CHAPTER 6 "A QUICK WINK FROM DEVIL MAN"

"WELL, I have to admit that, yeah, I have a crush on him. But because it seems that you are his type and it so happened that you are my best friend, you can have him," it was Joyce who followed her words with a loud giggle that called to Mrs. Devantes' attention.

Their teacher's sight flew into their direction and therefore, Ella was not surprised when Mrs. Devantes spoke in an angry tone.

"Miss Capistrano!" she said, giving Joyce a warning look, and immediately the attention and gaze of the entire room are upon them, including Luis who is now standing in front of their class, next to him are two other boys. "Go ahead son, speak up," she added afterward.

"Good day to you all," Luis started.

In those moments Ella prefers to focus on the book that sits atop her desk. She couldn't understand why she does not have the courage to even look at the speaker in front.

“I am Luis Salazar, the basketball Team Captain here at San Luis National High School. On behalf of the whole team, we invite everyone who is interested in joining and loves playing basketball. Tomorrow is the tryout at the school gym, four PM,” continued Luis.

Ella became more nervous upon hearing that.

So he is the Team Captain, meaning to say he is a campus famous, in other words, he is for sure a campus heartthrob.

And because of the fact that she is a cheering squad member, she will for sure see him often. She sighs because of that thought and unintentionally lifted her head and placed her sight on the man in front.

Like a little while ago, she did not expect Luis to be looking at her. And so their eyes met because of that.

She knows a kind of feeling that is so special was awakened because of the kind of gaze the young man gave her. And that said feeling is the very reason why she can't stand to keep looking and have longer eye contact with him so she looked away.

It was only for a moment and she turned her gaze back to Luis. Regardless of the strong heartbeat because of the anxious feeling, Luis is giving her. She did not try to restrain the uneasy feeling because the feeling itself did not want to hold back.

She is nervous and can't really explain why. But now it is clear to her even though she doesn't want to admit to herself the true meaning of her uneasy feeling at that very moment.

Luis is really a handsome guy and anyone who'll see him will surely admire and be captivated by his charm. But she is not yet ready for that matter. She is still young and must focus on her studies. And it will be better if she will act now on fixing herself and cut everything she feels for Luis.

With a quick snap of a finger, the magic that Ella was feeling quickly disappeared when Luis suddenly winked an eye on her.

It was so quick as if to be sure that no one can see it except for her. And as usual, Luis had the same huge amusement in his eyes and so her whole face quickly turned red.

Because of that, automatically Ella felt so irritated.

Most especially when she recalls the annoying kind of emotion she saw in Luis's eyes. Her brow knits at the same time the irritation that she feels intensifies.

"Devil man!" she whispered in a pissed tone and then returned her sight on the book on her desk.

"What's happening to you? Who is that devil man?" Joyce asked whispering.

Ella shook her head and took a pen in her bag. She then started writing on the back of her notebook in all capital letters. "WILL YOU PLEASE SHUT UP? OUR TEACHER MIGHT HERE YOU AGAIN!" she said, giving the notebook to Joyce after.

She saw the naughty and suspective smile on her friend's lips. Joyce took her pen and started writing on the lower part of where she has written. "WHO IS THAT DEVIL MAN? AND WHY IS IT SUDDENLY YOU ARE ANGRY?" Joyce replied.

Ella took the notebook from Joyce and read what she wrote and after a while started writing her reply. "YOU ARE GETTING INTO MY NERVES JOYCE! I WILL TELL YOU LATER, JUST KEEP QUIET, MRS. DEVANTES WILL HEAR US!" she insisted.

"OKAY FINE! ONCE OUR TEACHER DISMISSED OUR CLASS YOU HAVE TO TELL ME. LOOK AT YOU, YOU KNOW YOU CAN'T HIDE IT FROM ME! PRETTY BOY HAS AN INTENSE IMPACT ON YOU, DIDN'T HE?! HAHAHAHA," Joyce teased her.

Ella gave Joyce a warning look who manage to bully her even in their simple way of exchanging letters which they often do.

Well, she's her best friend and after all, she's used to her attitude. It wouldn't be Joyce if she stopped bullying and annoying her.

After a moment, their teacher started talking again. "Did you hear that boys? To all who are interested, sign up today and your tryout for the selection will be tomorrow at the campus gym," it was Mrs. Devantes again.

Not long later, her classmates who wanted to join the team started passing out a folder where they wrote down their names. Then Luis said goodbye and thanked their teacher before coming out of the room and walk away without looking back.

“Now tell me you don't have a crush on him, but I saw you blushed when he winks on you,” Joyce whispered teasing and pierced a finger on the side of her waist that made her squirm.

"You saw that?" Ella asked in a whisper as their teacher started collecting her pieces of stuff on the top of the table.

Joyce smiled and started giggling and places a hand under her chin. "Of course I saw that! I'm just beside you, but I'm not sure if he noticed me that I saw what he did. It seems that you are the only person in this room with him, the way he acted!" her best friend's teasing tone.

Ellas's eyebrows met because of what she heard. "What?"

"You were not looking at him, that's why you did not see what I was saying!" and then she laughed loudly. By that moment their teacher already left the room. "Obviously you are having an intense discomfort. He actually fixed his eyes on you," Joyce continued.

Like a soft feather, those words from Joyce touches Ella's heart. That is the main reason why unknowingly, she smiled sweetly. "That was very nice," it's too late to take it back.

It was when Joyce laughs again. "Admit it! You have a crush on him, right?"

Ella knows there is no way she would be able to avoid her best friend's queries. "Stop it!" she responded instead.

"And who is this devil man by the way? Him?" another question. They do not decrease rather increases.

Ella nodded shyly. "Just keep your voice down okay?"

Joyce's smile seems to be permanently plastered on her face. "You're not answering my question yet," she insisted.

"Yes, okay? My answer is yes!" Ella hissed as she tried her very best not to laugh.

"Yes? What?" Joyce asked with confusion on her face. "Yes, he is the devil man? Or yes you have a crush on him?"

"Both yes, okay? Contented?"

It was then that Joyce started giggling again. "Okay, secret. Promise!"
