Love without LOGIC

Chapter 1

A man, in his late twenties, tanned skin; look up before revealing his emerald green eyes. He was walking down the hallway, of a Wall Street office building, while wearing a dark-colored three-piece suit and tie. He turns his head away, upon arriving at the angle of the camera, before taking the next hallway. He then arrives in front of a door, before entering the room. In the dark office, he sat down on the chair, before looking out to the window, overlooking the City of New York. He turned back to the desk, where he saw a family picture, with his target carrying a young boy. The target’s wife was standing beside him while smiling widely at the camera in front of them. He checked his watch, before hearing the doorknob turning.

The assassin smoothly got to his feet, before walking casually to the door. As soon as the target closed the door and opened the lights, his assailant blew some white dust, also known as scopolamine, on his face, causing him to feel dazed. The assassin walked around the room, grabbing the chair from in front of the desk, before placing it in the middle of the room. He checked the foundation on the ceiling, before giving a nod. He went back to the dazed target, before removing his belt and his tie. He tied the belt together, with the tie, before tying it up on the foundation. He placed the man on top of the chair, before wrapping the belt around his neck. The well-suited man placed his hand in his pocket while watching the drugged target. Staring at his victim with remorseless eyes, he kicked the chair from under the man’s feet.

Leaving the building, undetected and unnoticed, David Addams, also known as the Nighthowler Assassin, disappeared through the streetwalkers in the City of New York. Appearing in an empty alleyway, David felt an unusual movement behind him. Before the figure could even come near him, he jumped over to the dumpster, before grabbing the ladder from above him. He then flipped over towards the wall, before successfully jumping on top of the building next to him. David looked down from the ledge, before seeing a man looking up to him from the ground. He stared at the shadowed figure, before walking away.

David was walking in the middle of the rooftop, when he heard someone jump from above, before landing right in from of him. It was a man, half-Asian from his ethnicity, tall, slightly tanned, and with black hair. The man made no sudden movements, as he gave a soft look. “Are you the Nighthowler?” he asked. David raised an eyebrow, tilting his head, as he could now see the face of his stalker. “Listen to me. I’m Michael Hawthorn…” The man slowly walked closer to him, before David heard guns clicking from afar. He took out his gun, pointing it straight to Michael. “Hey.” He raised his hands up. “I’m not here to hurt you.

“But they are.” David turned to the side, before shooting at the exhaust machines. Smoke covered the rooftop before other men started to shoot around them.

Michael took out his own guns, before shooting at the enemies, he then saw David disappear through the smoke before he ran after him. “Hey, wait!” he went through the smoke, where he saw David jumping from one rooftop to another. “You’ve got to be kidding me.” He sighed, before doing the same parkour.

Landing on the ground once more, David hid his gun, before he slowed his pace, placing his hands inside his pocket. Michael caught up with him before he stopped beside him. David grabbed Michael’s jacket, before dragging him to another alley. He slammed Michael to the wall, visibly annoyed. “What do you want?” he growled.

“I want to help you.” Michael raised his hands, before noticing a confused look on David’s face. “Those men, do you know who they are?

“No, but it became a routine that someone’s always out to kill me.” David released his grip from Michael’s coat. “So, if you’re one of them, best to get it over with.

“I was sent to take you in.” Michael started, before showing a tattoo from his arm. It was circular, with the word L.O.G.I.C. surrounding the outline of the tattoo, with a logo of a shield with angel wings, and swords. “I’m from L.O.G.I.C.; we’re a secret nongovernment agency that protects mankind.” David crossed his arms, growing impatient. “We’ve been watching you for a while now, and based on your streak, there are a lot of people out to get you.

“I didn’t notice.” David spats, with sarcasm.

“We can protect you,” Michael assured him. “You could be a valuable asset for us in the agency in the future.

David heard multiple footsteps running towards them. “Well, you’ll have no future if you stick around here.” He said, before running further deep into the alley. Michael sighed, before running after him.

The two of them scaled the side of the building, before hopping on the rooftop. David looked around, before running in a specific direction. Michael saw him, before following him out. However, bullets started to rain on them. David jumped to the other building before he took cover on the ledge. He then took a deep breath, before standing up, and shooting at the assailants, one by one, before they all went down to the ground. Michael saw two more assailants appearing before he shot them down. He then turned back to David, who was pointing a gun at him. Before Michael could react, David shot at him but took out the last assailant from behind the man. Michael whipped his head to the dead man, before turning back to David, who disappeared.

Michael jumped to the building, before looking around. He sighed, deeply, as he shook his head. He then heard movement from the other side of the building, before he turned and saw David, standing at the edge of the ledge. Michael slowly walked over to him, while David was looking down. They were at the pier of the city, looking over at the open sea. David glanced at Michael, who stopped, before placing his gun back in his holster.

“I just want to help you.” Michael raised his hands.

“And what makes you think I need your help?

“Because you were a victim too.” Michael slowly placed down his hands. “The name Nighthowler. It’s not just something you came up with.” David stared at the man. “You earned that name in a way that no man could live with.” He stated. “We want to help you and if you’ll let us, we can help you be better than what you think you were made to be.

“Like the other fools that tried to capture me, you only want what I have in my system.” David slowly turned to him, before giving a glare. “Pathetic.” He said, before letting himself fall from the ledge.

“Wait!” Michael tried to grab his coat, before he saw David land on the docks, before riding off on a motorboat. Michael sighed, in defeat, before taking out his phone. “Yeah, it’s me.” He watched as David disappeared from the foggy shore. “I lost him.
