Chapter Seven

TATIANA POV

I was biting my nail as I waited impatiently across from Claire. It has already been two hours and I wasn't sure what to do. Linda was taking care of her and I knew already it wasn't anything life threatening, but what scared me the most was her blood curdling scream before she passed out. She sounded like she was absolutely terrified and I didn't know what to do. Her blonde hair was sprawled across the pillows on my bed and she laid there peacefully.

You would think she was dead besides the steady rise and fall of her chest. I need to know the truth because I can't handle someone who vomits blood and who falls unconscious at random moments. I have to talk to her about this because it was getting way too creepy for me. I sat against the wall across from my bed and played with my hands. If I really stop and think about it, I barely knew anything about her and I wasn't even sure if she had parents. I brought my legs up and rested my head on my knees. What was I going to do?

I felt someone shake my shoulder and I groaned, annoyed. The shaking became more persistent and I opened my eyes slowly. I blinked a few times to let my vision clear and I was looking into Clarissa's chocolate brown eyes. I must have fallen asleep. I noticed my room was dark and the only light was from the moon shining down onto my floor. It was dark, but I could still see pretty clearly. I guessed it was about ten o'clock at night.

"Hey, Claire. How are you feeling?" I mumbled and wiped my eyes.

"Better, I'm sorry if I freaked you out before," she said and sat down next to me.

"You better be, I almost had a heart attack when you screamed. When did you wake up?" I asked softly.

"About ten minutes ago and I would have woken you up sooner, but Linda wanted to make sure I was fine," she explained matching my soft tone.

"Can you tell me what happened? What caused you to scream like someone was about to slit your throat?" I asked and turned my body towards her so I could face her.

"It's complicated, Tee," she answered simply.

"Fine, I get that, but I think I can keep up," I retorted and she nodded her head.

"I don't doubt you will, but it's just not the right time," she responded.

"The hell with, it's not the right time. Tell me. You owe me," I responded and she sighed. She rubbed the back of her neck as she thought about it. She looked so confused. Almost like a little kid who was lost.

"I'm sorry Tatiana, but I need to make sure I trust you enough," she said finally.

"How can you not trust me after all that I've done for you?" I asked frustrated.

"I don't doubt you won't tell anyone, but it's a little more twisted than you think," she replied and patted my arm softly.

"Fine, but throw up blood or pass out screaming, you are telling me EVERYTHING!" I warned her through narrowed eyes.

"Okay, deal." she said and gave me her hand. I shook her hand and we grinned.

"Let's go to bed," I told her and we got up to get ready. I’ll let it go for now, but I couldn’t help but wonder what she could be hiding that was so terrifying.

The rest of the week went by fast and thankfully nothing weird happened to Clarissa, but I was still curious. I had to go to work on Thursday and I was afraid of running into Anthony, but thank god he wasn't there. I still felt a twinge of regret though and in a way I wish I did see him. Darren continued to ask me out and talk to me, but I kept turning him down. Whereas Clarissa has been asked out by at least five guys within three days and she rejected them all. I also finally managed to get a hold on Alexander Wang and he said he wouldn't mind having Samantha, Claire and Leah for the show.

It was now Friday and the lunch bell just rang. I made my way outside across the tables in the back of our school and made my way towards our cube. Everyone was already sitting down, eating and talking.

"Hey, guys. I have some great news and you all can't say no." I announced and smiled as they all looked at me with a ‘this better be good’ face.

"Spit it out, Tee," Leah teased and took another bite of her sandwich. Her hair was in a messy pink bun and she was wearing a light green top with plain skinny jeans. She had a look of impatience plastered on her face, but winked to let me know she was messing with me.

"I called Alexander Wang and since I didn't want to be alone I asked him if he wanted three more beautiful models and one of which likes fashion and photography," I told them and watched as the information sank in.

"Don't tease me!" Leah warned and watched me suspiciously.

"I sent him pictures of you guys. Then some pictures you took, Leah, and he wants us all down there next next saturday because the test run thing this Saturday is cancelled. It will also be with the other girls, sadly," I explained and all their faces changed.

"No way! Talk about insanely wicked!" Sam exclaimed and her bright red and black bangs fell into her eyes. I smiled back as she pushed them away without a second thought.

"Tiana, how can I thank you? This is amazing! My first possible job," Leah said dreamily and her auburn eyes shined.

"Sounds exciting," Claire added and grinned.

"As much as this isn't my scene, I really want the experience and being able to say, I did a fashion show at least once in my life" I told them and they all nodded their heads in agreement.

"This will possibly open so many doors for me," Leah said happily. "I just can't believe this is actually happening."

We all ate and once we were done we talked about different things. We made arrangements as to how we would all get to the airport and it was decided that I would drive. The bell rang and we all went off to our classes. I had my art class so I grabbed the supplies I needed from my locker.

I walked into the art class and sat down in front of any easel. At the moment, we were working on different painting techniques and I was pretty excited. I placed my paint brushes neatly as everyone else settled in and started talking to each other. I threw my books under my chair and from the corner of my eye I saw someone take the empty easel to my right. I turned a bit to see who it was and I was surprised to see it was Darren. Of course.

"What are you doing here?" I asked before I could stop myself and I silently cursed myself.

"Art, obviously," he responded grinning and I rolled my eyes.

"No, shit. Shouldn't you be in technology or something?" I asked annoyed.

"I've already learned all that stuff and now I figured I could learn this," he replied acting as if he was unaware of my annoyance. I was going to make a retort when the bell rang and it cut me off. Mrs. Marley walked in and placed her bag down by her wooden desk. She was in her early thirties and really eccentric. She was thin and a little short. She had purple and pink streaks in her mousy brown hair. She wore a bright orange top with a pair of jeans covered in paint splatters.

"Alright, class pick up your paintbrushes because your next project for the semester is painting what matters the most to you. You will have a month to complete this and I would like you to use at least one of the new techniques we have been learning about," she explained and clapped her hands to let us know we could start.

"Don't forget to look deeper inside you to find what you want," she advised us and walked off to her own easel.

I frowned as I bent down to pull out my purple notebook. I grabbed a pen at the same time and leaned in my chair. What matters the most to me? I stared at my blank canvas and let my mind roam freely. Art. I'm always calm when I'm either drawing, painting or sculpting. Then again, my family does mean a lot to me, even though I get to see them every once in a while. I began writing down my ideas in my notebook and I dipped one of my paintbrushes in some blue paint and watched as I mixed the liquid around.

Then someone tapped me on the shoulder and I screamed in surprised. I spun around to glare the person and it was Darren. He was on the verge of laughing and already, people were staring at me for yelling. I fought the urge to tell them to mind their own business. I gripped the paintbrush tighter and I didn't realized the paint was already dripping to the floor.

"What the hell was that for?" I hissed and I pointed my paintbrush at him. My eyes widened when I realized I had just splattered a ton of blue all over his clothes and his oh so perfect face.

"I just wanted to ask you a question, but apparently that means attack me with paint," he responded and looked at the mess I had made. I stifled my laughter and his head shot up.

"You're laughing at me?" he asked with his eyebrow raised and I burst out laughing. He had blue all across his shirt and some splotches on his face.

"I... am... so so... sorry" I managed to get out between my laughter and his eyes narrowed. They twinkled mischievously and before I could react he hit me with some green paint.

I looked down at my loose one shoulder black top and saw a huge glob of green right in the middle. There was even specks of green on my grey skinny jeans.

"Oh... This is WAR!" I yelled and grabbed a tube of paint next to my easel. Before he could react, I squeezed the tube of yellow paint towards him. He dodged and it hit another girl with brown hair. I gapped as the yellow goo ooze down her hair and she spun around, her eyes flaring.

"How dare you!" she screamed and swung her paintbrush. I ducked in time, but she hit another guy and he was covered in purple. He spun around and noticed her holding her purple paintbrush, innocently. A wicked smile spread across his face and he attacked her. The whole room erupted in screams and paint was flying everywhere.

"Angie! I just got this top!"

"Oh my god! You are going to die, Drew!"

"I always knew purple would bring out your eyes."

"Stop attacking me!"

"Gross! I got some in my mouth!"

I chuckled as I heard pieces of conversations between people. Without missing a beat I joined in and attacked Darren. I grabbed a whole bucket of red and dumped it on his head. Next thing I knew, I was hit with a spray of orange and brown. I saw from the corner of my eye the brown haired girl squeezing green onto another girl and laughing as someone hit her on her back. I watched as a guy spread the paint he just sprayed on his friends face with his brush.

It was complete chaos and I nearly died when someone dunked Mrs. Marley in blue paint. I was in the middle of laughing when I felt some type of liquid hit my head and I touched it with my hand. It was a purple paint and next thing I knew I was getting ganged up by three guys. I screamed for help and everyone was laughing. This was so intense and so much fun. I felt someone grab me around the waist and crushed me against their hard chest. I broke away and turned around to see my back. It was covered in red and I knew it was Darren before I saw him grinning from ear to ear.

"You are so going down, Little," I growled and I shot my paintbrush out. He ducked and the yellow paint hit a grey suit. My eyes widened in horror and I gulped.

"ENOUGH!" the school principal, Mr. Ronald roared and everyone froze where they were. We all watched, terrified as the last blob of orange paint flew across the room. It felt like it was suspended in time as it flew towards our principal. Everyone’s eyes were wide as we waited for it to hit its mark. It was so quiet, I swear I heard the paint hit his head. He wiped the paint off his face with an angry motion and he glared at everyone, but it lasted longer on me. Mrs. Marley walked towards the principal briskly and the sound of snickers ran through the class because she looked like a smurf. In fact, everyone was every color of the rainbow and even our hair was covered in paint. I looked over my arms and they were so multicolored.

"This isn't funny, whatsoever!" Mrs. Marley snapped and we all shut up pretty quickly. She was flustered, but you could only tell by her posture since her face was blue.

"Who started this whole mess?!" Mr. Ronald demanded loudly and we all cringed away. No one moved forward and I knew no one would rat me out.

"No one is going to admit it? How does a full month of detention sound for this whole class? Which will also mean cleaning every classroom until they shine," he hissed angrily and his face was turning red like a tomato.

I was about to step forward and tell him the truth when Darren pushed me back. He gave me a look and I understood it, without him having to speak.

"It was me, sir. I started this whole crazy mess," he lied and I stared at him in disbelief.

"Oh, well Mr. Little you can come with me to discuss your punishment and everyone else go get cleaned up. After you will come back and clean up this room until the end of class. I also expect to see you all back in this room cleaning for your hour detention at lunch," he told everyone and made a motion towards Darren to follow him. I couldn't let him go alone even if he wanted me to.

"Wait! Sir, I provoked Darren and that's why he started it," I called after them before they left.

"Very well, Miss Davey. You can join us as well," he said sternly and I nodded obediently. I walked forward and I followed them out.

I could hear a clock ticking because that was how silent Mr. Ronald's office was. The whole office was pretty boring and normal. There was a wooden desk in the middle with a plaque that said his name. There was a computer and some paper placed neatly on his desk. He was sitting in a dark chair and the walls were a soft beige color. I could feel my energy being drained just by being in such a boring room.

I shifted uncomfortable as he stared at use through narrowed eyes. His sandy blonde hair was short and he wore his grey suit and paint. He looked about in his mid-forties and he was known for being really strict.

"Alright, I've decided since you both confessed and it is your first time. Your punishment will be two weeks of detention. So, every day after school you are both stuck here for one hour," he finally told us and I let out the breath of air I was holding.

"Okay, thanks sir,” I told him and crossed my legs impatiently.

"Make sure this doesn't happen again and I will be call your parents. If it does happen again, I will suspend you," he warned and dismissed us quickly.

The minute we walked out we noticed the trail of wet paint on the ground and the group of kids still covered in paint besides their skin waiting outside the bathroom for their friends.

"We should go wash off like the rest of them," I stated and I looked down at my legs.

"Good idea," he responded chuckling. "That was the most fun I've had in forever."

"Seriously?" I asked, surprised.

"Yeah, I've got this image to hold, Tiana," he said bitterly and grimaced.

"Who cares? Just be yourself and let go. The world can't hate you for having fun," I retorted and stuck my tongue out.

"Maybe, I will. It kind of depends," he responded and shrugged.

"By the way, I obliterated you in that paint war," I teased and twirled away.

"I don't think so because your red back say it all," he teased back and I smiled.

"Who put the red paint there in the first place? That's right, me" I said and smirked triumphantly.

"So, funny," he told me sarcastically and I grinned.

"You know, why were you going to take the blame for everything?" I asked softly.

"I figured I'd rather get in trouble than you," he replied and he wouldn't look at me.

"Yeah, but I still started it," I said slightly confused.

"I just didn't want you to get in trouble over something like that and I wanted to prove that I really do care about you," he said quickly and I stood there, stunned.

"Ughh, well thanks, Darren." I said and I felt some heat rise to my cheeks. I walked into the bathroom before he could say anything else.

I grabbed some paper towels and rinse them in hot water. I pumped some soap onto the wet paper and began rubbing off the paint. I watched as the color mixed with the water in the sink and I was amused for a while. I tried my best to get as much as I could from my hair, but it was no use. I walked out with wet multicolored hair and clothing, but with my normal skin colored arms. I sighed, I couldn't believe the paint wouldn't come out of my hair and about Darren's confession. I would just forget about it for now.

I tried to run my fingers through my usual raven black hair that was now dry paint clumps. I saw Darren and he looked just as bad as me. We spotted each other and I felt this weird feeling, but I pushed it aside. He looked me over and we both started laughing.

"We have about fourty minutes before our next class, what the hell are we going to do?" I asked jokingly.

"Let's be rebels and skip," he responded with an eyebrow raised. “We’re already going to be stuck cleaning during detention anyways. Are you too scared?” he challenged and I smirked.

"What are you? Twelve?" I sneered. "I say we vandalize the principal’s office and say he eats children."

"What? Are you insane?" he asked surprised.

"I would be, if I was actually serious. Come on, let's get back to my place to clean up," I offered.

"Okay, and I knew all along you were joking, Tatiana," he said way too obviously.

"Let's take your car and I'll send a quick text to my friend to let my other friend know she has to drive my car home," I told him, rambling away and ignoring his comment.

ANTHONY POV

I threw my bag onto my back and made my way towards the mansions I last saw Clarissa at. I walked slowly and casually. I honestly didn't feel like working or searching for some crazy chick who thinks she can escape the Devil. I shook my hair and let it fall in my face. I felt people staring at me and I shrugged it off. My mind has been set on Tatiana for a while now and I didn't want the attention. What was I thinking? I don't give a damn about Tatiana, she is just some human girl. I was so deep in thought I hadn't realize I had already made it.

I looked from side to side to make sure no one could see me and pulled my bag off. I took out my box of demons and recited more than one incantation. With a few of hand and body movements I had a hellhound, an imp and another demon. The movements I had to do, contributed to the reason why I never wanted to call on demons in public. I closed my eyes and concentrated until I was certain no human eye could see us.

"Find me the girl and you can do whatever you want to her. Just as long as she remains alive," I hissed.

"Of course, Master Anthony," The imp responded and an evil grin covered his face. The hellhound growled and the demons eyes flashed a bright red.

"Get rid of anyone who gets in the way and if you find her, I might let you eat as a reward," I offered and the eagerly nodded.

I followed as they ran off and I felt it in my gut that Clarissa was still here. I would not lose her this time, especially since the demon can fly. I wasn't going to take any chances today. I felt determined. The hellhound sniffed around the area we were at the other day and then took off running. It howled and I felt my adrenaline rise.

We were running along the street and zooming by tall mansions. The hound stopped running and sniffed around. I didn't realize I was still in the middle of the road and I didn't care since humans couldn't see or touch me.

Suddenly, I felt something hit me and was thrown off my feet. I landed six feet away with a sickening crunch. I laid out on my stomach and I looked up to see a midnight blue Mustang. How the hell did that hit me? I could feel a sharp pain in my side and I knew I had some internal bleeding going on in my body. I wasn't worried because I could already feel the scratches and bruises healing already. Which meant my insides would be next, but until then it was too painful to move. The dizziness in my head slowly disappeared and I saw a pair of converse running towards me. I could feel each step the person took through the ground and I reminded me of a fast heartbeat. I had my head on the ground with my eyes closed, but I opened them when I felt the person near. To my surprise, I was greeted with eyes as blue as the ocean. I saw her get on her knees and try to brush off some gravel from my exposed skin. I felt her check my pulse and she pushed me onto my back.

"Ti...ana" I managed to moan and her head shot up.

"How do you... oh my god! Anthony, is that you?" she demanded in complete shock.

"Yeah, it's me," I said and half smiled as I winced.

"Are you an idiot or something?! You appeared out of nowhere and we hit you!" she practically yelled and I propped myself up because I was almost completely healed.

"Thanks for yelling at the victim" I said sarcastically and she rolled her eyes.

"Suck it up, sweetheart," she snapped.

"Who's we?" I asked, catching her off guard.

"Darren... and I," she responded softly.

"Your fiancé..." I said trailing off and I couldn't look at her. She didn't answer, but I could tell by the silence.

By now I could completely sit up and I tested out the arm I had landed on. It was fine and I slowly got up. My side didn't hurt anymore and nothing was bruised. I offered my hand so I could pull her up and she took it.

"Thanks," she mumbled. "Are you okay, now?"

"I'm fine, nothing damaging," I replied a little cold and I knew she had picked up on it.

I saw from the corner of my eye someone walking towards us and I didn't need to see who it was to know.

"Hey man, you alright? You literally popped out of nowhere. One minute we're driving and next you went flying," Darren said walking up, rubbing the back of his neck nervously.

Seeing Tatiana and Darren standing side by side I just realized they both had paint all over their clothing and hair. I felt a spark of jealousy and I quickly composed myself.

"It's fine. No harm, no foul," I told him through gritted teeth. "Nice style, by the way."

"Paint war. It was intense," Tatiana said and smiled at me tentatively.

"Cool, well I've got to go. Bye," I said and turned to walk off.

"Why not come to my house? We can all clean up," she said and I turned around. She had a soft smiled on her face and I felt myself falter.

"Alright, sure," I heard myself say and I saw a look of annoyance cross Darren's face. That made me happier. As we were walking a scratchy and faint voice spoke in my head.

"Where are you going, Master?" It asked and it rang through my skull.

"Continue looking and tell me if you find her," I responded and walked on as if I was human.

We got into Darren's Mustang and I was put in the back. We were in the car for about another two minutes and we arrived at a very modern looking mansion. I would guess it was about six years old. It was grey, white and black. I watched as Tatiana unlocked her door and we all walked inside. I was shocked to how large it was and I could almost rival my place back home. She turned to smile at us and I felt a smirk place itself on my lips. I looked at Darren from the corner of my eyes and he looked like he belonged in this rich house. I wanted to punch him.

"Alright, there is a washroom down here with a shower and everything. Go down the hall and the second door to the right. I'll go up to the one upstairs," she told us and walked up the stairs. I made my way to the downstairs washroom when I felt someone pull me back and I spun out of the grasp. I was going to kill this guy.

"How to do you know Tatiana?" he asked suspiciously.

"Don't worry, mister fiancé. I'm just a friend," I told him, smirking which caused him to scowl.

"Remember, I am her fiancé and if you ruin that, you will see how much she will lose," he warned through narrowed eyes and I snickered, but made no retort.

"You don't understand how this all works," he hissed and I walked away. That guy needed to loosen up and I knew Tatiana would have more fun with me anyways.

I walked into the washroom and the color was a brown with a nice soft blue. There was a white shower and I opened the cupboard and pulled out a towel. I turned on the water and let it run a bit. I quickly undressed and got into the scalding hot water. It felt nice the heat and it soothed my tensed muscles. I still didn't understand how the car had hit me.

The only solution I could come up with was that Tatiana or Darren have been in the presence of a dead person, but the chances of that are one in a million. Unless, when I spent the night with Tatiana, but it should have worn off by know if that was true. Maybe I was wrong and it lasted longer. I shut off the water and stood there confused. It had to be because she spent the night with me, I thought because what other dead person could she know? It definitely could not be Clarissa because the chances were too low.

I got out with the towel around my waist and took another one out. I quickly dried my hair and left it as a mess. I looked over my body and I was satisfied to see just my pale skin and my colorful tattoo. I slipped on my skinny jeans and my black t-shirt. I hung up the towels and walked out.

I made my way up the stairs and Tatiana had just walked out of her room. Her hair was now back to its normal black and she was wearing some checkered pajama bottoms with a black tank top. She still looked beautiful to me, I realized, but I shook my head. I don't care about her.

"Hey, you look better," she said offering me a small smile and I felt myself return it.

"You don't look like a messed up rainbow anymore," I replied smirking and her smile widened.

"There's the sarcasm I'm so used to," she said playfully and I laughed.

"Where's your fiancé?" I asked.

"Would you stop calling him that? And he's taking his shower now," she responded without emotion.

"Fine, then what is he to you?" I asked and more demanding this time.

"Let's change the subject," she snapped and I stepped back.

"Whatever, Tatiana. I've got to go anyways. Bye," I told her coldly and turned away.

"Why... why did you take care me the day I was drunk?" I heard her ask me and I stopped. That was what she was wondering about?

"Maybe because for some freak reason, I care about you," I heard myself reply stiffly and I clenched my fists. I needed to leave and now. I walked off quickly before she could say anything that would make me stop.

I ran out of the house and kept running. I concentrated until I was hidden from everyone’s sight. I called for my demons and within five minutes they were by my side. I couldn't get distracted anymore and I needed to focus on my job. The growling of the hellhound brought me back and I glared at it.

"What?!" I demanded angrily.

"Master, he smells the girl on you." the imp replied and before anyone could react I hit the dog. I still felt the stinging once I had placed my hand back down.

"That isn't possible and since it can't perform its job, I will obliterate it!" I yelled and my eyes flashed. There was a dark light and then a wisp of smoke from where the hellhound was.

"Of course, Master," The imp said and stepped away. Even the demon was cringing away and I felt a horrible smile cross over my face.

"Fail me again and that will be both of you next time," I warned and called them away. I made my way back to my hotel and I crashed onto my bed. An unexplainable anger filled me and I knew it was because of Tatiana. Why do I care so much about a stupid human girl?
