Chapter 10

                                                                                                                 Escape Plan

Lanie was at home eating her dinner and thinking about everything, and that she knows all about Lester which pretty much confirmed her suspicions she knew she was in mortal danger, she never could figure why Lester kept her around for the past twenty-eight years other than to be the soul money maker, her paychecks went to him and groceries she barely had anything for herself all her hard work at the boutique and nothing to show for it. She always hated Lester but now she hates him more now than ever, I guess she can’t complain he hasn’t harmed her in any way but they're stopping him now though and that she knows she’ll be a threat and he can end her life in a blink of an eye. Lanie thinks to herself, “so in two weeks Lester is robbing the bank which means he won’t be home all day. It's my perfect opportunity to escape and be free of this monster who held me captive for a long twenty-eight years. My guess is he won’t be home all that week, and that day I sneak out and be out of here forever and I’ll stay with Jackson till I figure out what to do next. She decided to keep her plans under wraps and tell no one. She tried to focus on finding her sister she pulled the number for The Rossetti’s and dialed, “hello Rossetti Residence how can I help you, friendly female voice answered the phone, yes hi this Lacie Green and I’m looking for information on the whereabouts of my sister Laurel Rossetti, are they around by any chance? Lanie hangs up and dials the number, it rings and rings, Lila picks up and says hello, “Mrs. Rossetti this Lanie you don’t know me but I’m Lanie I’m Laurel’s twin sister, Lila gasps oh my goodness child I know who you are Laurel told me everything that happened to your sweet poor girl, are you okay do you need help, Lila asked? Don’t worry sis she promised, soon I’m busting out and I’m going to find you, she stated. Where are you Laurel, where did you go after your divorce Lanie asks? I’m here in Tuscany at Gram ‘s house. I've only been here for less than a month now, Laurel answers. How is it out there? Laurel I have to go now, I have you too long, it was wonderful talking with you and I promise you I’ll again soon. Lanie, please feel free to call me anytime, and be careful not to put yourself in a dangerous situation. I love you if I lose you again, I’ll be crushed. Don’t worry Laurel I’m safe I have friends watching over me. Bye my sweet sister we’ll talk again soon, love you.” Lanie hung her phone, and Laurel hung and cried on her mom. Lila consoled her daughter, “baby girl it’s okay you finally found your sister and were going to get her back somehow I promise you sweetie. Laurel sniffled and tried her tears with her tissue. Thank you mom I knew I could count on you, Laurel said graciously. You’re welcome love, I have friends at the Boone Police Department who can help, all I have to do is make a few calls.” Lanie spent the rest of her day feeling happy she finally found her sister, and she had a plan to get out of this house but now she had to figure out how to get out of Boone and away from Lester. She had to Jackson as soon as possible. She spent her night listening to her favorite country station and cleaning the house, and packing her bags and hiding it from Lester. She was counting the weeks and days until she was out forever! Lanie was dusting when a loud knock at the door scared her. “I’m coming,'' she yelled. She walked over to the door to see her . It was Officer Daphne, hi LaCie how are you? I’m good, how are you? I’m tired but good, the officer answered, I came to check on you. I’m good at cleaning because I’m bored. I need your help with something Officer, sure what’s that do you need to escort somewhere tonight? Oh, no not all, I’m dying to leave this place forever I just need you escort me to Jackson’s till this whole mess blows over, you see I’ve been here for twenty- eight long years and I can’t be here anymore, I can’t Laci Green anymore it’s not me, I need to be Lanie and be me. Oh, I understand, I’m here to help no matter what you need I got your back, the officer answered. Thank you, Lacie said.” Would you like to come in for some coffee or iced tea, officer? I would love to but I’m duty and can’t risk it, another time thanks. Bye now. Lanie watched the officer leave and go back to her house, Lanie shut the door and locked it. Lanie watched some TV and went to bed, feeling happy and thinking of Jackson.
