Eight

I'd been using my ninja skills since the incident to avoid everyone, especially Aisha and Zain. Before everyone woke up, I would have left for school and before they arrived back from work, I'd been in my room.

I didn't think I would be able to use my ninja skills because Alhaji had prolonged Zain stay because of some family matter.

During dinner, I was always the first one to finish my meal and flew back to my abode- my room.

Everyone had been wondering what happened to me but I didn't want confrontation especially from Aisha.

As usual, I took a small portion of my food even though I wanted to eat all, so I ate quickly and bolted off but unfortunately for me, Aisha had already calculated my movement.

I entered the kitchen; looking left and right, tiptoeing inside the kitchen. I dropped my plate and turned only to come face to face with Aisha. I stilled, my heart pounding vigorously as if it wanted to be removed from my rib cage.

She was holding the remnants of her drool stew before she poured it on me and I flinched.

"Oops, my bad," she said sweetly, using her hand to cover her mouth.

"It's okay" I replied quickly trying to dash out from the kitchen but before I could leave she gripped me on my wrist tightly so that I knew it would bruise.

"Warning girl, stay away from my husband karuwa*," she stated. (whore).

I couldn't say anything because I knew, I should stay away from a married man but I couldn't stop myself from wanting him.

"He is mine and if I see you near him again; I swear I will ruin you, I will make your parents - especially your father - disowned you," she declared while I gulped fearfully, she noticed it and had a wicked glint in her eyes. I didn't have a perfect relationship with my father.

"Oh ! I see, you are doing all that you could so that your father can recognize you as a daughter right?" tears welled up in my eyes but I refused to shed it and give her the satisfaction of seeing me weak. I calmed my beating heart and put on a strong facade that she didn't get to me.

I wondered how she knew all these, how she knew that my papa didn't recognize me as his daughter.

Bitch!

"You are wrong Aisha, I don't even recognize him as a father and the last time I checked it was the husband who is running after me, not the other way round. So talk to your husband!" I reacted calmly with heads up while she scoffed.

"Now please, let me go. And don't forget to sit your husband down to stop running after me" I uttered sarcastically and removed my wrist from her grip but before I could move forward. Aisha pushed me hard making me hit my side with the sharp edge of the table. I screamed with the intensity of the pain that circulated around my body.

Hajia came in at the moment and called others. My side hurt like hell.

Mubarak strode in angrily and held her in a tight grip. I knew he was furious and I needed to calm him down before I could reach his side; Hadiza walked me out to my room. When I got to my room, everyone was trailing behind me. I told them to stop following me because I needed to be alone and think.

I put off my shirt leaving me on my bra, I checked my side and noticed the wound was very deep and looked purplish before I could walk to take the first aid box. The door to my room opened revealing a worried-looking Zain.

We stared at each other before my brain could comprehend that I was half naked. I screamed 'get out' and threw the pillow at him. He ran out making the throw pillow hit the closed door.

Phew! bad timing, I thought.

"I'm sorry Rukky, I didn't mean to come inside like that, I was just concerned. I need to know whether 'You are okay'" He apologized but I didn't reply to him.

He used more than thirty minutes behind my closed door trying to talk to me and apologized but I was not in the mood.

" I'm sorry Rukky, Please talk to me, I know I'm at fault. I supposed to have a knock but I just need to know you are okay. Please don't shut me out and if you need anything, I'm always one call away. I love you" he mumbled softly and his footstep faded away. I held the door handle and slumped down, sitting on the floor crying hard. I didn't know how but I knew my life had changed.

~**~

Weeks had gone after what happened but Aisha never let me be, always used every opportunity to verbally abuse but all I did was to turn a deaf ear on her rants because I knew she was right but you couldn't control who your heart chose.

I was coming back from school with the girls after we were through with our course project when Aisha and her squad started to mutter some words.

Ashawo

"She came all the way from Lagos and wants to snatch someone's husband, Mai satar miji*" (husband's snatcher)

They continued to speak loudly, I heard everything but I repeatedly sang in my head to remain quiet. I needed to put a stop to all this nonsense. The girls were shooing them away.

I walked towards Aisha while she had that stupid smirk as if she won the war but I grinned sweetly at her which outraged her. Her face was red with anger.

"Aisha, what's the meaning of all these?" I asked her.

"What does it look like, mai lalata gida*?" She replied, before bursting into laughter with her crews. (homewrecker).

When she stopped her fit of laughter, she growled, "Leave my husband alone" she snapped while I waddled my way towards her while she glared at me as if I'd grown another head while I smirked back unaffectedly.

I shook my head "I never hold your husband but it was like your husband can't control himself from me" I enunciated the words slowly while she clenched her fist. I walked forward, making her move backwards until her back hit the wall. I smiled, I liked this game of chase.

She was the prey while I was the predator wanting to devour her.

I brought my lips to her left ear but enough for the girls to hear what I wanted to say.

"Your husband-my Zainny" I laughed tauntingly. "I never chase him or want him as mine. I don't even love him but all what he always says to me is 'I love you, I will always wait for you' but as he ever says that to you before?" I chuckled lightly, feeling a powerful thrill in my body.

"I've not done anything to your husband but he's always running after me," I said slowly my voice was dark and void of emotions but was giving a sinister warning. "And don't push me to take him away from you completely and not only him," I said strongly and whispered in her ear "and your son" she swallowed thickly. I loved the feeling.

"I know what I can do to make him mine; I mean completely mine and he will forget he ever had a wife and not only him but your son also. I will make both of them forget about you. Don't push me to the wall. I'm a Yoruba girl and I know what to do to make him mine without consulting the wizardry or clerks to make him forget and your son too. He will forget he had a mother. And trust me; I can" I spoke sweetly like I'd not threatened to snatch both her husband and son while the girls gawked at me. I left them speechless. And I liked that fear that was emitting from Aisha.

Aisha brought her hand up to slap me but I swatted her wrist away, "if I were you I won't try it" I smiled.

"Are you threatening me" she grinded her teeth.

"No, I'm just telling you what would be the best for you" I clapped and shooed her crew away when the show was over.

I left there with heads up, I was very happy to instil fear in her. As we were walking, the girls couldn't stop talking about the scene.

"Wow, I like how you put her in her place," Fatima said with happiness and excitement.

"Why?"I smiled.

"She always feels like she's the only one and always in control. What I love most was the fear in her eyes. How I wish to snap it and it would give me great satisfaction to make it go viral" Hadiza pouted while I laughed.

"But are you going to do what you said," Zainab asked me curiously. The other girls stop walking and talking, waiting for my reply.

I nodded my head, "yes I will if she pushes me to my limits"I spoke with determination.

"How?" they asked in unison

"Trust me, I'm not talking about using the love portion" I replied meekly, feeling their gaze on me.

"Then what?," they said in unison again while I groaned.

"Stop talking together joor" I whined while they rolled their eyes.

"I'm from Ilorin, a Yoruba girl and Ilorin people are known for what?" I inquired while putting both my hands at my waist.

"Deceit," they said it together again.

"Yeah, that's what I'm gonna use,"I replied. Leaving them with their mouths open.
