Chapter 4: Jordan

Sitting on this cold uncomfortable cot, I just wish that my fists had done more damage to George's smug face.  I watch him sit in the cell across from me, hoping he is in more pain than he looks.  Trying to make sure that Lillian got home O.K., I asked about her earlier, but I only heard that she had left the scene.

Instead, I am forced to sit here and wait for my lawyer to bail me out.  I stare down George from across the room, while the guard walks in.  He glances at both of us and then asks, "Which one of you is George McMasters?"

George stands up and walks toward the cell door.  "I am.  Why?"

"Because your lawyer said to get your shit and meet him up front.  He wants to have a talk with you."  Glancing over at me, the guard motions for me to come over as he opens George's cell.

"I will be back for you in a few minutes."

Walking out, George looks back at me with a snide grin.  What I wouldn't give right now to be able to beat the ever-loving shit out of him.  Last night, right after I started pummeling his face, a couple of guys that were in the alley grabbed me and held me down.  Not being able to do anymore, George went after Lillian.

From what I gather, Connie picked her up before George got to her and he is still mad about it.  He spent all night rambling about how he is going to make her pay, when he gets his hands on her.  So, when I get out of here, the first thing I must do is make sure she is safe.

Coming back in, the guard unlocks my cell and has me follow him.  Seeing my lawyer, Mr. Jackson standing by the counter, I feel relieved.  "What can we do to make sure that her husband can't hurt her?"

"Well, you can't do anything.  Her husband just filed a restraining order against you and if you come within 300 feet of him or his wife, they will throw you back in jail without any questions."  He files my paperwork and gives me my personal belongings

After checking everything is still there, the clerk signs off and Mr. Jackson walks me out.

"What did you think you were doing with Mrs. McMasters in the first place?  Don't you know George McMasters is one of the richest men in town?  You should really figure out who you are playing with before you get involved with the Mrs."  He looks me sternly in the eyes after warning me.

"Look.  All I know is that husband of hers, needs to be put away.  The way he handled her.  I could tell that he has beat her before.  Not to mention, Lillian and I knew each other in high school and were just reminiscing about old times.  I didn't know it would get so out of hand."

Shaking his head, he asks, "So, I suppose sticking your tongue down her throat and practically screwing her in the alley wasn't part of your plan either?"

I stare at the ground, knowing full well that I have always wanted to get in her pants and was bound and determine to.  "No.  I was going to take her to a hotel room and make love to her all night.  That sexy lady hadn't been touched in twelve years.  I just wanted her to know what it felt like to be loved."  Walking to my car, we stop, and he shakes my hand.

"Well, just be careful and I will be in touch for the court hearing."  He smiles and starts to leave.

"Thanks again."  I get in the car and sit there for a minute.  Having to make sure she is O.K. I drive to Connie's house.  Ringing the doorbell, she answers.  "Hello, I see you are out.  Does that mean he is out too?"

Growling, I answer.  "Yes, unfortunately.  I need you to go over there and make sure she is O.K. for me, please.  If he harms one hair on her head, I will demolish him."

Letting me in, she says, "Yes, yes.  Let me get my purse and I will go right over there.  She hasn't answered her phone all morning and it has been worrying me."  I watch as she hurries into the other room and comes back quickly with her purse.

"Sit down on the couch, I will be right back."  She points over to the oversized monstrosity in the living room.  The deep red and brown microfiber couch has huge pillows for the back of the seats and the arms are too big.

Anyone who sits in it looks like a kid and when I sink into it, I immediately wish that I hadn't.  I have never felt small a day in my life, being a six-foot two muscular man.  Even when I was in high school, I was built and tall, but this couch makes me feel like a little kid.

Pushing myself up and out, I decide to sit in the black leather chair next to it.  At least, this way I can get up quickly if I must.  Positioning myself so I have an excellent view of the door, I wait for Connie's return or for George to come running in.

Taking my phone out of my pocket, I notice that fifteen minutes has passed by.  Looking around the room, I grow tired of waiting and just before I decide to leave and find Lillian myself, Connie walks in.  She shakes her head and walks over to where I am sitting.

"Boy that jerk needs to go to hell.  He took her phone and won't let her out of the house now.  He told me that I am the only person that is allowed to see her, otherwise if he finds anyone with her, he will make her pay for it."  Seeing the anger in her eyes, I understand that if I try anything, Lillian will get beaten for it.

"What is the matter with that man?  First, he doesn't touch her, cheats on her and he beats her too?"  I stand up and run my fingers through my hair, feeling the heat radiating from my scalp.

I just wish I didn't have my hands tied.  Going to jail wouldn't help her any.  If anything, it would only make it worse and empower him to hurt her.  "Do you think he will hurt her now?"

She looks at me, her eyes trained on mine.  "Possibly, just to teach her who is boss.  He knows better than to do it all the time.  She told me that he did it one other time, when they first started fighting about him cheating all the time.  He almost killed her, by strangling her.  The kids walked in, and their screaming stopped him.

Getting mad, I look at my phone and almost call a few buddies to go over and make sure that he doesn't ever touch her again.  "I just got her back in my life, I am not willing to ever let her go again, especially not to someone who doesn't appreciate her.  Connie, when things cool down in a few weeks I want you to have her over here, then call me.  I will handle the rest.  Deal?"

She nods and I give her a hug because she looks scared for Lillian.  I am too, but the only way I can ever see her again is to follow the plan.  Whenever she can, Connie needs to get her over here.  That's where I come in.

Connie will call me, and I will arrange to be here shortly after she arrives.  Only spending a few minutes with each other at a time, he will never suspect anything.  Then, eventually I will get her away from him.  It may take months, but I will find some way to get him out of the picture for good.

Wishing that I could see Lillian one last time before I leave, I thank Connie and walk out the door.  Looking around, I check to make sure that no one is watching me leave, because for this to work George must trust in Connie.  If he ever gets wind of her helping us get together, he may hurt both.

Double checking as I drive out of Connie's place, I look on the street both ways to see if anyone looks suspicious, but all the cars are empty.  So far so good.  Driving home, I start to remember the feel of her sweet lips on mine and the electric current that flowed through us when our skin connected.  Looking up at the sun, I smile because it reminds me of Lillian.
