Chapter 2- Along for the ride

*Augustus POV*

I sat on our tribal home's back porch, peering out towards the beach. My mind was racing. "Something feel's weird about that family" I stated, but i couldn't pinpoint why they felt, or smelled, weird.

"That's because macho one and two of that family are werewolves" Briar said as she leaned on the doorframe looking at her younger brother. "They've already shifted"

"But that makes no sense, why would other werewolves be coming here?" I asked, turning my head around to look at Briar.

"That's because they don't know who they are or where they're from" A deep husky voice came from around the corner, Benjamin, the father, walked around the corner. "Remember our oldest story, about the two tribes and the cold ones?" he paused and before got an answer he continued "there were two tribes here at one point, they lived in harmony with each other, shared their lands and resources"

"Yeah and then the cold ones came and started reeking chaos on the townspeople, there was a huge blood war between the tribes and those vampires" I finished my fathers story. "In the story it said that other tribe was all wiped out"

Benjamin cracked a smile and chuckled. "Not all of them, what survivors of the tribe were left, they left oregon with our tribes help and they scattered to the winds"

"So these werewolves are descendants of that tribe? Well at least there's only two of them" I said "not trying to say they're not welcomed, but im weary about them"

"Alexander and Warren aren't the ones to be worried about" Briar rolled her eyes, and i turned quickly to look at her. "Oh c'mon, you can't tell me you haven't thought this through?" Briar raised her eyebrow and sighed deeply. "Alexei and Andrew are also werewolves, and not only that they're twins just like the other two, but they also haven't shifted yet, we have to keep an eye on them because if Alexei and Andrew shift that means vampires are in the area" Briar said as she strolled out of the doorway and into the grassy yard below the porch. "You coming with me Augustus?"

I sighed deeply and rose to my feet. "We're gonna spy on them huh?" I asked and Briar just gave me a sly grin. I shrugged my shoulders and started focusing on the shift. Rather quickly as it started it was over and I rose as a chocolate brown and black wolf. I shifted my weight on my paws and looked to Briar who stood as a snow white wolf, and she nodded her head at me.

We began to race into the forest, running as fast as we can until i hit a familiar scent and stopped in my tracks. 'This scent is of Alexei's' I thought, using our wolf mind link to talk to Briar.

'Okay, you follow that scent, and i'll move around here to see if i can get a glimpse of Alexander and Warren' She thought back and continued on her way.

I softly began to follow the scent through the woods when i saw their house. It was all dark outside and inside so the family must be sleeping. 'But her scent is so strong out he-' he was in mid thought before he finally turned his head to see a figure leaning against the tree. I slowly, and quietly padded up to the figure to see it was Alexei. Her red hair was sprawled across her pale face. She looked so small and vulnerable. Something inside me was telling me to get closer, but the voice was hushed so I had easily ignored it. 'What is she doing out here?' I thought to myself as i looked around to see if anyone else's scent could be found. 'I'm surprised Andrew isn't here' I thought before laying down just a few feet away. 'Does she not know the forest can be dangerous' I silently acted like I was scolding her in my head. I had this dire feeling of needing to protect her that wouldn't just halt or fade, and was a way louder voice.

'August, find anything?' I heard Briar's mind link.

'Alexei is sleeping outside'

'Wait what?'

'Yeah she's laying up against this tree' I thought back and began to hear Briar's footsteps as she came next to me.

Briar sat down next to me as her dark eyes studied every inch of Alexei. 'I wonder what she was doing out here, it's not safe to be out here by herself' she told me. 'We can't sit here and guard her all night, one of the family might see us'

'but if Alexander and Warren are werewolves can't we just go get them?' I asked back.

Briar shook her head 'the house is too open for us to not be seen by the others in our form right now, and it would still be weird'

"Im sorry to cut whatever mind chat y'all doing but exactly what are you doing?" A voice snapped both my sister and I's attention to see Alexander and Warren staring at us. In response i turned by head to look at Alexei, who was still peacefully sleeping on the tree.

Alexander sighed deeply and crouched toward Alexei. "Jesus" he muttered as he looked towards warren. "I'm guessing your Brair and your Augustus" he whispered softly, and he didn't seem like he was threatening us.

"Warren, can you get Alexei inside, and try not to wake her?" Alexander asked as he went down and with ease picked Alexei up.

Warren, with a gracious nod towards Briar and I, took Alexei in his arms and began to walk back inside.

My eyes lingered after Warren, a little sadness panged my heart as Alexei and Warren vanished inside. Then i turned by head to see Alexander had turned into a huge red and brown wolf, now he didn't look too happy to see us.

I stood to my feet and stared back at him. 'We weren't meaning any harm' I looked to him as he sighed deeply.

'I know that, but i need to know all that you know' Alexander stated, it was not a statement either. But oddly i felt compelled to tell him.

'We know at if Alexei and Andrew turn it means vampires are coming back to town' I said, in which Briar shot me a cautiously warning glance. I sighed deeply. 'We honestly were just here to keep an eye on them, cause if vampires come back here, it could mean everyone would be in danger'

Alexander nodded his head 'We know this, James, our adopted father, was apart of a tribe who use to occupy part of these lands' he then turned a more threatening glance and growled 'although we appreciate the worry, but do not come close to this house like this again, Alexei and Andrew are part of our tribe, but they remain in the dark about their heritage, we will protect them, we cannot risk them seeing you and they're already becoming more aware of the familiarity of this place'

I slowly ducked my head and sighed and looked to Briar who stared at Alexander coldly.

'Is that a threat?' Briar finally piped up, locking eyes at Alexander who was still easily bigger than her.

Alexander shook his head. 'It doesn't have to be, im not saying you're not allowed here to do you're looking around or whatever, but don't get caught or you will have us to deal with' he said and turned his back, shifting back to his human form and leaving us there at the edge of the forest line.

'Lets go home Briar' I said nudging her, taking her concentration away from the Taylor house. She finally reluctantly turned to follow me back to the house. 'C'mon i'll race you' I stated and began bounding quickly away as Briar tailed me the entire way.

It was a long night after we arrived home. Briar had abruptly went to bed without saying anything, but irritation was coming off of her in waves. I sat at the table and sighed, too restless to sleep. My mind racing with thoughts, feelings i've never felt. I ran my fingers through my hair and leaned back in the chair. Did the Taylor's coming set something off? "Weird" I said to myself as i looked about the room, and saw my father staring at me.

"So the watch was eventful was it?" He asked, a smile smile broke at the corner of his mouth as he walked over and took a seat.

I watched as he casually sat next to me. "Do you know someone named of James Taylor?" I asked,

Benjamin tilted his head thoughtfully and nodded. "Yes, James Taylor was a member of the other tribe, we were boy's together before he was shipped off, only coming back every couple of years to check on the state of things"

"So you knew of them? Did you know they were coming back? I mean what does this all mean bringing two unshifted werewolves here?" I wasn't afraid to load the questions on my father. I groaned and planted my feet on the floor. 'Why is this all new to us and you don't seem to batt and eye"

Benjamin was taking small enjoyment from my aggravated attitude, I could see it in his eyes. "You do know how to get riled up, and to answer your questions, no, i did not know they were coming back, I do not know James intentions on bringing them here, this is new to me as it is to you, but I trust James and you all need to learn to trust him to" he stated, getting up from his chair. "We are going over to the Taylor's tomorrow, so get some rest, i got a meeting with James whose wife has invited us over, so go" he looked at me, and in his eyes were a mear warning to do as he said.

I sighed deeply and grumbled, standing up from my chair. "I hope you know what you're doing" I said as i walked past him, our eyes locking as i recited to my room. I flopped on my bed. My mind still occupied by the thought of Alexei as I lulled myself to sleep.
