Chapter 7: Lillian

With a huge bump on my head and a dull headache, the doctor lets me go home.  Connie waits for me to place my things down on the couch, before giving me a huge hug.  Smiling, she asks, "Are you dizzy at all?"

Sitting down, I glance around the room and shake my head at her.  The kids run out of their rooms to greet me and give me hugs and kisses.  Kelly practically jumps on me before asking, "Mom, are you O.K. now?"

I stare into her scared eyes and realize that this has been harder for them, then it has been for myself.  Hugging them both again, I pat the couch next to me and they sit down.  Feeling the need to explain to them, that I am going to be O.K., I reply, "Guys, I will be absolutely fine in a couple of days.  Right now, I am just a little off, other than that, everything is the same.  So, tell me did you two get your homework done?"

They both look at me and nod.  Knowing that I must show them that things will get back to normal, I tell them to go do something before I keep giving them hugs.  They start laughing with big smiles and walk back to their rooms.

Connie paces around the living room, wondering what to do about George and Jordan.  George had ended up finding out that Jordan visited the hospital when he showed up the next day.  I really should have known because I don't have a brother.

The doctor happened to mention to George that my brother came to visit.  When he turned to look at Connie standing there, he looked like he wanted to murder her.  She ran in my room and immediately told me.  Not knowing what to do, we said that my friend Brad had come, but they wouldn't have ever let him in if they knew he was just a friend.  George knew though.

In the end, he vowed to kill Jordan and make me pay.  Now, I must tread very carefully for a while and then maybe someday I can see Jordan again.  Until then, there is no way possible.

After the kids go to their rooms, George waltzes in with a satisfied look on his face.  Connie and I both glance at each other with a questioning look.  As soon as he leaves and goes back to work, Connie asks, "I wonder what that was about?  He looked so happy with himself, like he killed something."

Staring at each other again, we both said, "Oh, no!"

I hesitate, then add, "What if he can prove it was Jordan?  He can throw him in jail if he does.  Do you suppose that he could get his hands on the security camera footage from the hospital?"

Connie, frowns and sits quietly for a minute like she is pondering something.  When she looks back up, she answers.  "He does have a lot of money.  It's possible that his lawyer could get the courts to have the hospital hand over the tapes to his lawyer and then he would have all the proof in the world he needs.  Jordan was standing there for quite a while and sitting in the waiting room too."

"We have to find out if there are security cameras in the actually patient's rooms too though, because if they don't, they can't prove he was ever near me."  I smile with satisfaction.

Connie smiles and answers, "I am going to call my friend who works there.  Tim can tell me.  He works in security.  She gets out her phone and immediately pulls him up from her contacts.  He answers and she asks, "Tim, got a question for you.  Are there security cameras in the patient's rooms?  O.K."  She gives me a thumbs up and continues.  "What about pointing towards each room?

Watching her face, I can tell it is good news.  She thanks him and when she hangs up, she gives me a hug.  She declares, "He told me that there isn't one in either the rooms or the hallway just outside, facing the doors.  They were cheaply installed, so we got lucky.  They are only at the entrances to the buildings and where the drugs are kept."

Hugging her, I jump up briefly forgetting I have a concussion and fall back down on my butt.  She looks at me concerned, but I raise my hands and suggest to her that I am fine.  while trying to rack our brains what George might be so happy about, we sit and think for a while.  Occasionally we throw ideas out, but really, we have no clue, and I must wait till he surprises me.

When he finally does come home from work, I jerk my head and wait for it.  Knowing that he will tell me soon, I spy Connie looking at him with anticipation.  I watch her as she cringes when he slams his fist down on the table.  Talking to someone on the phone, it is obvious that he is irate about something, and it isn't going his way.

Turning to the both of us with anger all over his face, he starts to yell, "The two of you are up to something and I am going to prove it.  If I must hire someone to watch you 24/7 I will, don't push your luck.  A little birdy told me that your boyfriend was at the hospital, and I intend to prove it, one way or another.  Till then, don't make me angry."

He marches out of the room and slams his door shut to his bedroom, shaking the floor under our feet.  Looking at each other, I crack a smile and Connie starts laughing uncontrollably.  When we get it under control, she suddenly gets serious and calmly whispers in my ear, "I promise that someday you will be free of him and will be in Jordan's arms.  That man's love for you is more powerful than anything I have ever seen."

Nodding, I hug her, and we both get up slowly.  Reassuring her that I am fine, she leaves.  Walking over to the window, I watch the breeze blow the trees around and the sun slowly go down.  I guess I didn't realize how late it was getting and order a pizza.

After about 30 minutes, the delivery driver knocks on the door.  Answering it, pay him with a generous tip and shut the door behind me.  The pizzas do smell good, especially the pineapple and ham one.  I get a whiff of it and my stomach starts to growl.

Calling for the kids to come out and eat, George stumbles out of his room.  I don't know where he got the alcohol, but he must have had a few drinks, because his equilibrium is off, and he almost knocks one of the pizzas clear off the table.  I look at him coldly and yell, "George, watch it.  What do you think you are doing?"

He snaps his head towards me and starts to open his mouth, but then closes it as quickly.  I think because the kids notice something awry, he retreats to his room with a pizza.  The rest of the evening is peaceful, and he never comes back out until he leaves for work.
