Chapter 2: What He Sees.

Chapter 2: What He Sees.

(SEAN)

Another morning in my world and it is not great as ever. Well, nothing is great in my world. The birds are chirping, the sun is shining, the coffee in the dining table is warm, the breakfast is delicious and my house is peaceful as ever. What a cliché.

That is not the world I’m talking, those are just a shitty adjectives in my mornings.

“Sir, here’s the daily newspaper,” my trusted attendant, Tomas said as he hand me a newspaper.

I took a sip in my dark coffee as I read the newspaper, nothing seems interesting just about some celebrity couple breaking up, a car bumped into a post, a hurricane in northern America, a new approved bill, etc, etc, etc. I placed the newspaper in the table and started to eat my breakfast.

“Clear all the schedules I have for today,” I ordered Tomas who was standing behind me, “And I want to see Montley. I believe he has something to pay me.

“Right away Sir,” he replied.

All the people around me follow my orders because I’m their Boss. Now the question is what’s my job? That is a scary question. I’m a Mafia Boss. A bad guy, an enemy, a criminal, evil, villain or whatever you like to describe. We sell, transport and buy different kinds of guns and any explosive devices. We also lend large amount of money and of course, we kill. The one thing that I don’t like is drugs, so we don’t do drugs.

After breakfast I rode my car with Tomas driving it and headed to our lair. It’s just a building where I work and our hideout. The police don’t easily catch us because I have a lot of connections in the government, some public officials who need my help. That’s why the government should not be trusted because most of them have a dirty big secret.

“Good morning Boss,” Gino, one of my men, greeted. I ignored him and continue to walk with Gino, Tomas and some men who were following me. I’m not a morning person and I’m not a happy preppy that likes to greet and chat with other people. I’m more than a reserve, compose and not easy to read person. I like it when people get scared of me and they get the hell out away from me.

“Boss, Montley is already on your office and he tried to run away that’s why he’s being held captive right now,” Gino said as we reached my office. I open the door and saw Montley being held by two of my men.

“You like it rough?” I asked as I sat on the edge of the table facing him.

“I’m s-sorry B-boss!” Montley stuttered, his face is in horror.

“No, that won’t do, you know that,” I said calmly looking at him coldly, “Where’s the money and the hard drive?

“I don’t kn---” I slap him in his face, good thing he is being held by my men or else he already fell to the ground.

“Answer me.

“I swear Boss I don---” I slap him again his face is now already red.

“Just tell the truth Montley,” Renard, one of my men, persuaded him.

“I don’t really know Boss, I am telling the truth!” he said desperately.

I pointed my pistol at his mouth, “Since you don’t want to speak, why don’t we just remove your mouth?

“O-okay! I’m going to s-speak just please spare me!” he cried “J-Jackson have it!” he spilled.

“Where is Jackson?” Tomas asked.

“I-I don’t know! H-he just disappeared after we took the money and the hard drive! I don’t know where he is!

“So you went in my office without my consent,” I stated.

“I’m very sorry B---”

“I don’t want to see your face,” I waved my hand to my men who were holding him telling them to release him. He looked at me and my men then he hesitantly went to reach the door.

“Forever,” I clicked the pistol aiming his back and he fell to the ground, bathing in his own blood, “I hate it when people meddle with my things. Dispose his body,” I ordered and the two men who were holding him carried his body out of the room. I took a cigarette and lit it. I sighed. It’s too early to kill someone.

“Sir, I’ll order someone to find Jackson immediately,” Tomas offered. I nodded as I puffed some smoke.

“Boss, are you in a bad mood?” Gino suddenly asked. I stared at him. He’s the dorky type of guy. I don’t really know why I hired him maybe because I need someone who will make the bad atmosphere in our building disappear.

“I think he is,” Renard commented. He’s very loyal to me. He will kill himself if I told him so. Somehow, that’s scary.

“But I have to tell you what Miss Margaux said or else she’ll kill me,” Gino chirped.

“Spill it,” I demanded.

“She said that “Family Dinner exactly six o’clock at the mansion, don’t be late.”” He said in just one breathe.

“And here I am hoping to have a peaceful day,” I sighed as I puffed another smoke. And this is how my day works, doing some papers, meeting some clients, buying some guns, chasing some people who wouldn’t like to pay their debt, flying outside the country and sometimes killing someone. This is the life I’ve known. My parents knew about this because my Papa is the previous boss of our business, it was pass down to me. Like I told earlier, even though we did illegal things and one of the feared syndicate in the country, we are not wanted.

It is one hour and a half travel to reach our mansion because it is far from the city. My family like it quiet and peaceful so we bought a place outside the city. Our residence is literally big. We have our big mansion, ranch, garden, swimming pool and we also have a lake inside our property. Even though we have a big property I often live here since I have a business to run. I live alone with some maids and Tomas in a two storey house located in the city.

“Good evening and welcome Sir,” Jarvis, the head butler greeted as he helped me took my coat off.

“Fratello! Benvenuti a casa,” my sister, Margaux cheerfully said as she was walking down the spiral staircase. (Trans: Brother! Welcome home)

“Grazie,” I thanked her as I kissed her cheeks. (Trans: Thank you)

“Mama e Papa sono gia di tavolo da pranzo,” she grabbed me towards the big dining hall where Mama and Papa were already in there and some maids who are preparing some foods. (Trans: Mama and Papa are already at the dining table.)

“Mama e Papa fratello e arrivato!” she announced. (Trans: Mama and Papa brother has arrived!)

“Gabriel!” Mama hugged and kissed me in the cheeks, “As usual, you never came late,” she smiled.

“Of course, Mama,” I smiled back, “Papa,” I acknowledge my father and he nodded as he took a sip of his cup of tea.

“Quello che stiamo aspettando? Let’s eat!” Mama announced and we sat down on our seats. My family likes to have family dinners since we just barely see each other because of work. This is a tradition that we must not break, my Mama told me. We are pure blood Italian we just live here in this small city in America. (Trans: What are we waiting for?)

My Papa, Geronimo, is a very strict, serious, compose and scary man, I guess I inherited that. But he loves his family more than anything else and he got whipped by Mama. He doesn’t want to Mama and Margaux to get involve in our business.

Celestina, my Mama is very caring, loving and the mother you ever wanted. Even though she knows about our dirty business and even though she doesn’t support us, she said that as long as we won’t get hurt she will not interfere. At first she doesn’t like Papa’s work but she loves him so much that she didn’t said no to him.

Margaux Lane, my twenty years old younger sister is the annoying one. She’s very cheerful, nosy and a spoiled brat, she attends a fashion school. Although she is the exact opposite of me I love her so much. I also admit that she became a spoiled brat because of Papa and I. Mama always scolds us for spoiling her.

“Sean, did you already found Montley?” Papa asked even though he passed me the leadership of the gang he’s still hands on in everything.

“Si, but he told us that Jackson has it. We’re still on the process of searching him,” I answered. (Trans: Yes)

“Boys, I told you that no business talking while we eat,” Mama scolded.

“Scusa,” both of Papa and I said. (Trans: Sorry)

“Tomas, I want a day with Fratello, write that on his schedule,” Margaux demanded Tomas who was behind me standing. (Trans: Brother)

“You must first tell me that,” I corrected.

“You’re still going to tell that to Tomas. I’m just saving some time,” she countered.

“What if I said no?” I questioned.

“You wouldn’t,” she answered confidently.

“I don’t like to spend time with you. You always drag me everywhere and that includes shopping and shopping and shopping... Oh and shopping,” I complained.

“If you don’t then I’ll just spend time with Papa,” she said.

“I’m quite busy, Cara,” Papa said. (Trans: Dear)

“Since none of you wanted to spend time with me I’ll just go out with George,” Margaux announced.

“Margaux, Sean is very happy to go out with you,” Papa said with finality and demand to me.

“Really?” she looked at me with raising an eyebrow.

“Si,” I nodded.

“Good!

“Who’s George?” I inquired ready to have a background check on this person.

“No one, I just made up a name,” she answered slyly.

I looked at her, she and Mama chuckled. She always gets what she wants.

People can say that we are just a normal rich Italian family but we are beyond that. We have dark secrets. I still feel empty. In my twenty five years of living, there is so much of adventure and die risking action but I still want something. Honestly, I want to be freed from this nightmare. I’m tired of this kind of life. I know Mama wanted me to quit too but I guess this life is a no turning back. Once you are in the dark, it will swallow you to the point that it is impossible to get out. I wanted to be in the light. I need someone who will save me from the dark.
