Chapter 2

"What is this place? Why are we here?" Anna asked.

"We call this place the Compound, It's a training facility. We are here as their helpers," the tone Jae Ha used gave away that this answer was one he had to say. He went to stand up but he 'fell' on purpose so he landed over her, his head by hear ear."I can't tell you what really goes on in the Compound here. Once we're able to go outside we'll talk facts," Jae Ha spoke quickly and quietly.

Anna mumbled a quick 'ok' as Jae Ha got off her and said in a louder tone, "Sorry, I can be clumsy sometimes,"

"It's ok," Anna spoke, catching onto the act but not knowing why they had to have an act in the first place. She just decided to go with it.

"Ok, let me start helping you with your Korean, I want to at least get you though the Hangul," Anna looked at him in confusion. He caught her look and clarified, "Basically, the alphabet, but Korean,"

"Ah," was all Anna said before they got to work.

2 hours later and Anna was alone in her room again. Jae Ha had left not too long ago but she was told by a staff member to stay put and was soon enough brought a meal.

Along with the meal, which was worse than what she imagined prison food to taste like, she had received instructions to go to bed soon and be ready to wake up and be evaluated early.

She didn't know how early that was, so she just decided to go to sleep right after she finished eating. Falling asleep was difficult, there was too much to think through, but eventually she fell into a slumber.

She awoke the next morning to a banging on her metal door.

"You got 5 minutes to be in uniform and outside this door at attention," a voice called.

Anna could see from the light, or lack thereof, in the window that it had to be around 5 am at the latest. Checking the clock in by her bed, she saw she wasn't too far off in her guess. It was 4:30 am.

She realized she only had 5 minutes to get ready and quickly threw on some clothes and brushed her hair out with the brush that was provided in the bathroom. She glanced at the clock that said 4:34 as she tied her hair in a ponytail quickly and ran out the door.

As she closed the door, she turned to see Anthony closing his door as well. She had missed him and didn't fell safe without him.

"You made it in time, I'm impressed, most don't on their first day," a guard spoke with an American accent.

The two remained silent, not knowing if hey were allowed to speak.

"Follow me," was all the guard said after a second. He didn't seem a cold as the first on they had encountered, but the two were still on edge.

The siblings didn't dare say anything to each other in fear of the unknown. They hadn't realized until now that the Director had actually scared them more than they first knew.

They arrived at a door and the guard turned to them and said, "2100 will be going first, 2101 will wait here until called, sit on the bench."

Anna did as she was instructed as Anthony was ushered into the room.

After about 45 minutes, the same guard came to retrieve Anna and bring her in. He walked her into a futuristic looking room with one sleek black screen taking up one side. The guard stood by the door and hit a button.

"2101, your evaluation begins now," Anna jumped as a hologram appeared on screen and an electronic voice spoke from the ceiling. She wasn't sure what she expected the evaluation to be, but it certainly wasn't this,

"Test 1, reflexes," the voice spoke before, without warning, a knife flew out from the wall, right at her face.

She dodged it in time, thankfully, however she did manage to get a small cut on the side of her face, being only slightly too slow.

"That was the tutorial, the test begins now," the hologram faded away after 'speaking' those words.

Two knives suddenly flew out from her left and right sides. She ducked and was able to avoid them, since she was short enough to not have a duck much. About 3 more knives cam flying out of the walls that she successfully dodged, shocking herself, before the hologram reappeared.

"Test 2, patterns,' the 'tutorial' began as another hologram appeared, this one of a board with supposedly random shapes placed all across it.

After looking at it for a moment, Anna noticed a pattern in the way the shapes were laid out. She reached forward and touched the screen where the hologram was. It disappeared and she was unsure what to do.

"Speak your answer," the hologram said.

She said what the pattern was before the hologram spoke again.

"You have two minutes, get as many as you can."

The two minutes passed and Anna estimated that she was told.

A hissing noise was made as a treadmill appeared, one that was built into the floor.

"Run as fast and long as you can."

This test seemed pretty simple. Anna stepped onto the treadmill as it began to move.

She ran an estimated 30 minutes. She could have gone faster than she did but wouldn't have gone as long or ran longer but nut not as fast. She felt like she did something wrong, however, when the hologram appeared again and spoke in a stern tone, "next room."

The guard walked her into the next room, which had a bunch of targets and weapons in it.

The hologram appeared on the left wall, furthest from where Anna and the guard were.

"Final test, weapons. Pick up each gun, fire three rounds, move to the next. Once you have gotten through all he guns, go to the knives and throw each one to the target," the hologram explained.

Anna did as she was told, but she had never fired a gun or thrown knives before, so she wasn't sure what she was doing while she fired and threw with her right hand. After a few, it didn't feel correct so she switched to her left hand being dominant, and it all began working better. She still wasn't a good shot, but the knife throwing improved a lot. Apparently she was left handed. She wrote right handed, so this wasn't expected.

After she threw the last knife, the hologram appeared and said, "evaluation complete."

The guard walked her out of the door and stood at a slot in the wall. After a second of standing there, a paper was spit out. The guard grabbed it and looked at it before giving it to Anna, but she didn't have time to look over it.

"Follow me," the guard spoke,

Anna walked behind him as she was led to what looked like a cafeteria. She spotted Anthony in the corner.

"Grab food and eat. Look over your schedule and follow it. That's all the instructions I have for you," the guard said.

Anna grabbed only an apple and headed toward Anthony.

"Have you looked over your schedule?" Anthony asked as soon as she sat.

"Not yet, how was your evaluation?" Anna questioned.

"That was definitely not what I expected. I don't get it. Where the hell are we?" Anthony lowered his voice at the end.

"I don't know. Right now my only plan is keep my head down and do what I'm told until I get answers," Anna told him.

"I see you didn't expect the knife." Anna glances up at the voice who had spoke. Jae Ha.

"No, but I dodged everything else," Anna defended. In all honesty she had forgot about the cut on her face.

"You look relatively unharmed," an Australian accent spoke, sitting next to Felix.

Anna's head snapped up at the accent to see someone with died blonde hair next to her brother.

"This is my translator, Chan," Anthony introduced.

"2893," Chan corrected.

"Out here, we're our numbers and only our numbers," Jae Ha told the siblings.

"I'm 2098, Jae Ha," he whispered his actual name to Anthony.

"How do you two know each other?" Chan questioned to the Liu's.

"We're siblings, brought here together," Anthony explained, looking at Jae Ha and saying, "2100, Anthony."

"2101. Anna," Anna finally introduced.

Just as they went to continue talking, a guard yelled out, "1st meal complete, move to first lesson now."

"What's your first lesson?" Jae Ha asked?

"Hand to hand," Anna looked down at her schedule and read aloud. She had forgotten to look at it before.

"I have that too, It's a skilled class, so you're probably in it to see what you can do, they saw something in your evaluation," Chan spoke up.

"See you later, we've got to go," the four separated, Chan and Anna walking together along with a crowd.

"But hand to hand wasn't tested?" Anna spoke with a questioning tone

"They have a weird way of evaluating," Chan replies simply.

They arrived at the class and stood in a line, Anna just following Chan's lead.

The class went well, Anna being taught basic techniques before she'd thrown into the actual class tomorrow, as Chan said.

They had their second lesson, guns, which Anna also had with Chan, before they had an outdoor break.

"They give us random unannounced breaks occasionally, and it's mostly just when new comers like you show up," Chan explained as they headed outside.

"Oh," was all Anna replied with.

They settled outside, Anthony and Jae Ha joining, as apparently Jae Ha and Chan were already close, so they would be hanging out whether they had to be translators or not.

The boys were talking as Anna just sat observing what was going on before she locked eyes with someone who took her breath away.

He had sharp eyes that gave him a very intimidating look, along with a strong jawline. His hair was black, but dyed red at places across the top.

The eye contact was intense and Anna had to be the first to break it.

"Who is that?" she breathed out.
