My Boy

PROLOGUE

The evening was still young, everyone was enjoying themselves, some taking the opportunity to talk to well-known politicians, and businessmen or businesswomen who could help them strengthen their ties or invest in their businesses. But all were just taking advantage of people for their own good, except for one old woman who organized this party.

She was slaying on her fitted maroon nightgown, she smiled at everyone, and tried to assist them all, she was known to be a powerful businesswoman who owned the Golden Corporation. Everyone was trying to reach out to her, but no one ever succeeded. She may be powerful, but she is also a ruthless woman when it comes to business.

Maribella was walking around seeing some of her acquaintances whom she barely sees, and some of them always thought they were friends with her, but little did they know that Maribella never treats them like her friends, she doesn't have any friends, she was very sensitive and has trust issues. She practically knows what kind her world is, and it has never been easy for her to stay and deal with it. She wasn't happy that she inherited everything her parents had left her. She didn’t ask for any of those things.

She suddenly saw her husband, Antonio De Luca, walking towards her. Maribella couldn't hide the fake smile when she saw how mad he was. She waited for him until Antonio was finally in front of her, trying to calm himself down where he couldn't contain his anger.

“You really fucking want this, huh?” Antonio whispered angrily, referring to their divorce papers. Maribella was calm and didn’t lose her poise as she continued to nod her head smiling at the people who were greeting her, she looked again at her husband while wearing her famous smile, it has deviously grinned.

“You only stay in this boring marriage because of my money, right?” She said, still smiling at everyone. “Let’s talk about this later, Antonio. You wouldn’t want to embarrass yourself here, would you?” She suddenly grinned when she looked again at Antonio, who heavily sighed as he shook his head in disbelief.

“You’re a fucking ruthless woman, Maribella, I shouldn’t have married someone like you.” He clenched his teeth in frustration as he walked away in disappointment as he loosened his bow tie.

Maribella watched Antonio go, who would soon be her ex-husband. She chuckled in pain and grief as she looked calmly around her again, showing off her fake smiles at everyone she sees.

She walked with her beautiful smile over to the newlywed Lorraine and Aaron, who owns one of the biggest corporations in the business world. Aaron was a recent senator who had just retired to take over their Corporation.

“Senator Caswell... oh wait, my bad, It’s Chairman Caswell now, anyways good to see you here.” Maribella smiled at Aaron and suddenly looked at the woman beside him as she also smiled at her, feeling confused because she’s often seeing his first wife, Therese, “Looks like, I haven’t seen her in this kind of gatherings.” She added in confusion.

Aaron chuckled, “Well,” Aaron playfully placed his hands on Lorraine’s waist as he looked at Maribella again, “She’s the love of my life, the real one.” Aaron continued, Maribella knew that it was genuine, and she's a bit jealous of them of having a successful marriage life unlike her who’s having a divorce with Antonio soon, “Happy 45th birthday, by the way,” Aaron added.

“Thank you, and.. I’m glad that you’ve finally found her then.” She nodded at both of them as a goodbye, and Lorraine smiled at her shyly, but it was genuine. They’re really in love with each other.

On the other side, there’s a young man who felt devastated after attending his first love’s wedding with his best friend. Rupert laughed in pain as he remembers their memories together, it’s been months ever since then, and he hasn’t still moved on yet, he looked at them who wasn’t far from his table, they were quietly enjoying the formal party together. He smiled in sadness as he realized how happy Lorraine, and Aaron is.

‘I wish that I was him.’ Rupert said to himself as he sipped on his whiskey.

He stood up as he faced his father, who’s close to being mad after he saw Rupert’s doing and not socializing.

“Jesus Christ! You go and find some investors, you idiot!”Rupert’s Dad whispered to him angrily. Rupert just looked at him like he was kind of bored. His Dad heavily sighed as he looked at his son with widened eyes, “Have you already greet the birthday celebrant?!” He asked in irritation.

Rupert was just looking at him with confusion as he didn’t even know what kind of party they attended at the moment. He suddenly chuckled at his silliness as he shook his head.

“Oh my boy,” His Dad whispered to himself as he almost dragged Rupert to the birthday celebrant who was busy talking to someone else. Rupert didn’t care at all.

“Excuse me, Chairwoman De Luca,” Mr. De Marco politely said. Rupert just looked at his Dad as he took a glanced at Maribella, blankly. “This is my boy, Rupert De Marco, and he wants to greet you.” Maribella has finally paid attention to the young man named Rupert. She smiled at them as she was waiting for Rupert to say something. His Dad hit him with his elbow lightly to make him come to his senses.

“What the fuck?” He suddenly said, he felt irritated by what his Dad just did. Maribella and Mr. De Marco were shocked when they both heard him cursed instead of saying happy birthday. She felt embarrassed and disrespected by Rupert. “Oh, Hbd, Mrs,” Rupert added as he put his hands on his pockets and suddenly turned his back around and walked away.

‘Hbd?’ She asked herself, still couldn’t believe what just happened.

Maribella feels humiliated and looked at his back in full of disbelief while her jaw literally dropped for a sec, losing her poise completely.
