as well as the directors, including Chairman Guevarra, was her, clapping their hands as I and Cassandra entered the conference.

Looks like I already know what's going on.

MAXIE

3 hours. I've been waiting for a taxi in almost three hours this and still, I didn't even get one.

All taxies are full of passengers. Am I being unlucky again today?

No way. No way. Please, bad luck! Even just now, please stay away from me. I need money now.

"Taxi! Taxi!" I shouted, and thankfully the taxi stopped in a short distance from where I was standing. I ran to approach it immediately.

"Mister, can you give me a ride, please?"

"Where are you going, miss?" He asks me.

"Ahm. I'm going here." I showed him the card that the man had given me yesterday.

"Ah. Yes, Miss. Hop in."

"Really? You will take me there? Ahm, but, I don't have any fare, can I pay you when I get my first paycheck?" What I am doing is a shame, it's embarrassed me, but I really don't have a better choice now.

I didn't want that job to become stone.

Second chances are rare, I mustn't waste it.

"Don't worry, Miss. The ride for you is free."

"What? Really?" I was surprised by what he said.

"Yes, really. So hop in."

"Thank you so much!" I get inside. "Don't worry, Sir. When I get rich, I'll buy you a taxi!" I gladly responded to him and he just laughed.

ANDROUS

"Androus! Hey, Androus!" Cassandra shouted loudly at me as I suddenly left the Conference room after I left a word at them.

"What!" I yelled out as I face her-- and my face turns to the right so suddenly when her palm hit it. She slaps me.

"How dare you insult me and dad in front of the doctors and directors at our hospital ! Don't you have a heart! You're shameless!"

I scoff. "How dare you to make decisions in my life without asking for permission from me? What right do you have! You're pathetic." I laugh, filled with sarcasm.

"Remember this, there is no engagement party will happen between us! It won't happen and it will never happen! Our wealth, my wealth will only belong to me. Not to you, not even to your family. So stop wishing for it, Cassandra. And like my wealth, my heart will never be yours. So if I were you, I will give up." I gave her an insulting smile before I turned my back to her.

I was about to walk away when I heard Chairman Guevarra's voice behind me, so I return my back to him.

"Androus." He calmly uttered.

"Chairman I apologize for insulting you, but I'm sorry. I can't marry your daughter."

"Your family has been a great help to our family, but that is not an excuse to forgive you for what you have done. The engagement party will continue to do whether you like it or not--"

"I'm sorry, Chairman. Talk to my father about this again before continuing your plan. I'm going."

I didn't wait for his response and I left.

Shit. Its already 10 AM.

I quickly go into my car and drove it away.

Within an hour, I got to my company.

I park my car, get inside immediately. Denise, my secretary had approached me.

"Where is she? Is she already here?"

"Actually, she just arrived, Sir. She's already in your office. " He answered as we are heading now to the 4th floor.

"Did anyone see her when she got here?

"No one. Sir. I assure you that."

"Good."

The lift sounded as we got onto the right floor. Then, I walk towards my office. When I got there, I saw her image immediately. With her dark brown hair curls nicely down onto her shoulders. Her dress is that it is bigger than her, with uh... slippers. But her nails are quite pretty.

She stood up when she saw me.

"Good morning, Sir." She greeted.

"Yeah. Take a seat." I order as I sat on my swivel chair.

"Where is Miss. Laila?" She asks me when she gets back to her seat.

"Laila? Why are you looking for her."

"Ahm. She gives me another chance to work in here company. Ahm, actually, here, I think her secretary gave me this yesterday." She shows me the card which actually my secretary gave that to her.

I laugh. She's funny. "It's me, actually."

She was surprised. "I-I'm sorry, Sir?"

"I'm Androus Lhorton. Miss Laila's brother. I'm the owner of this company and my secretary was the one who gave you that card, which basically means, I will offer a simple job for you."

"I-Its you?" She is still surprised. TSS.

Why is she look so surprised? Shouldn't she be thankful? TSS.

"Yes, it's me. So, are you ready for the job?"
