Chapter 15

Callie's POV

When the twins were born it was the happiest day of my life. As the doctor had placed them in my arms, a part of me was scared that I would hate them because of their father. But how foolish I was to believe that, once I saw they're beautiful little faces.

Trevor, the oldest, was always the more louder, outgoing and energetic one. He always need to be doing something, always needing his attention on something. Yes, he never truly knew how to control his temper when it came to others, but with family he'd care for them with all his heart. I knew that if I had still been with Adrian and he was still the Alpha of his pack, that Trevor would most likely take on the role.

And then my Payton.

A miracle is what the doctors called him. I had almost lost him when the twins were born, supposedly he had suffocated, and as the doctors tried to resuscitate him, nothing seemed to be working. And it was if Trevor knew what was going on because all he did was scream and cry as the doctors continued to help my son. My heart was breaking as I watched them pushing down on his little chest, using any means necessary for him to open his little eyes. Soon they had finally given up, and was just about to call his time of death when a nurse jumped in surprise, saying she has seen his little hand twitch. The doctor quickly grabbed his stethoscope and pressed it to his chest. Trevor stopped crying after the nurse had jumped and soon after the doctor was smiling and was going on and on about how this was a miracle. No one could explain it, but I didn't need an explanation, all I wanted was for both my boys to be in my arms.

As my mind travels back to the first day I held them, nothing stops the flow of tears as they land on Paytons bloodied face. What cruel world is this that my son, a little boy, had to die in such a tragic way.

"Callie-"

"Who did this! Who killed my son!" I screamed, looking up at Troy with pure rage in my eyes. I placed Payton down on the floor, looking all around me. I had only noticed now that Adrian was by my side, tears of his own falling to the ground as he picked up his youngest son. He held him close to him, and that motion only set me off even more. Everyone was either looking at Adrian in shock, or at me in fear. Trevor was by Izzy and Theo, crying in their arms as he watched his little brother. My eyes snapped over to Troy.

"Who. Did. This." I seethed, ready to tear off anyones face if they so muched as breathed the wrong way.

"I don't know." He stated, looking broken as he turned his head to Payton.

"Liar!" I yelled, running towards him but was caught by Adrian. I struggled in his grip, wanting to claw out each and every single pack members eyes. I was supposed to protect my boys, but I didn't. It's all my fault. I sent them away when we were in our room, Payton could still be alive had I not done that.

Its all my fault-

"Look!" Someone screamed, causing my head to snap over to an older man who couldn't be more than 50 years old. His eyes were wide and he was pointing over to Payton. I held my breath as I looked him over, hoping that man saw anything to give me hope. No one breathed as we watched, everything was silent.

And there it was.

His hand twitched slightly but it was all I needed to run over to him, holding him close to me. I smiled while more tears fell. He's alive. He's alive!

"Callie give him to me." Adrian spoke. I handed Paytons body over to him and watched as he held him close.

"You! Take out a search party and find who ever did this! You, alert the pack clinic we're coming and that they must be ready! Everyone else leave!" Adrian barked orders left right and centre.

"This is my pack, you can't order them around-"

"I can do whatever I want, my son was injured on 'your' land, now I'm taking charge." Adrian snarled, stepping closer to Troy before turning around and running away from everyone else.

"You heard him! Lets go!" A pack member yelled before shifting and taking off into the woods, half of the group following. The rest dispersed, which only left my family and Troy with Emily.

"I'm so sorry this happened Callie-"

"Save the crap for someone else Emily." I snarled before taking off after Adrian, making sure to pick up Trevor as I did so. He was still crying in my arms, crying for his little brother.

"Its okay sweety, he's gonna be alright, I promise." I tried to soothe him, rubbing his back gently as we entered the clinic. I stopped in my tracks when I heard lots of screaming in another room, and saw Adrian standing against the wall, glarring at the floor. I walked over to him and set Trevor down, who was then picked up by Adrian. He held Trevor close to him.

I understood why he was like this. He had barely been a father to them for a week and he almost lost one son. My heart ached when I thought of how little time he'd had gotten with the boys, but I couldn't focus on that now, I need to be strong for Payton.

Hours later, Adrian and I stil sat by the wall, Trevor fast asleep in Adrians lap. My head was rested atop of his shoulder, watching the door of the surgery room like a hawk. But that was soon fading as my eyes began to slowly shut.

"Alpha, I am doctor Benson." My eyes snapped open, and I stared up at a man.

"Doctor, is he gonna be okay?" Adrian asked worriedly but sternly as he stood up, Trevor still in his arms.

"Payton had suffered from many fatal wounds Alpha, but we were able to save him. He is quiet lucky that he could survive that sort of attack. Unfortunately due to all of his injuries, he's gone into a coma, and we have no idea when he'll wake up. I'm so sorry." He says before turning and beginning to walk away.

"Wait." I quickly said. He stopped and turned to face me. I looked at him questionably, before stepping forward.

"You called him Alpha." I stated, my eyes focused on this man. He was very odd to say the least, I had already noticed that when he spoke he had tried hinting at something but I couldn't place my finger on it. He smiled softly before nodding his head.

"Because he is the Alpha. This pack has decided to blindly follow a women they barely even knew. The truth shall be revealed, mark my words." He stated, only making my confusion increase. I looked at Adrian before turning back to the doctor but he was gone.

Strange man.
