Playing With the Devil's Son

Chapter One

CLARISSA POV

The eerie sound of the piano continued to haunt me as I focused on the long dark red hallway in front of me. My legs were screaming in protest as I ran. My mouth was dry, my breaths were coming out in pants and I could feel my heart crashing against my chest. The ground rumbled with every step they took and I could hear them getting closer. My blood turned cold. I wasn't going to make it.

Sweat dripped down my face and I pushed my aching legs forward. I heard them howl behind me and I knew they were much closer. If only everything would have gone right. I should've just grabbed the pendant and ignored Anthony’s haunting music. My distraction may have caused me my life. Now the hellhounds were after me and Satan was not happy. I gripped my dagger and the pendant tightly in each hand. I looked behind me quickly and I saw the dog-like creatures. They growled viciously and barred their horrible teeth. Terror gripped my body, but I pushed myself further. Only a little more.

A hellhound jumped towards me and I slashed out with my long sharp dagger. A splash of black goo erupted out of the cut and I heard the body hit the ground. Whimpers followed as another hellhound crashed into it. As I ran, I slashed and stabbed any hellhound that got too close. I yelled in pain as one clamped its sharp teeth down on my right calf. I plunged my dagger into its skull and I watched as it completely disintegrated. The other hellhounds took this opportunity to gain on me. Shit. I threw my dagger and I watched it hit its mark. Another hellhound disappeared and I continued to run. Pain shot through my leg and my chest was ready to explode, but I was not about to stop. I barged inside a large dark room with an altar in the middle of it. I saw them pick up speed as they tried to stop me. I scrambled to reach the altar. I screamed at the top of my lungs as I clutched the stolen pendant.

"Take me from the underworld to the living world and free me of the devil within!" I recited and at the last second, one of the hellhounds jumped up and latched onto my arm with its teeth. I cried out in pain as a flash of light illuminated around my entire body.

With a heavy thud I landed on hard pavement and pain ran through my entire body. I groggily looked at my arm and saw it was bleeding. Damn. A flash of light appeared and I came face to face with the hellhound that still had my crimson blood dripping from its lips.

Before it vanished, it growled at me, “I will find you Clarissa, I swear I will.” I shivered. There was no denying that it was the Devil who had spoken to me. I watched as the hellhound begin to shake in pain until it completely disappeared. My heart began to slow as I laid there, completely exhausted.

I did it. I escaped from Hell and I made it to the living world more or less unharmed. I felt tears spilled down my face and I couldn't stop smiling. I did it. Then all I saw was black.

ANTHONY POV

I paced silently in front of the large heavy dark red doors. Satan had called me to him and he didn't even have the decency to let me in right away. I had heard from some workers that a teenage girl had managed to escape Hell which is absurd and impossible.

"Come in, Anthony", he called and I knew if it were anyone else they would have started to shake and tremble in fear, but I did not. I walked into the large room and it matched the red of the door. He sat at a large black desk in the center of the room and there was a small fire burning in the corner. There was a large bookcase overflowing with books. Probably containing the "How to be a Devil" guide.

"What do you need, Satan?" I asked blatantly, skipping the formalities. He turned in his chair and faced me. He had dark hair and black eyes. He was very good looking. He had the body of a strong 25 year old and his face was young, it showed no sign of his true age. He was wearing regular clothes, but his hands were horrendous claws with sharp nails. He has the power to transform into a human to hide his true form and I assumed that he had just started to turn back.

"Clarissa Johnson, an eighteen year old girl has managed to escape from Hell. I need you to find her," he ordered angrily.

"You want me to go to the world of the living to track this girl down?" I asked just to make sure I heard right. Was he insane?

"She has the pendant and I can't let some condemned girl possess it. If she were to misplace it or give it away, we are all doomed," he explained and he ran a hand through his hair frustratingly.

"She took the pendant?" I asked shocked. She must have a death wish ... for everyone.

"Yes, and you only have a short time to get her back or else…. you just need to get her back. You'll have six months to do so”, he exclaimed. I frowned. Or else what? What is he hiding?

"What did this Clarissa do to be sent here anyway? She is so young." I asked curiously.

"You will find out yourself eventually, my son," he answered with a grim smile and he waved me off. "You will have one day to prepare for your leave and here." I heard him snap his fingers and an odd rectangular thin, plastic shaped object appeared in my hand.

"What is this?" I asked confused as I turned it over.

"A credit card that will allow you to buy anything you will need in the Living World. Do not lose it. Also, don't forget your training. Become invisible to the human eye, it can be very useful. Work fast and don't get distracted," he said firmly.

"Of course, father," I answered and turned to walk away.

"Wait!" he called out as I left and I looked back with an eyebrow raised. "At all costs do not fall in love with a human,” he warned me with a stern look and with a nod, I was dismissed.

I walked out of the large room and made my way down the hallway. As if I would ever fall in love with a lowly human. That would be such a cliché. I was intrigued with Clarissa though. Once I reached the end of the hallway, I turned left and walked into the room.

"Anthony, baby, I missed you,” my latest conquest said. She was blonde and blue eyed. Not exactly my type, but she would do.

I smirked as I walked closer. I pulled her close to kiss her and she didn't stop it. As we kissed my hands went under her brown dress and I pulled it completely off. I continued to kiss down her jaw and towards her neck as she reached up to play with my hair. I took off my shirt and we touched skin to skin. She pushed me towards the bed and I knew packing would wait for a bit.

TATIANA POV

I climbed out of our very expensive car and in my black six-inch stiletto heels and my red Marc Jacobs dress. I waited patiently while my dad and my stepmom walked out as well. I watched as the cute valet guy got into our car. I turned away once the car started and we began to walk towards the tall building. I tripped in the death traps I was wearing and my mom, as I call her, steadied me.

"I can't do this," I said. I had spent weeks walking around the house in these heels and I still didn't have the hang of it.

"Tatiana, you need the practice and you know you have to hold an image for your dad," she told me as she squeezed my arm sympathetically.

"Fine," I muttered bitterly and I attempted to start walking again.

I would choose a pair of converse or flats over these any day. We walked up to the posh hotel and the doorman let us in. I wobbled unsteadily in my shoes, but thankfully my mom was there to help me keep my balance. We went into the elevator and straight up to the penthouse. My father knocked on the door and a middle-aged man answered with a broad grin.

"Lucas Davey, come on in! Tricia and Tatiana, beautiful as always. How are you all?" He asked as he shook our hands and kissed my mom and I on the cheek.

"Quite well, what about you and your family?" My dad responded smiling. Marcus Little is a well-known millionaire and my dad's good friend. He had a son my age, who is known to be very smart. He also happened to be New York’s favourite eligible and hot young bachelor. His son, Darren, won an award for building and developing an impressive AI when he was fourteen or something crazy like that.

"We are all fine and the rest of the guests should be arriving soon," he answered warmly. "Tatiana, dear, my son should be around. Why don't you go find him?" he asked me, smiling.

"Of course," I answered, politely and I walked off as my parents began to mingle with the rich.

"Tatiana, gorgeous dress. You should totally model," Suzy Candes cooed and I knew her comment wasn’t genuine. I smiled and kept walking, but I still managed to catch a glimpse of her looking at me with disgust. New York’s high society tended to be such snobs and I should know. It seemed that everyone wanted to use the other for their own benefit and anyone that fell behind were worthless.

"Tatiana! How are you?" Darren asked me and he took my hand to kiss it. Shocked, I didn’t respond. Once he straightened up I got a good look at him. I was suddenly very aware of how short I was because even in six-inch heels, I only stood at 5’8 and he was still at least five inches taller. He was tall, but his body was quite fit to go with it. He had light brown hair that was messed up to perfection. His green eyes were shining brightly and his movie star smile was blinding. He was not my type, it was almost as if he was just too good looking. I don’t know if that makes any sense. I forced a polite smile.

"Did you seriously just kiss my hand? This is the 21st century," I told him.

I turned to walk away, but he had walked around me and stood right in front of my line of vision. I could tell he was taken aback by my reaction. He probably didn't use to being treated this way, especially by a girl. I had no interest in someone who was so entitled and overly confident.

"I was trying to be romantic since you are going to become my girlfriend," he stated confidently and he smiled again.

"Excuse me? What?" I demanded. Gross. Who is this guy?

"Why do you think you're here? Our families have arranged at our birth that we would get married,” he informed me, smirking.

"Screw you, Darren." I snapped and stormed off. When I saw my dad I made no attempt at lowering my voice. "Thanks for telling me."

I walked out of the penthouse and I hurried to get outside. I could not wrap my head around the fact that this was now my life. I have no interest in getting married, there is so much more that I want to do. Although, marrying an obnoxious stranger is just the ironic twist that needs to be tossed in. I’ve always lived my life taking into consideration my father’s business and it is the least that I can do for the amazing things that he has provided for me. Except, I cannot just allow my life to be planned out without having a say. How could they do this to me? Who plans an arranged marriage anyway?

I took off the stupid heels and I turned off my cell since my parents keep calling me. I felt people staring as I walked down the crowded street. I even noticed that some were taking out their phones to take my photo. Of course, Tatiana Davey, a New York socialite, walking away from a very prestigious party with her shoes in her hands… what could that mean? I rolled my eyes, I was always tired of the fuss that gets created over the silliest things.

I turned into a quiet park and walked along the smooth pavement. It felt hot underneath my bare feet and I liked the feel of it. I decided that I would hail a cab to get back home. The idea of laying down in my bed and watching a movie seemed extremely appealing. That’s when I noticed a girl dressed in a dirty, ripped, brown dress on the ground. Worried, I walked over to see if she was okay. Fear ran through me as the metallic smell of blood filled my nose. I realized that she was passed out and it was her arm that had a horrible gash in it. Without a second thought I ripped the bottom of my dress and I tied it tightly around her wound to stop the bleeding. I didn't realize meeting her would change my life forever.
