Chapter Six

"And that is how they meet each other!" I exclaimed and gladly looked at Gray that was on his poker face while driving.

"Oh I can't believe those precious stories of Grandma were still fresh on my mind"

I continued while I wait for any reaction coming from his face.

He was just silently driving so I just ignored him. It's already mid-noon but he still keeps on driving the whole time.

"Can we stop by? I'm already hungry" I asked him when I saw a cafe beside a creek on the roadside He sighed before he stopped the car.

"Make it fast, we're already getting close to the Boston's" he lazily said

I quickly get outside and the cafe welcomes me by its wood-carved logo

'BURKLEY'S CAFE'

My attention was caught by the flower stand beside the cafe, with a woman that was seemed to be gloomy.

Before I could approach the stall, I glance at Gray inside the car.

He widened his eyes like he's asking what I was about to do

"Just a minute okay!" I yelled and excitedly faced the mini flower stand.

I picked the bundle daisies and roses and hand the bill to the seller. The flowers seemed to have been cared so well but the florist seemed to be exhausted from the whole day.

"Do you have a smaller bill young lady? That's only five dollars" asked the woman with low tone who seemed to be already on her senior years

"Oh, sorry I don't. Just keep it, it's okay" I gracefully smiled to her

"Oh dear thank you, actually you're my first customer who passed by as of today, just add your flowers to be fair" she picks some flower from the unsorted ones on the pail,

"I think this was enough. It's okay, I should get going" I smiled at her

"Okay time to go, you there! " I heard Gray called me from the car window.

"Just a second "I shouted back

"Your boyfriend seems to be so bad at waiting for his girl" the woman giggled

"Uh, no he's not my boyfriend. Just a colleague of mine. Well... its time to go, have a good day" I cheerily ask her and turned back.

"It's really surprising to meet a pure-hearted young woman like you these days," she said that makes me turned back to her again and smiled once more.

I was speechless while my memories of grandma flashed on my memories, it's her who taught me to be generous and kind-hearted until I can

"Oh darling, I think your boyfriend inside was waiting for you" I got back to my senses when she talked about Gray who was waiting inside the car

"Sometimes kindness is all we can share to brighten up anyone's day. Goodbye again, take good care of your self" then I finally waved at her as she also nodded and finally smiled.

I take a deep breath before I entered the car

"What's up with those flowers? Is that what you call food?" Gray sarcastically asked as he started to drive

"I just wanted to give these to Mr. Boston once we reach his home," I said as I keep smelling the flower

"Do you love inhaling pollens that much? You know you're gonna leave that with no fragrance before you could hand them to George"

I sharply looked at him while his eyes were busy on the road

"I just miss doing it, why'd you care" I answered back

"Doing what? like eating pollens? Do you eat pollens in Asia?" I was about to slap the bunch of flowers to him when I remembered I must not

"I used to surprise grandma with different flowers every time I come home, she loved flowers as much as I did," I told him then he keeps in being silent and focused driving again.

Less than an hour passed when I can see we're already passing by to a cemetery. I can see crows flying around and the sky was starting to turn gray.

I felt free from creepiness when I can already see some houses throughout the window. The whole village was quiet.

It doesn't seem that much creepier now, not until a thunder roared from the darkening clouds.

I can't even see anyone walking around.

"I think we're here" he signaled me soon as we stopped at the blue-painted bungalow house.

It was at the corner of the street of this village

"We should hurry" Gray leads to go outside and walk closer to the house.

He's been knocking for how many times but no one still answered.

The wind began to blow so hard and I can see some leaves dancing with the air

"Are you sure this is there house?" I confirmed to him when no one's still opening for us.

He just looked at me and sighed

"Oh come on Gray. When did you last visited them?" I asked him when I saw uneasiness in his face

"Only once, when I was thirteen I guess" he furrowed his brows and looked away

"Ha! Haha! you've gotta be kidding me, Gray. All this time, you weren't so sure, huh "I sarcastically laughed at him.

"Hey there! Is there anything you need?" I almost freaked out when an old woman with white curly hair carrying a bag of groceries was approaching on us,

"Mrs. Carol?" Gray asked the old woman that was now trying to open the door

"Yeah, that's my name, what do you need from me?" she faced us when she finally unlocked the doorknob.

She seemed to be a mad old woman living alone in a big house.

"It's me, Gray. Don't you recognize me?" Gray asks trying to convince the old woman who just looked at him from head-to-toe.

"Oh, I don't know someone who looks like a punk on the streets that didn't even know how to have a nice haircut, and what is this?"

The old woman strictly grabbed his arms and aggressively pulled up Gray's black shirt sleeves up to his shoulders.

I gasped when I saw a big tattoo of a dragon with a rose in it, free drawn to his arms and maybe up to his back.

All of it was enough to be covered by his sleeves,

I never noticed he had this one the whole time

"Hey watch out!" Gray tightens his jaws and fixes his sleeves covering his tattoo.

Now he's starting to act deadly in front of the old woman.

I was confused when the old woman just laughed, then I felt creepy, that I was about to tighten my grip at the bunch of flowers, soon as she laughed more and even louder.

I looked at Gray that was just straightly looking to the creepy old woman in front of us like he was waiting for something to happen.

"Hahaha, Gotcha! Of course, I know you, son! Come on in"

she can't stop laughing until she finally opened the door for us.

"I told you, Bostons are cool!" Gray whispered at me and entered the house next to the old woman

"Yeah, I guess so" I shrugged and followed them inside as Mrs. Carol leads us to her kitchen

"And who is this gorgeous girl with you. I guess she's your girlfriend huh?"

I feel so uneasy when we all looked with each other waiting for anyone to talk first

"Uhm, hi I'm Lauren Brethford. Im...just his neighbor" I smiled as I handed her the flowers I've been holding the whole time.

"Oh thank you, how sweet of you darling " she shoot the flowers at the empty vase displayed at the counter.

"So, neighbors huh? You know, you both can make a good couple" she asked while stacking her groceries.

"Really?" Gray smirked at Mrs. Carol while he helped her stacking up the groceries on the shelves

"Yup, but it's sad that you're JUST A NEIGHBOR!" Mrs. Carol firmly said as she was cleaning off her palms, but smirk was still on Gray's chiseled face

"Whatever, follow me" Mrs. Carol ended up the topic there and leads the way to her living room.

Now we can't look straight to each other as we were following Mrs. Carol

"So what brings both of you in here?" Mrs. Carol asked as she sat down the couch

"We came all the way here to see Uncle George" Gray stated.

Mrs. Carol's eyes widened as she heard the name

"Oh, Gray. What exactly do you need from Dad?" she sighed looking on us

"We just needed to ask him something," I said as I sat down to the couch in front of her

"and what was that?" Mrs. Carol keeps turning back and forth her eyes on us

"We believe he knows where to find Mr. Dewey" I straightly answered to her as I look at Gray to let him explain it further, but he's just silently standing at the back of the couch

"Grayson Dewey? Your grandpa?" Mrs. Carol looked at Gray and he just nodded a little

"What? Why?" Mrs. Carol asked again as she started to pour the tea on the coffee table.

I waited for Gray to answer her but he just keeps standing there like something's bothering him.

"Mr. Grayson is lost. Well not literally lost but--uh yeah. It's like that" I tried to explain to her but I think I wasn't in the right place to do so

"Can you just tell us where to find George?" Gray started to act impulsively again.

"Can you just sit down first?" Mrs. Carol defended but Gray didn't mind her

"Uh, sorry for that" I mouthed to Mrs. Carol for Gray's attitude and yet Gry just sighed in annoyance

"Oh, it's okay. I know that kind of Gray already. There was even this time when they were been disciplined by their mother because of their stupidities as a teenager with his brother...and Mr. Grayson was just like...' Oh, Maybel, just let them be. They're already big enough to face their shits!" Mrs. Carol laughs as she seemed to enjoy the story she started right now.

"Really? and why is that?" I asked, for her to keep ongoing

"They were been jailed for one night with his brother, Mr. Dewey let them be. When the police called their parents it was Mr. Dewey who answered it and told the officer...' can you keep those hard-headed kids there, I'll just call you back tomorrow, thank you' ...and then it was the next day when Maybel found out what happened to her sons and Gray was so angry to her mother for not picking them up to that jail that night--"

"Hey hey! Stop! Why do you keep telling that kind of stuff and how did you know all of that? " Gray interrupted Mrs. Carol

"Of course son, every time your granddad visit my father, it was you and your brother that he keeps on telling all the time. That's how he loved you so much" Mrs. Carol answered leaving Gray dumbfounded

"Just tell us where to find your Dad, and we'll leave soon" Gray pleaded just to stop Mrs. Carol from telling stories about them

"Why are you so excited to see Dad, Lauren here was loving the stories that were from your Granddad's stories" now she's just making him more irritated and I like it how Gray acts like a girl because of it

"I love listening to stories Mrs. Carol " I smiled as I also looked at Gray's face that was turning crimson.

The next thing that happens alerts me when Gray walks out.

Maybe that was already the peak of his short temper

"Son! Where are you going it's raining outside!" Mrs. Carol shouted as we watch him go.

I followed him right away. It was nice to hear stories from Mrs. Carol but I was afraid that Gray might leave me in this creepy place, I didn't even know where

"Hey wait!" his steps were twice bigger as I was so I almost run to him until outside the balcony.

We stopped together when it was raining so hard as what Mrs. Carol told.

I heard him cursed as he was watching the rain heavily pouring

"You should stay here for tonight. It's risky for the both of you to drive with this kind of weather" Mrs. Carol appeared at the door

"Can you just tell us where George is? Or I'll bet we've come all the way here for nothing" Gray aggressively turned to her.

Mrs. Carol nodded and sighed. Maybe he cant take Gray's temper so easily

"Hey what's gotten into you" I whispered at him to calm down

"Okay. Did you see the cemetery right there? He's there. Peacefully lying" she answered as she was pointing to the direction we've come from earlier.

We both shocked by what she said.

"He's been there five years ago. Now get inside, both of you before I let you just go and drive under a heavy rain" she still talks calmly but her eyes were firmly looking at us.

I was nervous about her gestures so I looked at Gray

"Come on in, I'm afraid we should have to stay here for tonight. I'm scared to travel with this kind of weather" I explained to him before I followed Mrs. Carol inside.

I heard him cursed again outside and the next thing happened makes me grin when I heard the door creeks, a sign that he also come inside.
