Chapter 8

Eric checked his phone realising he had actually missed his mother's calls. He had been too busy with Emma and had completely forgotten his mother asked him to be home early because his dad wanted to discuss about something.

Eric got home several minutes later and hurried inside the house.

"You're late," His dad said, as he walked into their mansion.

His parents were at the dinning table, they were done eating and the maid was picking their plates up already.

"I am sorry, I got caught up," Eric said, sitting at the table.

"I called the office, you weren't there."

"I went out for a while."

"To where? I have been calling you all day. This isn't how business is done."

"He is sorry," his mum said, glancing from him to his dad.

"Your son needs to learn how to keep to time and that he can't just wander off to God knows where," he said, cleaning his hands with the towel. "That's not how someone who wants to one day manage a group of company behaves."

"I am sorry," Eric said.

"Your dad has something to say," Flora said, glancing at his dad.

"I wanted to tell you about your half brother."

"Half brother?!" Eric explained, glancing at his mum for answers.

Her face was expressionless and devoid of emotions like she knew about it before.

"Mother," Eric called, glancing from her to his dad.

"Your mother knows."

"Mother," Eric said, facing her and she nodded in agreement.

"It was before I met your mother."

"So, that's it."

"I will bring him around the office so you could show him how things are being done," his dad said.

"I want to go inside now," Eric said, standing from where he had been sitting.

"Are you not eating?" His mother asked.

"I am not hungry," Eric said then went into his room.

He lay on his bed as several thoughts came to his head. He wondered if things were going to be different now that his dad had another son.

He didn't want to think much of it and so picked his phone to chat with Emma and hoped she wasn't asleep.

Eric: "Hey, Are you awake?"

Emma: "Yes, I am."

Emma had replied almost immediately.

Eric: "Seems like someone was expecting my message."

Emma: "Don't flatter yourself."

Eric: "I am not, just saying."

Emma; "I couldn't sleep."

Eric; maybe you were thinking of something or someone.

Emma; and what might that be?

Eric; me

Emma grinned from ear to ear as she read his messages. She had been writing since she got back and needed something to distract her when Eric texted.

Eric; what do you want to do?

Emma ; watch a movie, maybe.

Eric; what movie?

Emma; crazy rich Asians. Have you seen it?

Eric; Not at all

Emma; where do you live? Under a rock?

Eric chuckled. He was either always at work or doing some work at home. He wasn't someone who watched a lot of movies or even any at all.

Eric ; since you've seen it, why should we see it again?

Emma; because some movies are worth the second watch.

Eric; if you insist and it better be worth it.

Emma laughed and they decided to FaceTime to watch it together. Eric slept half way through the movie and Emma laughed at him, while taking a picture to show him later.

Emma finished watching the movie, making it the 3rd time she was watching it.

"And on today's episode of  "all things love" we will be talking about "fate and destiny in meeting your true love,"

"So Jane, do you believe in destiny?"

Emma listened to the podcast as she hoped into the bus. She was unusually early today and had even left home before her mum.

She got to work just in time.

"And that's today's episode of "all things love". Don't forget to love and never stop loving."

Emma removed her EarPods, as she walked into the restaurant.

The place was near empty, they only had a middle aged woman taking coffee in a corner of the room.

Mark wasn't around, it was only Anna. Mark never came late to work. Emma wondered what might have been wrong with him.

Few minutes after Emma got in and was settling in, Mark walked in.

He looked like he had just woken up from sleep and even with that the eye bags and dark circles underneath his eyes made him look like he was in a zombie apocalypse.

"What happened to you?" Emma asked, concerned as Mark wore the restaurant's shirt over his.

"I had a long night."

Emma was the only one Mark actually spoke too at work. They both talked about different things and shared ideas on several topics too.

"You don't look good."

"I was up all night for an assignment I had to submit and I got home late last night because of piano lessons."

"Don't you think you should take it slow, cut some classes so you don't break down."

"I am going to be fine. I have to. I need all these to get into pre med."

"Are you sure?" Emma said, rolling her eyes at Mark.

"Maybe not all but most of it."

"You need to give your self a break. You're young. You don't want to leave high school and the only memories you have is that of you being valedictorian."

"You say that like it's a bad thing." They both laughed.

"I mean, it's good but have fun. You're going to get into pre-med anyways but you won't relive this high school moment."

"What if I don't care."

"Trust me, one day you will wish you did those stuffs."

"I don't think so."

"Try it, take time off. Party, do all the things high schoolers do."

"No one sits around here all summer. Summer is when people experience new things and make new friends."

"I don't need all of that and I am not sure I will like parties and all."

"You have to try something to know how it's like. Just try it."
