Chapter Two

PWTDS Chapter 2

CLARISSA POV

I was consumed by darkness and I didn't know what to do. Suddenly, a hellhound jumped out at me and I shot up screaming. My brown eyes flew open and I was sweating. I wiped my forehead and my heartbeat slowly returned to normal. I look around and realized I was in a large room with dark wood furniture. I looked at my arm and it was covered with bandages. Where was I? I climbed out of the double bed and I realized I wasn't wearing my usual dress, but I was in a pyjama, I think. My head turned when I heard the door open and I quickly took a fighting stance. I was about the jump when I saw a girl my age walk in.

She had wavy black hair that fell below her shoulders and bright blue eyes. She was petite and short. She looked shocked when she saw me standing and ready to kick her head in, but she composed herself quickly and smiled warmly. I still didn't trust her. I kept my guard up.

"Good, you’re awake. I was getting worried," she said, softly.

"Who are you?" I demanded, my eyes narrowing.

"I'm Tatiana Davey and I saved you from the park" she explained.

"What do you mean saved me?" I asked still unsure whether I should trust her. She smelt like a human though so she couldn't have been sent by the Devil himself.

"You were laying in the park unconscious and bleeding. So, I brought you here to take care of you, but I would have brought you to a hospital except your arm was... umm... different", she said her brow furrowing. She didn't know anything and she was just trying to help me, I realized. I felt the tension leave my body and I slowly dropped my arms.

"How long have I been unconscious?"

"It's been two days," she replied. “That’s why I was getting worried.

"I don't really remember anything, but thank you for taking care of me. I should get going now," I mumbled, quickly.

"You can't! At least, not until you're healed because that was a bad wound," she exclaimed and walked over to me. I got defensive again, but she just kept going anyway. I don't know whether she's brave or stupid. She lifted my bandages and gasped in surprise. Underneath them was smooth skin and not a single scratch left.

"That's not possible... I mean it would have taken at least 3 weeks for a wound that deep and infected to heal. Wha...what are you?" she asked, horrified.

Within 5 seconds I had her pinned against the wall with my hands around her throat. The look of fear in her eyes was exhilarating and when I was about to kill her she managed to gasp out "please...don't." Our eyes locked and something clicked inside of me.

My eyes widen in terror and I dropped her. I stepped away, scared and I looked at my hands in horror.

"I'm so...so sorry." I whispered hoarsely and she just looked at me with pure fear, but she didn't run. Definitely stupid.

TATIANA POV

I sat against the wall as my heart continued to beat furiously and I stared at the odd girl across from me. Subconsciously, I rubbed my throat and winced slightly. She had layered blonde hair and brown eyes that were ice cold when she was about to kill me but now were soft like chocolate. She was tall and slim, like a model, but she was deadly. Although, she was still covered in dirt and I was going to tell her to shower before she attacked me.

"What's your name?" I asked, finally to break the silence.

"Cla...Clarissa," she whispered and she refused to look at me.

"What are you?" I asked again and she looked up to meet my eyes.

"If I told you, you wouldn't believe me," she finally answered and gave me an empty smile.

"Okay, fine, but will you let me help you without having you kill me?" I asked slightly joking, but also very serious.

"Okay, I promise and I'm sorry," she apologized again and got up to face me. I couldn't explain it, but I felt the need to help her and I wasn't scared.

"All right, follow me then. We need to get you cleaned up," I said and extended my hand out.

"What?" She asked frowning, but she still took my hand. I didn't answer and brought her down the hall into our large washroom.

"I'm going to give you a mini makeover and then I'll tell my parents you're a friend of mine so you can stay here because they don't know that you've been here for the past two days," I explained and she just nodded. "So, go take a shower and I'll wait outside."

"Uhh... alright", she answered and took the towel I handed to her. I waited for about 15 minutes when she opened the door to tell me she was done. I walked in and she had the towel wrapped around her nice frame. I made her sit down in front of the counter and took out a pair of scissors to cut her hair.

"Wait! What are you doing?" she demanded, her eyes wide.

"Just trust me, okay? I'll trust you when the time comes," I promised and she looked undecided, but nodded anyway.

I began to trim her hair slightly and fix her layers. When I was done I pulled out some brushes and the hairdryer. I began to dry her hair and brush through it. In the end, she had soft blonde hair falling down her back perfectly.

"Before we continue how about some music?" I offered, grinning.

"Alright, but I haven't listened to music in forever," she answered looking apologetic. I walked to my room and grabbed my speaker. The All-American Rejects began playing and I started to sing along. Clarissa looked at me like I was crazy, but for once in a long time I was having a lot of fun. I started dancing around and just letting go. She got up and started doing the same. By the end of the song we were both laughing and out of breath. For a weird freaky girl, she was a lot better than most of my rich friends.

ANTHONY POV

I left the room with the blonde girl I barely knew and walked towards my own room. I was glad I would probably never see her again. I pulled open the door to my bedroom and I stretched out my arms. In the middle was a king-sized bed. There were candles lit all around my room and the typical red was seen on my walls and on my furniture. I walked over to my bureau and grabbed a black backpack. I threw in a few necessities for the trip. I tossed in a ring that lets the wearer see whoever they are searching for. A small device that holds the spirits of demons that I could use to help me and another device that held a net that could immobilize whoever it wraps around. Also, a piece of clothing the Devil gave me that belonged to Clarissa, so I could give it to a Hellhound to track her down.

I blew out all the candles and walked out with the bag on my back. I made it to the entrance of our home or should I say mansion. I had to walk a while until I made it to the official portal only used by trackers or messengers. I walked outside and everything was dark. It was always night in Hell and I couldn't complain. I hate the sun. I passed by very small houses and watched as I saw the condemned walk about taking care of their things. Many humans believe Hell is where the damned work for all their life and they are tortured every single day. That is not the case at all and it actually amuses me how different it is. All the human luxuries they were used to when they were alive are taken away, but they still have lives. They have a certain amount of work to do, but not to the point where they are exhausted. It looks like the living world except darker and colder. My dad lets them do whatever just as long as they aren't a threat.

I continued my walk until I made it to the portal and I walked in to see Marisa. I mentally groaned as she walked over to me trying too hard to be sexy. Her chin-length brown hair swayed as she walked towards me and her boring brown eyes tried to catch mine, but I just turned away.

"Anthony! You never called me back after that night and I miss you so much," she whined, pouting and jutting out her lip which reminded me of a bulldog.

"I told you, I wouldn't call you Marisa. It was a one-time thing and it meant nothing. So, get out of my way," I snapped, impatiently. She looked at me with utter devotion and I rolled my eyes. I pushed past her when she didn't move. How desperate and pathetic can you be?

I walked into the portal and I felt the usual dizziness. I blacked out and my stomach continued to turn uncomfortably. When I blinked my eyes open I was in a dark alley and I could smell the gas from cars and the pollution in the air. I knew I had made it to the world of the living based on the smell. I walked out and the sun shined brightly. I squinted my eyes and began my search for Clarissa Johnson.

I finally made it to a busy street and I walked by all the sad humans rushing to get along with their lives. I had the ability to tell who would be going to Hell by the colour of the aura surrounding people. The brighter the red meant a definite entrance to my world whereas blue was Heaven. I continued walking until I made it into another deserted alley and I opened up my bag. I took out the small device that contained the demons and I placed on the ground. I recited the incantation and with some arm movements, a Hellhound appeared. It watched me through its blood-red eyes and its skeletal body was ready to attack at any moment. Globs of saliva dripped from its mouth and it was growling softly. I reached into my bag and threw the piece of clothing that belonged to Clarissa. It sniffed it and howled. I watched in delight as some humans shivered and picked up their pace. They obviously couldn't hear the howl of the undead, but they did feel its presence.

"Find me the girl, demon," I ordered and it took off running. I followed quickly after and I matched my speed to it as it ran faster. I had to capture this girl in six months and I would only need one, I thought to myself smugly.

TATIANA POV

I stroke the soft brush across her cheeks and I stepped back to admire my work. Clarissa looked like a model and she was so beautiful. She had silky blonde layered hair that fell down her back and her chocolate brown eyes flashed with confidence, but there's was something that told you that if you messed with her she would kill you. Which I know, first hand is true. Her cheeks had a healthy soft glow and her makeup was very simple but effective.

"Finished," I announced, smiling. She turned around to look in the mirror and her jaw dropped.

"Is that seriously me?" she asked, her eyes wide.

"Of course and you honestly look amazing," I told her.

"Tatiana, thank you so much and you are so talented," she said, but she didn't make it sound fake like all the other girls would.

"Thanks, but come on, time to get you dressed," I exclaimed smiling and grabbed her arm to lead her to my room. She flinched at my touch but didn't pull away. When we got into my large bedroom I brought her over to my walk-in closet and threw open the double doors. We walked inside and Clarissa was frowning.

"Pick whatever you want," I offered.

"I... I can't... It's not right,” she mumbled.

"I don't care and you kind of have no choice. Considering you have no clothing," I said shrugging.

"What about my dress?" she demanded.

"I threw it away since it was in shambles," I explained.

"Oh my go-" She started to say, but instead she started screaming in agony.

"Are you all right?!" I yelled and rushed over to comfort her. She shoved me away and started coughing. My eyes widened when I realized there was blood coming out of her mouth and I immediately reached for my phone.

"No... don't... call anyone..." she managed to say between coughs.

"Bu-but your blood." I gasped in disbelief and she reached up with her hand and gripped my wrist.

"Prom-promise me... you won't... call anyone," she demanded forcefully and her grip tightened. I could feel her nails digging into my skin and I relented.

"Okay... I... I promise," I told her and she let go of my wrist.

"Hurry, get me a bucket," she yelled and then she clapped her hands over her mouth. Without a second thought I grabbed the small thrash can I had in my closet and gave it to her. Seconds later she was throwing up blood and I turned away, so she wouldn't feel weird.

"All right, I'm okay now," she said and she wiped her mouth. She was acting as if what just happened was completely normal and I seriously needed to figure out what was wrong with this girl.

"Whatever you say," I answered and got up to go to the small intercom.

"Linda?" I asked once I pushed the red button.

"Yes, Miss Tatiana?" she answered.

"I got a nose bleed and now it's all over the carpet in my closet could you please clean it up once I leave?" I asked.

"Yes, Miss," she responded and I turned away from the intercom to face Clarissa.

"What happened? Are you sick or something?" I asked my eyebrows pulling together.

"Of course not. It's just a freak accident," she responded, shrugging.

"All right then, if you aren't going to pick what to wear then I'll do it for you," I announced changing the subject for her and I watched as her shoulders relaxed.

"I trust you, especially in the beauty department," she answered and flashed me a small smile.

"Okay, let's get started," I exclaimed and walked off to the side to look through my clothes.

CLARISSA POV

I watched as Tatiana walked around her closet gracefully and I was almost jealous. She looked through her clothes and she would turn to look back at me. I was sitting on the ground fiddling with plush carpet and thinking about before. I couldn't believe the rumors were true about the damned saying God and it was horrible. I could still taste the blood in my mouth and I just wanted to forget about Hell.

"Take these and try them on," Tatiana ordered as she handed me a bundle of clothing. I felt excitement race through my veins because this is the first time in a long time that I was going to wear something other than that brown dress.

I quickly slipped out of what I was wearing and changed. I twirled in front of the mirror and Tatiana smiled. I was wearing a pair of black skinny jeans and a soft maroon turtleneck sweater. They fit me perfectly and I felt beautiful.

"You now have the choice to wear any type of shoe," she told me and gestured with her hands to the back wall. I looked up to see rows upon rows of shoes. I walked over and took a pair of black Doc Marten boots.

"Good choice," she told me smiling and just smiled back. Being back in this world is a lot better than down there and I was definitely enjoying myself. This rich Tatiana girl seems like good company for my stay or at least until I need to leave.
