Chapter 8

                                                                                                              Jackson

Lacey was up early cooking breakfast for her father when he came in grumpy and mumbling to himself, Lacey greets him with a hug which always puts him in a better mood, “morning Daddy ahh… yes, morning Lacey is breakfast almost done he says placing his hand on her arm.
’’ She pulled the eggs and bacon off the stove and popped down the toast and turned the knob to light just the way he likes it, she poured him a black cup of coffee extra strong no milk and sugar, she placed in front of him, thank you dear, he said acknowledging her, you’re welcome father, she said graciously.” Are you going to work today Daddy Lacy asked as pulled the toast out of the toaster, you never did tell me what you do? She asked the question carefully hoping it didn’t anger him, she really didn’t want to get hit again. Since you're older now Lacey I can tell you what I do, I’m a contractor, oh you must get to see nice houses and work them she answered politely. Yes, you can say that dear he countered. She handed him his breakfast. She wasn’t really hungry at all, so she went to her room to get ready for work. She walked into her room thinking about her father’s job and if that’s what he really did for a living or if it was cover for what he really does. Lacey jumped in the shower trying to forget about her father and think about Jackson instead. She thought about his hair, his eyes, his damn sexy abs, and how hot his butt looked in a pair of tight jeans. This put a smile on her face and all she could think about after that was how she was going to make Jackson hers, she had a huge crush on him, and she tried hard to be subtle about it, the worst of it is Jackson is starting to notice her too. She tried hard to distract herself by keeping busy. It was too hard to pull her eyes away from him, it was like he was drawing her in somehow. It was hard to think or let alone function around Jackson; she seemed nervous, flustered, and a total klutz. Jackson was always there to help her up and was a total gentleman about it and always looked at her with concerning eyes. Jackson came from a reputable, well known, rich family that owned their own fashion empire local, international, and they just launched their online website. Jackson had long brown hair, and green eyes. He was tall, he was a true country cowboy, through and through, he was muscular, and had a six-pack. She knew Jackson was well off, but money and fame didn’t matter to her, she knew how he was on the inside as well as outside that she'd fallen for him. Jackson knew very little about his employee Lacey Green, and she was a hard worker and had a passion for fashion, he barely knew about her personal life, he knows where she’s from, where she lives, but that’s it she doesn’t talk about her personal life. She is a loyal employee, honest, and trustworthy. He wanted to know more about this woman he was falling for, so he decided to do a little digging of his own. He goes into his office and goes on his laptop and looks for missing girls and a bunch of articles from the police department come up, he clicks on one of the links, the article said this, “A girl at the age of four disappears out of her yard, neighbor claimed to have seen a short, fat, bald man dragging a little girl that fit the description of Lanie. The neighbor claimed to have seen the license plate and gave to the police ran the plate, and they a man fitting the same description whose on the most wanted list for kidnapping and robbery, he was part of a gang called The Hardee Boys, they known to be rough, mean, and downright cruel and always heists together and Lester Green was the mastermind of the group, the police went looking for him and The Hardee Boys and found them just to have them escape every single time. The kidnapper held a ransom for Lanie’s release of about a million dollars but Lanie’s parents couldn’t afford a ransom like that, so the kidnapper threatened to kill Lanie. The police are offering an award of ten thousand dollars for any knowledge regarding the case or whereabouts of Lanie and the kidnapper and to call the police department right away. Lanie’s name may have been changed to hide where she is she may be going by the name of Lacey Green,” Jackson sat at his looking dumbfounded, he believe what he just read, omg poor Lacey her poor family, this was utterly shocking to find this out, he thought to himself as he closed his laptop and laid his head on his desk. Poor Lacey, she has no idea her biological parents are dead and where her twin sister is, this is going to be heartbreaking news. He decided to bite the bullet and talk to Lacey about this she had to know, “she needs to know and I’m going to tell her no matter how hard it is or how much she might hate me for it, he said as he called Lacey into his office.” “Lacey may please see you in my office. There is something we need to discuss, and it can’t wait, yes Jackson let me finish up with my customer and I’ll be right there, okay thank you Lacey, Jackson yelled back. Thank you for shopping at Le Chique Boutique please come again, the customer handed Lacey her credit card and Lacey ran through the credit card reader and handed the customer her receipt and she signed and left.” Lacey slowly walks back to Jackson’ office feeling nervous and sick, she knocks on the door, comes in, Lacey won’t have a seat, Lacey down looking at her feet. So, you’re probably wondering why I called you in here first of I just want to say what an amazing job you’re doing here Lacey I couldn’t asked for a better employee, and second, I have some news that you’re not going to like and it’s a bit harsh and I wanted to come from me then from anyone else. I know about you Lacey, I know what happened to you I know that you were kidnapped years ago when you four and held for ransom, and I know your real name isn’t Lacey Green and it’s just an alias your kidnapper Lester Green made for you, I know your real name is Lanie and you’re from Millers Creek, North Carolina. Lacey looked scared and confused, and was tearing up, I have more to tell you I’m so very sorry I have to be the one to tell you this your parents died in tragic car accident the night they went looking for you, some eighteen wheeler lost control of his truck and hit them by accident. Lanie was hysterical, Jackson handed her a tissue box from his desk, thank you she managed to mumble, Lester Green is on the most wanted list for kidnapping and robbery and he is part of some gang called The Hardee Boys. I believe this man to be very dangerous and his gang is even meaner, which means you’re in danger.” After Jackson was done Lacey was in shock, is my job in jeopardy? Are you going to fire me for this or even send me to jail? Lanie, listen to me, you are an amazing employee, you are sweet, kind, courteous and the customers love you, you are the reason why they keep coming back, and no I’m going to fire you, I’m going to protect, and I do whatever it takes. I have another confession to make, I have liked you ever since you started working here, I have had a huge crush on you. Lanie smiles, really, she asks? I like you too Jackson. I have had a crush on you as well. Thank you for telling me everything. I know it was hard for you. I appreciate your honesty. No one has ever been honest with me the way you have, especially Lester. You’re welcome answers, what do we do about Lester, well he answers her, keep doing what you’re doing and don’t let on that you know anything at least not yet, not till I come with a plan and figure some things out, don’t worry doll I keep you in the loop. “He stands up and walks to Lanie, grabs her by the waist and pulls her in for a long passionate kiss. She stands there kissing the man of her dreams and it was amazing, his lips were soft, and sweet, yet salty, his kiss was soft and gentle and full of passion, it chills down her spine and makes her yearn for more. She always scared of Jackson finding out about her and what happened, and she’d lose everything and have nothing instead he embraced her with open arms, and he sensitive to her situation, he cared he genuinely cared for her and her safety no one has ever done, she stood there kissing this handsome man thinking man am I blessed. The kiss lasted for several minutes and Lanie and Jackson were still hugging they didn’t want to pull apart, and Jackson didn’t want to let her go especially after dropping that huge nasty bomb on her he felt responsible, just as pulls apart from Lanie he looks at her with his green eyes he I promise to keep you safe Lanie no matter what, she looked at him with understanding eyes and for once she put her trust in somebody, she said I know you will Jackson.
