Be With Me.

When she stirred and woke up, Zhi Xun found that she was in the hospital. She ransacked her mind for her memories of what had last happened, but all she recalled was running from something. Now that she thought of it, she couldn't even remember what she was running from.

How had she arrived in the hospital? She looked down at her clothes and realised that she was wearing a hospital gown. 'Right, silly me', she said to herself. Then she looked around her for any signs of her items, before falling into a panic.

What if the fire damaged her notebook computer and smartphone? She needed those to blog, and blogging was her side-income. Although it didn't amount to much, she knew it was what made her happy and having some extra money to help her get by was better than not having any help at all. Her eyes fell on a nurse in the room who was taking some notes, and so she smiled at her, asking her if someone had brought her in.

"Ah, Miss, there was a man who rescued you," the nurse said docilely. "He's at the registration desk signing some papers for your admission right now."

She bowed politely to the nurse, who returned her bow and went about doing her duties. Curiously she wondered who the man was, and her heart soared as she imagined her saviour to be the man from the library.

In about ten minutes, the man returned with a jug of water, and she was bewildered to realise that he was indeed the man from the library. Zhi Xun had just so many questions to ask, but she didn't know where to start asking from. The man chuckled, giving butterflies in her stomach with his seductive stares.

"So, I've understood from the registration desk that your name is Huo Zhi Xun."

"And you are the man from the.." she had wanted to say dream but quickly cut herself short - "..library."

"Yes, I am. Miss Huo, you seem to have a good memory." He seemed to be smiling, yet she felt a vibe of cold energy from him. Remembering the lips on hers briefly, she wondered how she would ask him about that. She couldn't possibly ask if he kissed her, or gave her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

She swallowed hard. "Did I pass out from the smoke of the fire?"

"I believe so." As if he knew what she had been thinking to ask, he added, "I tried to give you mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, but you fainted again after that, so I went with the ambulance that took you to the hospital."

She blushed at the thought that the man had kissed her, and hastily put her palms over her face. The man chuckled again, amused by her antics. Then, she seized the opportunity to ask him a question.

"Do you know what happened?" she queried.

"Before the fire?" he asked. "No."

She shrugged. She could barely remember what happened at all and why she was running. But if she didn't know herself, how would the man even know? So she decided to change the topic.

"Are you going to stay here, or do you have your university classes or work to go to?" Though he was 27 years old, she couldn't make out his actual age because of his suaveness and how trendily he was dressed.

"You need to remain in the hospital for observation for a few more days," the man said.

"I don't have money," Zhi Xun replied, without further thought.

"It's all paid for."

"By whom? I don't have insurance either."

"By me."

"Who are you?" she asked. "Why are you so willing to help me? I'm just a strange young girl you don't know." She was trying to push him away, considering the situation that she already had a boyfriend, although he turned out to be a total jerk today. Also, she was on the defensive, as they had yet to know each other.

"Then let's not be strangers," Tian Yu said with a cunning grin. "Let us know each other better from now on." He closed the door to Zhi Xun's room, and continued, "After all, you owe me for saving your life." He winked at the last sentence.

She grimaced and contemplated what the man could be after in connecting with her. She had absolutely nothing. She couldn't even afford a decent meal in the university cafeteria. Fortunately, she was a scholarship student and received ample allowances each month, or she would have starved to the point of becoming a skeleton. She survived every month on cheap groceries and instant noodles.

She asked, "Why do you want to know me better? I'm just an average girl, with no job, no extra money, and all the remaining money from my allowance every month goes to my family. So, there's no benefit in it for you."

"Because I like you, Miss Huo. After that day in the library." Tian Yu had learnt from his previous mistakes in his past lifetimes never to hide his feelings. This had made him exclusively shameless in comparison to his past life when he was the winged man in black, Shen Xiu. When he was Shen Xiu, he often kept his feelings to himself. Although they had spent the night together once, he had never got to admit his feelings for her past life, and that had led to her death in battle.

She almost choked on her saliva upon hearing his answer. How could he have been so shameless while trying to flirt with her? "You already know I have a boyfriend," she said.

"You're not married yet. While you aren't, I have a chance," he said, and when she didn't reply, he continued, "Be with me. I will do my utmost to make you happy."

Zhi Xun felt a particular pain in her chest. She found herself particularly torn between her relationship with Herman and confusion of her feelings for this man. Maybe she didn't love Herman, but she didn't know who was her destiny. She had attempted to fall in love with Herman lots of times, but failed; before, she thought Herman had been the answer to her problems and a willing party for them to build a future together. But after the library incident, she found she could not stop thinking about Tian Yu.

He added, "We can start somewhere; take it a step at a time."

"Let me think about it," she answered. Her mind was in a turmoil right now, and she couldn't decide without ending things with Herman first. But should she? What valid reason did she have to break up with Herman? Because a strange man saved her? Then, there was the question of who was her destiny. She was tired of being reincarnated again and having no ambition in this life as she would just get reincarnated again and live life all over again; in other words, a reboot.

He moved closer to her, till their lips were less than an inch apart from each other. "Remember me," he said and kissed her on the lips. "You will be mine someday."

And then he was gone.
