Chapter 06: Cambré

Cambré

The classical ballet term Cambré means “arched”. A Cambré describes an arched movement of the upper body, bending from the waist upwards, and can be done forwards, backwards or sideways.

"Dance? Can I even dream of a comeback?" I

asked myself.

My eyes drifted from my bed to the wooden floor which I eyed carefully.

Before I knew what was happening, my body lifted itself off the bed and sat up straight.

With the help of my cane, I was able to pull myself from the bed and stood up straight. I attempted to let go off the cane but I couldn't.

The chandelier incident flashed in my head immediately and resulted in shock for my body causing me to fall on the bed again.

How did the chandelier fall by itself though?

I shook my head and my eyes caught a red stain on the polished floor. I looked further and saw the stains in multiple places.

Is that from the Jaden the assistant?

With another help from my cane, I got up from the bed and walked to the assistant's room.

This is weird, I'm the boss. I shouldn't be bringing him a first aid kit.

He saved your life.

You can just leave it down though.

What's the use if I just do that.

I shouldn't be over thinking such trivial matters.

You should knock, what if he's not wearing clothes?

A blush creeped into my cheeks as I remembered the incident from earlier.

I raised my hand and knocked on the door twice before entering. He was sitted on the stool and was in a position to remove the glass pieces inside his leg.

Pushing the door wider, I walked over to his bed and ended up helping him with his leg.

Immediately I touched his leg, my heart skipped a beat because it felt like I was touching his bare body as I did earlier.

"This might hurt." I nonchalantly warned, ignoring the rapid beat of my heart.

After I entered my room are collapsed into my bed, I took a deep breath to calm my heart and buried my face into my pillow.

What is wrong with me? Do i need to get checked?

"Miss M..." I heard someone faintly call.

"Miss Marielle!" The voice echoced through my room and I jolted up from my bed with a scream.

"I'm sorry to disturb you but the police are downstairs, and they would like to see you." Jaden the assistant informed.

After I brushed my teeth and took a bath, I was escorted downstairs by Irene and took a seat on the sofa.

"Miss Curtis, we got information that someone broke into your house and tried to harm you. Is this true?" The white chubby police officer asked.

"This information is false. Is that all?" I openly dismissed.

"But based on the broken window at the end of the back door, I will say that there are signs of forced entry."

I sighed, "If there's a sign of forced entry then there was forced entry, don't you think?" I snarled at him.

The police officer shook his head lightly before before bringing out a piece of paper and a pen.

"Let me start this again," he forced a smile. "I am officer Daryll from State PD. I have a few questions regarding the incident that occurred in your house, late last night." Officer Daryll introduced.

"Very well, take a seat." I pointed to the ash colored couch next to him.

"Thank you, now can you tell me exactly what happened here last night?"

"I was with Irene, my butler all day. She left late last night and after seeing her to the door, I was about to go upstairs but then the chandelier made a strange noise, when I looked up it looked as though it was about to drop but I was stuck under because it felt like my big accident years ago but then my assistant sav-" I paused and glanced at Jaden the assistant.

"Took me out of the way." I completed.

"I'm sorry that had to happen to you Miss Curtis. But who else was home during that period?"

"Just my assistant and I."

"No maids? Guards?"

"The gate is very modern and opens only from insi-"

Hold on.

No one from outside can break in unless the gate is opened from inside. Which means someone from inside opened.

But no one was home.

EXCEPT

JADEN THE ASSISTANT.

Not just my eyes but the officer's eyes tested on Jaden.

"I need to ask you a few questions Mr assistant." Officer Daryll informed.

"Where were you between 8 and 9?" The officer questioned.

"I spent almost all day cleaning the garden." He answered.

Officer Daryll nodded slightly and moved around a bit.

"Do you have a security camera, Miss Curtis?"

"I do."

I can't believe this. I brought a stranger to live with me, what was I thinking.

"Could you please show me the control room?"

"Sure. Down the hall, third door to your right."

Officer Daryll walked in front while Irene held me to the control room with Jaden the traitor walking behind us.

"Miss Curtis, I didn't-"

I shot him a death glare causing him to shut up and walk silently.

The officer searched for the clip of last night and we found that the clip for last night was completely erased.

"Miss Curtis, the only suspect available is your assistant. May I take him in for more questioning?" Officer Daryll asked and I nodded.

"Miss Curtis, I di-"

"Shut up. Take him away officer." I said.

The officer put Jaden the traitor in handcuffs and took him away while Irene pinched my skin.

"What?!" I yelled feeling very irritated.

"That young man doesn't look like someone that would even hurt a fly Marie. Think about it, how did he get time to clear the garden, cut the ropes and erase the footage from the security camera?"

"He was probably sent here to murder me, Irene. I can't take chances."

"What the hell?! Marie, that is the same person that hurt himself trying to save you!"

He did hurt his leg.

What if saving you was just for show?

"Okay fine, point taken. Now can we hurry, so officer Daryll doesn't leave with him?" I finally said.

Irene took my hand and walked as fast as we could to get to the gate.

It seems we got there right on time because they were already seated in the car.

"Officer Daryll!" I called, but it was not loud enough.

"Officer Daryll!" Irene called out again, louder.

"Yes?"

"I don't want you to stress much on this case. Please let my assistant go." I softly commanded.

"But a while ago yo-"

"I changed my mind, officer."

He grumbled something under his breath before he opened the door allowing Jaden the traitor to step out and he removed the handcuffs from him.

"Before I forget, who made this complaint on my behalf?" I questioned the police officer.

"A Mr Justin Tim." He answered and I nodded.

That darn man!

"For a minute there, I thought you doubted me, thank you for trus-"

"I might have not let the police take you but it doesn't mean I trust you either, don't get it twisted. I want you to pack all your stuff and get out of my house."
